Psuedo-FF ref on KCAA 1050 AM radio show
Tuesday, September 22, 2009

So this is how it is...

The Imam (minister) of the mosque I attend in Chino, CA (http://www.TheChinoMosque.org)
has been doing a weekly 10-min. segment called "Understanding Islam"
which airs every Tuesday at 9:30am as part of the Dennis Baxter Show on KCAA 1050 AM.

My part in all this is as a writer for the segments -- I have been scripting copy
for Dennis Baxter to read as the Interviewer, as well as writing "talking points" for my Imam.

Now, back in June, I was able to set up an interview segment to promo the Serenity
screenings for Equality Now, and Dennis Baxter interviewed James from SoCal Browncoats
on the fundraising drive, so Dennis got a taste of what Firefly and Browncoats are all about,
although I doubt he's ever seen an episode...

So there I am writing Dennis' opening remarks and sample questions,
and so I wrote a tiny reference
from FF's "The Train Job" which will air on Oct. 6 a little after 9:30am.

The ref is inlaid into a statement about the fact that over the years,
we have received hundreds and hundreds of questions about Islam, so I phrase it as:
"...Over all these years, you must have collected just an acre of questions about Islam..."
And Dennis pretty much read it straight, only substituting the word "just" with "practically".

So what's next? Thinking up ways to incorporate more refs from the greatest show ever.

If anyone wants to hear the segments, they can go to
http://www.KCAAradio.com and click on "Podcast"
for the Dennis Baxter show, then download
the shows on Tuesdays starting from Sept. 8.
The show with James from SoCal Browncoats was
(I think) on June 22, 2009. It was a day before
the Riverside Serenity screening if I remember.

If you go to the website http://www.KCAAradio.com on Tuesdays at 9:30am
and click on KCAA TV you will see me and my Imam in
the studio via the webcam that shows the guests being interviewed
on the Dennis Baxter show.
But the shows in October will all be pre-recorded because Dennis is running for
re-election for city council so he can't be
on the air a month before the election day.

If I get the chance to be a talking guest on "Understanding Islam" I can
have more opportunities to slip in more FF refs.

P.S. I'm still workin' at our Islamic Info booth at the L.A. County Fair in Pomona
in Building 9, booth #9119 until Oct. 4.

Park in Lot 9 (The Blue Gate: 9) off White Ave. That way, when you enter the Fair,
building 9 will be the first building you come to on your left. We are in aisle 9100.
