Snooooww Daaaaayy!!!
Monday, February 5, 2007

We made it about 3 miles from home to the truckstop at the interstate when I said "this is completely ruttin' nuts" and turned the car around.

Three inches an hour or better of snowfall with wind chill into the negative numbers and blowing snow... I think discretion was definitely the better part of commuting today.

Schools were closed any old how, so we all played Yahtzee until my ears rattled. Woodstove's just starting to burn down and it's time to tuck the wee one in.

STINKINGROSE

How much snow, you say?

Well, between yesterday and this morning we got about 2 to 2 1/2 feet, with more falling steadily. They have extended the lake effect storm warning to tomorrow at 6pm with expected total accumulation at five feet or better in my area.

This in and of itself would not be so bad, but there are 15-25 mph winds blowing it all around until you can't see and it's so cold (then add the wind chill on) that the windshield washer fluid freezes while you use it.

YES, that IS the sub zero fluid before you ask.

So "just a bit" pretty much covers it. I know they get 10 feet in a storm in the midwest, but we're not used to much over 2 feet at a time on a regular basis, so they're (DOT and sheriff's office) working hard but have asked that there be no unnecessary travel.

When the truckers pull off to wait it out you know it's getting ugly.

Hey out of curiosity how much snow constitutes a snow day for you? Glad you got to stay home and enjoy yourself though:)

I'm jealous - snow days are the best! Send some of that my way if you get a chance!

Stay warm!

Lucky you, stinkingrose...don't get many snow days when one goes to college or university. Not unless the local Public Works commission gets seriously behind ploughing or fixing busted equipment;)
