Good for you for coming up with original characters for your fanfics. I know they're incredibly tough to create, and usually when it comes to fanfics, most people don't even bother to glance at stories that arn't canon. They always have to follow the source religiously, which is tough especially for a show that lasted half a season and a movie.

Personally, I find having half canon and half original works. Like with my story of YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN, I have River going off on her own and meeting a whole new group of people, which wile admittedly is tough, also opens up new dimensions of the world and of her character.
