Speaking as new author--
My business is free-lance and sometimes I am busy and at other times not so much. I've been writing my stories since September, and only got up the gumption to begin posting in May, so there's quite a back-log of stories. At first, it was just because I wasn't writing with the intention of posting anything, I was just writing because I couldn't bear to leave Firefly hanging where it was when it was cut off. Once I decided I might post them someday, it was a deliberate decision to give myself some "lead time". That way, if I hit a dry spell writing or if I got too busy with my business, I'd have some stories waiting to keep up more-or-less regular posts for a while. Also, the lead time gives me a chance to go back to earlier stories and insert foreshadowing or tighten up the prose.

New authors, and also seasonal (lots of peeps are teachers or students).

Summer is a good time for the ficcing and the community.
