Hooray for Updates!

Hello again!

Two chapters of "Still Flying" are currently up, and I hope to have the third chapter edited and up within the next week or so. (It's my nit-picky mind that keeps updates more-or-less sporadic.) Thank you to everyone who reviews. :D

Chapter 2 features two characters I created: Kyle and Lyle Mendel. (Pronounced MEN-DELL, BTW.) I kind of love the two of them and I'm sure that I'll keep them around in future stories. Another character that is coming up is quite possibly one my favorite things about "Still Flying." I won't go into too much detail, but suffice to say that she's loads of fun. ;)

In other news, I saw the new Star Trek movie, and I kind of fell in love with it.

I pretty much loved everything about it. I figured that it would be good, but I had no idea just how good it would be.

I've been watching Star Trek for as long as I can remember having a tv in my bedroom. I used to watch ST: DS9 (with Benjamin Fucking Sisco) late at night, and then when the network switched it with ST: TNG, I watched that show instead. I'm a huge fan of TNG, and DS9 to a lesser extent. (I pretty much ignore all things Voyager.) I've never really seen the original series, though I do know some of the history and most of the crew members' names.

I've seen some griping about ST: 2009 from the 'hardcore' Trekkies, but what I've noticed is that even people who've never seen ST (any incarnation) or who have never wanted to see ST, have enjoyed the movie. That's gotta mean they're doing something right.

I loved the various shout-outs to ST fans: Kirk and the Green Chick (Gaila), Scotty's Tribble-in-a-cage, the Red Shirt that Dies, Bone's 'Dammit ______! I'm a surgeon, not a ______!' Those just really kinda made the movie a little extra special for me.

As far as the storyline went, I loved it. Time-Space Continuity Issues are nothing new to ST and I thought it was played out in an intelligent manner. I really liked how the focus wasn't just on Kirk, that each of the crew members had a significant part to play. And words will never be able to express how glad I am that Kirk DIDN'T get Uhura. I know some are offended that Uhura even HAS a love interest (something about it making her weaker or defeating the entire point of her character), but I thought it was alright, seeing that she had quite a bit to do in the story and that I feel that the romance thing didn't overshadow hers or Spock's characters or the story. (And I totally ship it. I'm a shipper by nature; I've come to accept that about myself.)

I could go on, but I won't.

In short, I loved it. I'm going to go back and see it again. When it comes out on DVD, that sucker is MINE.

Aw, don't worry about being sporadic, so long as you're producing. No one should have anything to complain about in that case. Though people probably shouldn't complain if a fanfic writer can't produce on a regular schedule. Most of us here are amateurs and not making money off of these, it's just how we entertain ourselves and the folks who read 'em.
