I do not like weddings.

When my sister got married, the last thing I said to her before heading down the aisle was "You can still run!" Mostly because I thought she was marrying a shiftless, worthless douchecanoe (I was totally right, btw, and thankfully she has started to realize it.) but also because as stated before, I do NOT like weddings. I spent the entire ceremony faking a smile and counting down the minutes until I could get out of the four and a half inch heels Bridezilla forced me into (because I was much shorter than the other bridesmaids and she didn't want me to look "stupid" in the pictures).

IF I ever get married (and that's a big "if," I feel like if I love a guy enough and we want to spend our lives together, getting married is more or less a formality) I will elope, because I have no interest in alienating my friends, bankrupting my parents and gathering my entire family in one place (an episode of Cops in the making).

So what's my point here? Well, I'm working on my fic "Out of the Frying Pan" again, which I left off just before Simon and Kaylee's wedding. Annnnnd I'm skipping over the wedding. Yeah, turns out in addition to not liking weddings I also can't write them.

So turn it into a plot point. Maybe someone in Kaylee's extended family is bitchy and finds it improper that she eloped.

In fact, if you had a richer side of Kaylee's family, and Kaylee is from the poorer side that the rich side always looks down on, that might actually explain a lot.

Not a bad idea, Bytemite. Although the way I left it, the trip back to Kaylee's home world for the wedding had to be delayed and she and Simon decided to elope while the ship was on Persephone...

MINCINGBEAST

Betcha if you wrote from the POV of someone who hates weddings, you could pull it off.

Haha, oh, that's excellent. You know what you could do? Take out all your frustrations and dislikes about weddings and put it into the story with Simon and Kaylee's special event goes horribly, hilariously wrong. Where Kaylee has some parts of her family that just don't get along, and well, yeah. Eventually, the crew just gets the hell out of Dodge before the Feds show up.

Then at the end, subvert the whole thing and have it that Kaylee doesn't mind her wedding was ruined, she's just glad nobody got shot! It's a complete success in her mind!
