Feel the Fear, and Read Us Anyway
Tuesday, June 17, 2008

C'mon, guys, we're putting a lot of time and effort into our fic, and no-one much is reviewing. (Big shout out to Angellemarcs, StinkingRose and KimBer, who have!)

There's good stuff in there. A crazy old coot, strange and spooksome happenings in deep space, Wash and his dinosaurs. Puns, guns and alliosaurs.

I think the idea is that we are trying to say something deep about the human condition, the nature of being etc. (Granted, I'll be happy if I can make someone snarf tea out their nose again, but then I'm the one wanted to call it 'Stairway to Haven'...)

Seriously, feedback is needed.

having read the chapters so far , i find the work interesting in its use of both vowels AND consonants... often in the same word!

CF said it well. The work will speak for itself and no amount of begging will force readers to leave a comment. If someone reads a story and doesn't leave a comment, perhaps they weren't moved enough by the words to do so?

Spaceangl - Didn't mean to suggest that all I could have to say would be bad. :) But my feedback is honest, good and bad included. It's up to you whether you really want to expose yourself to that!

(BTW: I'm traveling now - limited computer time and access. I'll check in tomorrow.)

COSMICFUGITIVE

All I'll say is that it is really, really hard to fight enforced apathy, and I've tried to adapt through various means. My own contributions have always kinda been underground here.

I've never tooted my own horn and made out that I'm great, but cajoling or asking nicely for people's thoughts has no real effect - even with those I've known here for 3/4 years..

I'm not an attention seeker, but I feel that the second you start actively asking for people's thoughts, then you're instantly branded as one.. No matter if you're work might be any good, or if you're actually contributing to the site in a constructive, fun way.

As mentioned above, my creative work has always been underground. (Pencil work, photography and fan fic.) Lack of crit makes one dispondent in contributing anything of a creative nature over time.

Most folk, in chat conversation, aren't aware that I've contributed.

I've seen a lot of really great artists leave in the past, and move onto more receptive communities. (Like DeviantART and even Fanfic.net.)

I don't have an answer for the apathy. Although, it kinda smacks of mass depression. Ridiculously high standards are key to the depressive state.

I love to give lengthy, meaningful feedback to people. I've perhaps been a bit lazy my ownself.. Yet, I feel that if I give a crit, then others feel they can't add anything because its already been covered. Believe me, I've experience that on other sites.

Maybe others feel the same way 'bout comments that someone else has already made. I dunno.. It's a really silly attitude though.

Don't get me wrong.. There are some nice people here. I've really appreciated the words of AngelleMarcs and even BlueEyedBrigadier in the past. They are appreciative and engaging people. There were a lot more sane people like them 4/5 years ago on this site.

The Blue Sun Room used to be a cornicopia of activity - people of different skill levels shared stuff. These days, it's going through a lull, and it feels hard to satisfy anyone's tastes. One day, it'll correct itself.

Anywho.. **Deep breathe.**

The best, and really hard thing to do is to keep on posting and contributing. Let the work speak for itself, and someone out there, with good sense, will show their valued appreciation.

Sorry, SpaceAnJL, I will get around to reading and commenting. You posted them so fast and I couldn't keep up with all the new fic that was going around. Coming from you I'm sure it's snarky and funny and witty.
