What's with us?
Wednesday, August 15, 2007

OK guys what is going on? Why are so many feeling the need to leave? I love you all and I'm not sure why we're scratching at each other, but I do knwo nothing can be fixed by people leaving. If you have a problem, say something. If it doesn't stop, avoid that person or ignore. Just because someone posts doesn't mean you have to read or care. So what if someone else says something you think is offensive, stupid, cruel, inapropriate, or just plain mean...come on Serenity would be empty a hundred times over if someone left every time Jayne said something awful...they just chalk it up to Jayne being Jayne. They don't agree with it and sometimes it makes them sick, mad, or frustrated that he thinks that way, but they don't leave...mostly they just ignore him ( and mock him in their thoughts and shared glances) So come on everyone...you don't have to like what someone says, just respect their right to say it...and invoke the Thumper rule...If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all...or at the very least don't run away from people you care about because of one you don't.
And that was as close to a sermon as I've ever gotten. I just hate to see tons of people leaving instead of dealing with it.

I forgot the strange collapse that simply erased some folks. Kinda wierd seeing ancient posts by people who are still around but under different accounts.
I actually like some of the relative freedom associated with this place. Another forum I belong is pretty much never censored and the mods very rarely flex their mod muscle.
But then again the sort on the other forum love to beat the crap out of eachother then drink beer before getting into practical discussion or posting poetry.

Been a more'n a year goin' on that I've been here, and I still feel no need to up and leave. Maybe a small time out... but, then again, I never really was all that active, so I don't 'xactly count...
Heh heh...

I've been here a fair amount of time, but I'm what I would consider an irregular poster. The reason being is I have a very full real life, an active sports life during the summer, work and family. These things tend to come first.

Now I'm not saying FFF is not important but... well you get my drift. I tend to stay away from the 'touchy' subjects. Ya I have my opinion but I know when people aren't open to differing opinions.

That said, I haven't seen, nor been exposed to, the kind of thing that would make me want to leave so I'm having trouble relating to the whole mass exodus thing.

There are many very talented and intelligent people on this site, too many in fact to turn my back on, and I'm proud to be a part of it.

If anyone has a problem with the particular crowd they are getting flak from, try a change of scenery within the site instaed of outside of it. I'm very open minded and easy to talk to, as are the majority of this site.

Hi. I've only been a member of this fan site for about 5 weeks and I love it! Perhaps in a year or so maybe I'll be burnt out or tired of it, but right now it feels great. I've never had such feeback on my writing at any other place and the few times I was in the chat room everyone was so nice. I'm hoping for a BDS but my life is not on hold till it does happen that's for sure and I won't jump off a bridge if it doess't. I'm grateful for want little of the 'verse we did get. Lots of TV shows get cancelled, movies don't get made, actors and writers and directors go on to do other stuff: its just the business. This place is a hobby for me, a nice distraction from other stuff, and nothing more. As for people who make rude comments, I've had a few throw my way, but they're easy to ignore. Most people here are very positive and nice, which is why I like it. Let's raise a glass to Joss, the actors, and crew who all made our lives a little more shiny, for however brief a time.

To mal4prez:September is when universal closes all hope of a sequal. The sequal also rides on sales of the CE. I dont know how well they want the CE to do, but I doubt they're going to sell many copies in a few measily weeks. I hate corperations.

As for me, I am a quiet individual. when I have somthing to say, I say it, but only then do I speek. Insted I prefer to watch, and listen. I have been here since febuary of '05 I believe, but haven't really made my presence known. I still visit the site on a regular basis, I just dont speak up much.

We're all frustrated. sometimes people just decide to walk away instead of haveing their hopes built up, and then their hearts hopes and dreams smashed against the rocks by smileing greedy executives. Our hope has been streched thin, and with Joss not nearly as actively persueing the BDS as he persued the BDM, our chances are next to nill. That being said, hope remains. But for some, it has been streched so thin that it has been broken. I have often stated in some of my much, much darker moods, that the death of hope is the beginning of tranquility: if there is no hope placed in somthing, there is no bitterness of dissipointment.

So out of this rambleing that goes in no specific direction, I suppose my point is this: People have lost hope that our BDS will ever arrive. Therefore they leave communities such as this one.

As for me, I will not let go. this is somthing too special for me to give up on, even after Joss himself tells me that there is no more.

I am contented to sit, watch, and listen, until more is unveiled.

September is make or break because that's when the actors' contracts for a sequel will expire. FOX broadcasting has no rights to anything but the episodes shot on their lot any longer. Joss asked for them the day the show was cancelled and he got them and he shopped them around for a year before he got a nibble from Universal for movies. Universal now owns the rights to make Serenityverse movies, up to three of them, and as long as they retain those rights, TV episodes will not be made in any way, shape, or form.
That is, at least, how I understand it.

NV I do think it's worth mentioning that when we had the site collapse it erased all of us who'd been here longer than Feb 16th... so I think some of us have been here longer...My original was May 2005:)

Why is September make or break?

Hey - and when do Fox's rights expire? My theory (delusional though it may be!) is that Joss is just waiting... so he can take his jewel of a show elsewhere without the F*X getting a cut!

But I ain't going a'nowhere no matter! This site is unparalleled as far as helping with procrastination and work avoidance. :)

My feeling is that there’s less activity going on on the boat. Don’t know the reason and I’m guilty of not posting myself because of just being out of the mood. But I ain’t going anywhere. Course I don’t make it to all the discussions but as for as arguments/infighting/disputes, I don’t think that there’s been an increase in any. Not more than usual anyway. I think people are just getting tired of all the “Silence” we’re getting from the companies that can actually shed some light on what’s going on with FF/Serenity. We’re getting so close to September and that’s the make or break month for the long fight that we’ve been through. People are just becoming frustrated I think and it’s understandable. We need some breadcrumbs for the movie companies or something.

I’ve been here a year and a half which isn’t long but I don’t qualify as a newbie either. My advice to any browncoat thinking of wanting to leave is to just take a break. I’ll be here and thousands of other browncoats will be too. We’ll hold till you get back.

Second thought it may be the PAX.

I'm not sure how long I've been here...but it's been too long to quit now. I'm not as active as I once was, but there's some wanderings. Like Rose, I've had "time-outs," but those were because of myself, not because of other people on the board. So, I still exist, although you might not have thought so, Teach. ;)

Been here for a year, eight months, three days, and forty four minutes and I'm starting to look like on of the older posters on the site. This place has been here since what, 2002? Seen alot of folks come and go. That's just the way things are.
But lord knows I kinda miss the old days of degating in RWED. Seems I need to visit there more often.

There's not much new on the horizon and that's causing 1. members to visit the site less or just leave alltogether 2. infighting because there's nothing new on the 'Verse front to talk about for any length of time that hasn't been done to death already.

Me, I just ignore the people that annoy me.

I understand the urge to take a break or leave altogether, but whenever I have it's never lasted very long, and has been more akin to staying in my bunk and throwing things than finding another boat. That said, a few people have ranted about very general problems that I just don't see. I've had some very specific problems, feeling shut out in the cold or personally insulted, but a lot of times I see people saying "Things have changed." or "Everyone's fighting." or something equally general, and I don't get where they're coming from. I avoid the people and the places that sent me screaming in frustration, and I haven't wanted to leave since. There doesn't seem, from my point of view, to be a widespread problem of fighting or disrespect. So the long term members of the site who are leaving... I don't know why. I wish I did. I've never gotten to talk to very many of them, but it doesn't seem right for Browncoats to leave just because there are more Browncoats. Shouldn't we stick together? Even if there are different garrisons, we're all the same army.
