Yeah, I agree with you. While I'm no fan of Arwen, she didn't hurt the movie that much.

But I think without her, the film would've had only two women, Eowyn and Galadriel, and that would have completely pissed off a lot of people.

See though... I would argue that they put in a few things that were unneccessary, so the things that were kind of 'cut for time' still bug me, because I think at least one of them could have been put back in if they hadn't dramatized Arwen's role.
