I've been hibernating. It's the only explanation.

But I'm back. And I just found some of my work being critiqued elsewhere on the Net. Weird to read about yourself in the third person. I've been getting up a few noses with my interpretations of character, 'Verse etc. Seems folks would like everything to stay just the same as it was when Joss signed off.

Tough.

This is my 'Verse now. Finders Keepers. I won't piss in your sandbox, you don't piss in mine. And if you open a door into the AnJLverse, you have only yourself to blame.

Anyhow, I've been dusting off some old writing in the Real World, and tidying it up for the Crime Writer's Association Debut Dagger, hence the hiatus. But the deadline is next week. After that, I may sidle back into the BSR. After all, now I've read the criticism, I know what I'm doing to annoy people.

So I'm going to do it some more. With bells on.

I've missed this place. In fact, I think I'm going to settle down for the evening and watch myself a few good episodes of 'FF'. Get back into the vibe. I've been reading all sorts of new stuff to put into the mix. And I'm getting the 'Northwest Smith' book soon. Maybe it's time to take a break from occult-influenced murder in a world of my own devising and come back to play in this one.

People read a lot of different things for a lot of different reasons. Some are pickier than others. Some comment on everything, some comment on little. Some take to heart criticism and try to better their writing because of it. Some ignore it and continue to do what they want.

It's your writing. You'll do what you want. Some will read, many more will not.

But when you post in a public forum, you are asking (some even beg!) for comments on your work. You can't expect them all to be favorable. They won't be. And you'll just have to deal with that. Sometimes, there are gems of goodness that come with a harsh critique - if you're not too stubborn to see them.

Nice to know I'm not the only BSR luminary - in the opinions of others, mind you ;D - who decided to hibernated for a while, leaving fans clamouring for more brilliance, SpaceAnJL :D

Ya know...never really understood the issue where people get all uppity about fanfic authors tweaking things. Joss is A-OK with us playing in his personal sandbox long as we don't get all delusional about it's canonical validity, so it's not like we're doing something against the IP holder's wishes. Well, if one gets legal technical, 20th Century Fox Studios/Universal Studios/CW Network could get unhappy, but the true creator ain't ;D
