Kaylee shifted on the couch in the lounge uncomfortably. She was so lost in her own thoughts she hadn’t heard the foot steps approaching. Looking up she saw Jayne towering a few feet away from her. She gave him a sad smile which caused him to frown down at her.

"Gotta bee in your panties?" Jayne asked, moving to take a seat on the couch next to her. Kaylee paused as she processed the words before turning a questioning glance at Jayne.

"Ain’t it supposed to be a bee in your bonnet?" she asked.

"Seems t’me a bee in your unders would be a hell of a lot more uncomfortable and since when do you wear a bonnet?" he asked, genuinely confused.

"Never mind," Kaylee said, shaking her head and staring towards the infirmary. Simon was talking with River again. The girl seemed to be doing better. While Kaylee and Simon had been getting all cozy on the couch earlier, River had about screamed bloody murder until Simon came running. It was probably nightmares or some such, but Kaylee couldn’t help but be a bit frustrated. Her and Simon had been so close to kissing, she was sure of it.

"What’d the doc do this time?" Jayne asked, a low growl in his throat.

"Don’t Jayne," Kaylee shook her head.

"Don’t know why you throw yourself after him like you do. Man knows when a woman is willin’, shouldn’t take so much pushing to get him in bed."

"Simon ain’t sly," Kaylee scolded gently, knowing where he was leading the conversation.

"Sure he ain’t, Kaylee girl, sure he ain’t," Jayne chuckled. Kaylee turned her head to look at Jayne. Everytime her and Simon where having an off moment, Jayne seemed to be right there with words to say about the whole thing. Man didn’t talk much but he had a whole mouthful when it came to Simon. Made a gal wonder.

"He ain’t," she said firmly. Jayne just glared at her for a moment then looked over at the infirmary window. Kaylee leaned her head against the couch cushion, her eyes following up the length of Jayne’s bare arm. She’d never notice just how firm and muscular it was. He tensed for a moment, his muscle rippling as they did. Kaylee had to force her eyes away before her thoughts got away from her.

"What you need is some good sexin’ from a man, Kaylee. Get that Doc outta your head ‘cause I can tell ya right now, he ain’t interested in you," Jayne said, his head turning to the side to look at her. Kaylee swallowed when she realized the first ‘man’ she thought should be sexing her was the man sitting right next to her.

"Jayne?"

"Huh?"

"You ain’t jealous of Simon, are you?" she asked. Kaylee wasn’t a hundred percent certain she knew where she was taking this conversation but the words had tumbled out of her mouth before she could stop them.

"Jealous? Of Simon?" Jayne asked, a small sneer forming on his face at the thought. Kaylee frowned and stood up, throwing her arms in the air. Men could be confounding creatures. "What?" Jayne asked.

"Nothing, might as well have someone lock me ‘round the knees, ain’t anyway I’m gettin’ sexed anytime soon," she snapped, moving of towards her bunk. Jayne jumped up and followed her, grabbing her arm before she could leave the lounge.

"What? Gorram crazy women, what are you talkin’ ‘bout?" Jayne asked incredulously.

"I don’t get you Jayne Cobb. Everytime Simon comes and talks to me or is nice t’me you got some mean words t’say or some snide remark. Thought maybe it was ‘cause you were jealous a bit, but if that ain’t the case then you’re just plain mean and ain’t no man on this whole boat is looking for any kind of love from me."

"Aw hell Kaylee, you’re pretty ‘nough, but you’re like a little sister t’me," Jayne said reluctantly. Seeing her eyes water over, he was doing his best to avoid water works.

"Then why’re you always mean t’Simon?" Kaylee asked, blinking rapidly to keep her tears at bay. Jayne hesitated and Kaylee didn’t know how to take that. "Well?" she pressed.

"Well uh…" Jayne trailed off.

Kaylee raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms over his chest. "Well uh what?"

"Kaylee," Jayne begged.

"Are you just bein’ mean t’be mean Jayne?" she asked, shaking her head.

"No," Jayne said defensively.

"Then why?"

"’Cause I like Simon," Jayne blurted out. Kaylee froze, her eyes going wide. It was a full minute before she could process what he had just said.

"You like…?"

"Yeah I like Simon, ha ha, very funny. You don’t tell a gorram soul ‘bout this Kaylee or I swear to Buddha or I tell everyone ‘bout that funny pink toy I found it your bunk a couple weeks ago," Jayne threatened. If possible, Kaylee’s eyes went wider and she looked around quickly before letting her eyes fall back on Jayne.

"That ain’t funny, Jayne! And when the hell were you in my bunk?" she growled.

"I was lookin’ for a tool thing Mal needed. Wasn’t aimin’ for it to be funny neither, I'm ruttin' serious. How’s that pink thing work anyhow?" he asked, genuinely curious. Kaylee wasn’t having it and she reached out, punching Jayne in the shoulder. He didn’t even flinch at her small fist.

"Shut up, Jayne. All my tools are in the engine room and you know that," she whispered harshly, suddenly very aware of how close Simon was. All that separated them was a door and some glass. Jayne just shrugged making Kaylee roll her eyes.

"You keep quiet an’ so will I," Jayne said, his voice deadly serious.

"Fine," Kaylee agreed, huffing a little and looking back at Simon. She turned and watched as Jayne’s eyes followed Simon as well. "But I still say Simon ain’t sly and I ain’t backin’ off," she said firmly.

"That’s alright, Kaylee," Jayne grinned deviously, "I have a good feeling about this one." The two of them looked at each other before both looking back at Simon. Suddenly Kaylee realized she was gonna need something a lot nicer than her coveralls if she was gonna get the doc.

It's a crack fic my friend. Trust me, I'm the *last* person to think the hero of canton is sly. *giggles* But when the idea popped into my head, it was too funny not to write.

Ya know what? Jayne could be omnisexual for all I care...the man's a walking tank and could kick my ass all the way back to Earth;)

Still wanna see how this game gets going and how Simon reacts to a 2-on-1 flirt fest from the PR man and mechanic:D
