Abandoned ship

Just over a week ago the snow lifted north of us for a morning. Since I really couldn't afford to miss another week of work, we threw everything we could in the cars, dug ourselves out, and bailed.

We have been camping on the floors at my grandfather's house. The hot water heater apparently decided to die sometime before our arrival, but luckily I tossed some kitchen stuff in a 5 gallon brew pot, so we've been able to make water hot. We have heat and light. We do not have internet.

We had a working toilet until this morning.
We have no idea what's wrong, but the sink's been burping when you flush for the last two days.
The vent is not blocked. We're hoping it's not the septic system.

I'm up at the snowed in house today waiting for the crew as what's going to dig our roof out from under that which shall not be named and is measured in yards at this point.
Doing laundry and laughing as warm water comes out of a faucet when you turn a knob.

One of my cousins died Saturday. He was not quite 30. I don't know anything more other than services will be Friday in PA.
At least I'm on vacation this week so *this time* I don't have to argue about whether or not I can have time off to go.

Sorry for your loss...Can't really think of anything to say, other than 'zen hugs' and hope it gets a bit better for you soon.
