A merc down on his luck.
Wednesday, September 22, 2004

Why is it so hard for an honest merc to find decent work these days? I'm good at a lot of stuff, and what I don't know I learn fast. And yet, no one wants to hire a smart guy with the experience and drive needed to get the job done. I guess they're afraid they'd have to pay me more than crappo if they hired me.

Anyone out there got any job leads in the Charlotte or G'boro/Winston-Salem areas of North Carolina?

And I looked into the private military contractor stuff, which would be cool, but they all require previous military experience. What the heck. I guess there's no such thing as an entry-level merc anymore.

my mom is/was a career councilor and here are her 2 main pieces of advice:

1. apply for any job you see that you'd like to have (or could stand doing), and give them an honest resume. they might hire you even though you don't seem to fit the bill initially. even if you don't fit the bill at all.

2. apply for any job you DON'T see that you'd like to have (or could stand doing). go to interesting places, tell them you're looking for a job, give them a resume to keep on file. lots of people are looking to hire even when they're not looking to hire.

hope those help some how. it'll be an arduous jouney no matter what, though. especially in the current climate.
