What's the deal?
Thursday, January 10, 2008

OK, so I don't usually feel the need to write a blog, as you can tell by the total absence of one here. But there's something bugging me a little bit. Ever since the evil hacker dude took all the shiny fics away, I've been noticing something. Maybe it's just my perception, but it seems to me that folks aren't commenting on the really good fics here like they used to.

What's the deal with that? And no, I'm not talking about my paltry little re-posts, though a word or two might have been nice on them. I'm talking about the new stuff, the continuing storylines, the stuff that the writers have apparently put their hearts and souls into.

I'm not the greatest at commenting myself, but I'm noticing that even folks that used to comment all the time on the same stories I'm following are not showing up. And the number of hits to some of the stories are dishearteningly low too.

Is everybody losing interest, or what? Inquiring minds want to know! This site used to be the haven for Firefly writers who wanted honest feedback, but somehow that seems to have changed. I hate to think some evil hacker person has taken that away from all of us. What a shame that would be!

I'm guilty of those pesky real life commitments as well, as can be noticed by my long periods of absence. But I try to read as much as possible and comment when I really like something or have constructive criticism. Believe me, I've noticed all this too, and like the others, I thought it was just me and people were getting bored with my writing.

If you look back at how many times something gets read, even the stuff that's been here for a year picks up a considerable readership eventually. People come and go with time availability and real life commitments, but eventually they come back, because the 'verse gets in their blood. Patience is a virtue most times.

With nothing much new on the horizon for Firefly, I'm sure other current running series have taken some of the readers/commenters to their fandoms.

I've noticed the same thing. It's like a whole slew of people left the site or have been too busy with their lives to make any comments. I did have a few comments for some of the images I've put up, even a reposted one recently, but my newer writings have failed to attract hardly any comments.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. But I figured with my stories, maybe folks are just tired of reading them! :-)
