Kosmorama
Friday, April 27, 2007

The third Kosmorama is now over. Kosmorama is Trondheims annual filmfestival. Six days of movies and seminars. Among the movies I saw I would like to recomend some of them. "Black Sheep" from New Zealand is hillarious. If youve ever wondered what would happen if someone in that sheep infested country fiddeled too much with the genes of those wolly creatures, this film presents one senario. Sheep can be creepy and dangerous. If you like zombies, stupid enviromentalists, crazy nazilike scientists and old ladies with shotguns, and if you always suspected that there was evil under the woolly surface of sheep this is the movie for you.

Also the korean movie "the Host" is worth the time. Its so many bad monster movies out there so its nice to finally see one that is both funny and good. The monster is not a slow moving, guttural girl with long black hair either so yay. It is also a tiny hint of politics in there, but just enough to make the movie better, not so much so that the whole movie becomes some kind of metaphor.

"Renaissance" is another movie that i saw and really liked. I have always thought that rotoscope was kinda cool, and this movie proves it. Its absolutely beautiful to look at, black and white with a grafic novel/film noir feel to it. The story is something every fan of dystopian science fiction will appreciate. It has good actors too; Daniel Craig, Ian Holm and Jonathan Pryce among others.

The russian movie "Playing the Victim" was perhaps the most positive suprise I have gotten in a while. The main character, a rather dysfunctional guy, is playing the victim in reinactments of crimes. Hes not the only dysfunctional person in the cast. The movie is one of the funniest I have seen, if you get the chance see this one.

The american film "Half Nelson" is also worth watching. Its a cute and sometimes sad story of the friendship between a teacher and a student. The girl who plays the student is brilliant and is herself a reason to see it.
