Dirty Firefly Dancin'...

Okay, so, you wouldn't believe it if you knew me-knew me, but i am a big geek. As in, with a capital 'G'. So big that i went to see "Dirty Dancing" in theatres this past Tuesday because they (the big "They" we all know and frequently want to kick in the shins until they submit to our Browncoated demands) re-released the movie to theatres in honor of its twenty year anniversary. With little interview thingies before the movie started.

Now, why bring this up on a Flan-site?

Because the first little interview thingie with the writer/creator of the Dirty Dancing concept said "Did we really think we were making something that would become this? No. This is all possible because of the fans..."

Let me repeat: "THIS IS ALL POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF THE FANS."

And i thought, woah. In twenty years, i could be sitting in another theatre watching the twentieth anniversary re-release of the Big Damn Heroes. Fans DO have powers! If we didn't, how'd we get here? If we didn't, how did THEY get THERE? (They, in this case, being the people we are fans OF...i know, i keep switching definitions of 'They'...sorry...)

And then i remembered sitting in the theatre for "Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights" (again, GEEK, okay? i know...) and i saw that someone made THAT movie...and if that can happen, then why does anyone lose faith that we can't get more of this 'verse? I mean, let's face it: dancing is fun and all, but men who stand up against the Alliance are hot .

So...i guess this turned into a pep talk, but i felt i had to share.

So, to recap: me = big Geek; "Dirty Dancing" in theatres renewed hope that we have the power to at least bring the BDM back to screens; if "Dirty Dancing" got a sequel, what the hell makes us think we can't?
