Custom Figure: Early's-Captive Simon "Objects in Space"
Monday, April 30, 2007

I was chuffed when I saw the new DST figure for Giles. While it didn't look all that much like Giles, I realised it would be an excellent base for Simon from "Firefly/Serenity". I've never seen a good likeness in a custom Simon. My own from 3 years ago (using Spike) was very lame. I'm pleased with this one. I made Simon for the "Objects in Space" episode. I used a DST Giles head on a shirtless Angel body. I removed the pelvis and thighs and resculpted them from scratch, to get him into the right position. I then sculpted the jogging trousers. I reshaped his neck, shoulders and arms to suit the position. Then repainted his torso to look like Simon's. I removed the hair and sanded the chin. I sculpted the hair and painted his face to look like Simon. April 2007. Thanks to Diamond Select Toys for the parts. I donated this custom to the "Can't Stop the Serenity" event in Austin, Texas, on 23rd June. It will be auctioned for the Equality Now charity. http://austin.cantstoptheserenity.com/

I love this almost as much as I love the River custom made one. Good choice on the base figure! Well spotted!

I have to say you got the hair perfect. If you didn't know it was supposed to be Giles you'd never guess that it was repainted.

I think the greater kudos has to go to your River figure though. The amount of work you put into it is incredible!

Fantastic work as always, MsBigPileofDust! Definitely a closer representation of a character than I have seen for several major movie or TV characters in commercially-done toy lines;D
