A friend of the family and I have been discussing possible structures for the book I'm writing. The problem is that I want to transport a rather serious and important message that can't be transferred into one simple and single sentance. So I have to gain certain insights on one specific character without making him the protagonist, simply for the fact of me not wanting him to be that. Very cpmplex. *shudders*

KayleeGirl: I've written the first three chapters, though more of a report than anything else. It'll be strange... The point of view is first person reported.

I'm thinking of approaching that subject step by step by giving the reader access to thoughts and motivations through a remote observer that is an actual character - sort of. Wouldn't want the "important" guy to be the one with the main focus on him. That'd just be against my general self-delusion of taste. ;)

But yeah, I like your idea of going there one step at a time... Hm... *ponders some more*

Have you written anything yet or are you just in the outline stage? Also, And what pov/narrator are you going to write this in? That can sometimes make all the difference.

Actually, I don't think it's as hard as you might think. From your blog above, you want to discuss a theme or message that is multifaceted or multi-layered. Well, try doing the exploration in steps: start with one kernel and build upon as you go along until the bigger picture is created.

Now...this view is probably misguided and I will come to see this fact if I ever get my writing freak on, BUT I think that Big Ideas need time to play out so the audience can grow into the theory or theories with the characters;)
