Browncoat Loss: My Dad
Monday, October 24, 2016

Ni hao, everyone,

I know I haven't been around as much as back in the day, but this place is still my online home as far as I'm concerned and, as my Caption Tightpants players know, real life has gotten in the way often. My dad, John Sr., has been ill for quite some time, and he passed away early yesterday morning, 10.23.16.

Now I know many of you know I am an avid Browncoat, did everything in my power to get the word out back in the day, which included (after much Serenity Valley level of motivating) getting him to give it a chance. He finally watched it, and marathoned it in two days, and decided Jayne was his favorite. He was always supportive of my Browncoat efforts (and shenanigans). He loved the show, and loved my love of it. Just one of the many things he and I shared in life.

He was a Sailor & a Veteran (US Navy), a father, a grandfather, a husband, a friend, a son, a brother, and one of the hardest working people I've ever known. He also gave me me love of science fiction, technology, sports and, while not his intent(I don't think it was anyway), he did teach me to challenge authority. ;)

I'm going to miss him. Typing this is helping me cope a bit. If you're the praying type, say a silent prayer for him, if not, just spend a moment in silence for him. My sister and I will carry him just a little bit further...

Thank you,

John Jr.(bka TCM)

Hi TCM

I've returned to say I hope the grief has eased a bit. We all grieve in our own time, and our own way. I hope your path is brief, I hope your sister is finding life a little brighter.

Thank you for inquiring, Mark. I'm doing ok. Been keeping myself busy, and encouraging myself to go out an be social. The last thing my dad would want is for me to sit and dwell and be unhappy. I miss him a lot, that's never going to change. My sister has it rougher than I do. She lived with him a lot longer than I did and was the one who handled all his medical stuff.

One thing I did was I made memorial shadow boxes for my kids and I using his American Legion/USN hats and pins/patches. This kept me busy and I feel will help keep him in our memories for years to come. I also fly his American flag out front of the house. It was from him I developed my sense of Patriotism and gratitude for Veterans.

Again, thank you for checking up on me. Means more than you know. I've always said that Browncoats are my family and you prove it again here.

Stay Shiny!

Sincerest condolences. I know what you're going through right now, but just remembering your dad and cherishing the times you had together will be with you always. My father passed away over 15 years ago, just a week or so before 9/11, so you can imagine the funk I'm in around that time every year since.
