The Good, the Bad and the Tired
Saturday, December 9, 2006

Well, I did a day trip up to see Mom today (7-8 hours driving and 5 1/2 hours there--someday I'll get over 5 hours of sleep in a night) and have noticed a big difference just from Thanksgiving to today. She's more alert, less sleepy but for the first time in my life she looks her age (68). She's never looked old before. Older, yes, but not old.

Since she's been out of the hospital (a few dozen+ days) she's only had a hald dozen good ones. The kinda good news is, most of those days have been within the past week. She has learned the hard way, that she has to take all her meds, not just some. Well, she's still balking at the slow-release morphine, but is only taking the quick release ones a few times a day. She says the slow-release ones make her more nauseaous, so I've stopped harping on it, but she's taking all the other ones she suppose to, so now she's actually able to keep what she eats & drinks down. She's annoyed that her stomach isn't thrilled with meat. I've tried to explain to her that since she's almost gone a month without meat, it's thrown her entire digestive tract off and it'll take some time to work back up to it.

I was glad that I actually got to spend time with her on this trip (the previous ones she slept through mostly) and talk a bit. No major conversations as I think neither one of us wants to upset the other. So we looked at some pictures, I filled her bird feeders (she's a bird watcher) and we watched a bald eagle hunting over the lake across the street.

I found to my surprise this past week that my mother loves the Harry Potter movies (I was afraid she was listening to the fundie "Christians" and boy-cotting it) but that she hadn't seen Goblet of Fire yet, so I bought her a copy to watch. I also brought up my copy of the new 'Pirates of the Carribean' movie for her to see as well. (She loves watching Johnny Depp.)

Work's getting a bit intense due to calendar year end. I got my quarterly review sprung on me on Thursday as well (less than 24 hours warning, but long enough to annoy my IBS) but did fine on it, so apparently my boss hasn't seen any major mistakes on my part (which I've caught myself making) due to my becoming a scatterbrain this past month. He's also not counting the report of 1500 accounts I'm suppose to work and give to the manager (I was given this the first week in November.) I haven't finished it completely as there's info I need from him before I can finish the last 2 dozen.

I've finally started my Christmas shopping this week. Actually I had gotten one gift previously. I'd bought my mother an amber dragonfly pin while I was at Pensic in August. It has three different types of amber in it: light brown, dark brown and green. It looks beautiful, and mom likes dragonflies. I've gotten stuff for five folks since yesterday afternoon, so not too shabby. I know what I'm getting for another four, and three I'm clueless on ideas, so will have to ask what they want (or in the case of my nephew, ask my s-i-l what he wants.)

I think I'd like to take a bit of space here to apologize if I've been a little too sharp in my humor and offended anyone. When I'm stressed I tend to get a bit snarkier, and don't mean to take it out on anyone. The caffine I'm not supposed to be having magnifies this problem.

I won't apologize for the virtual streaking through the discussion threads. That was fun.

Thanks again for all your support, hugs and well wishes folks. Folks here are the absolute best.

*hugs* & love!
