Let me begin by saying that I LIKE SIMON AND KAYLEE TOGETHER. They are a good age match, though she has far less innocence about her than Simon. I completely understand why people want to see K/S together and make that pairing work.

Let me also say though, that I am not convinced that it would be a long lasting relationship. Despite River's protests, I envision Simon still being too protective and too concerned for her well-being to give Kaylee the full attention she needs (re: must have!). Simon has spent nearly his entire life looking out for River in some way; just think about the lengths he went to free River (whichever method you accept). I see S and K being a couple for passion and to fill the void of the Black, but I'm not convinced of anything long-term. And Kaylee is still very young and I think likes the idea of Simon - handsome, shiny, articulate, cultured, refined. The day-to-day living with that, however, might prove more difficult than she is ready to handle.

Should Jayne be her alternative? Not necessarily.

As for J and R, this is not something I see happening. Firstly, I don't think that R's physical features are anything of what Jayne would like or be attracted to. From what we've seen, I think he would prefer a woman with more curves and more "meat" on her. I also think that Jayne would like to have a woman who is feminine and wouldn't be competition for him. This is part of my issue with Zayne fics - Jayne needs to feel the man and women who are tough, physical fighters encroach into his domain. Please understand that I think he has the utmost regard and respect for Zoe's fighting skill and would even grudgingly admit to admiring River's. I am not convinced, though, that he would like those qualities in his lover.

In the end, it doesn't particularly matter as I always seem to substitute myself for any woman that Jayne ends up being with. Sorry, but it's my voice I hear when reading these fics and...I just love Jayne so much that I can't help myself. I mean, really! Look at the boy!!! :)

I agree with you reasoning, browncoatchick92. Jayne and Kaylee are quite similiar to one another, but that becomes an impediment via each one seeming like a sibling to the other. That and Simon is a better emotional match for Kaylee, though it's a bit harder to observe sometimes;)

Also, I agree with the idea of River and Jayne hooking up. Regardless of age and indivual experience with intimacy, our favourite merc is probably the best person to understand someone like River other than maybe Mal; Jayne is a killer, but by choice and reason who is perceived as being outside the social norms with his lewdness, lack of tact and completely honest emotions.

hmmm I'd definitely agree no Jayne and Kaylee for 3 reasons
1- Mal would break his neck
2-Kaylee loves Simon
3- Jayne's not her type

Not sure about the Jayne/River thing save to say he's about the only one tough enough to survive her should she take it in her head to get interested.
