Bringing Back Firefly
Monday, April 3, 2006

Hi,

I Think I have found a way to bring Firefly back to the small screen. First off, I do not pretend to know much about finance, but from what I understand the main reason no tv network has brought Firefly back was becouse it was becouse of money. as Tony Montana once said "First you get the money, Then you get the power". I prefer "it's called the golden rule: whoever has the gold, makes the rules".

If you can't see what this has to do with Firefly, please just stick with me a little longer.

In the business world stock is the equivelent of gold. When you own a companys stock you own part of that company, giving you more influence in the company than the average guy. Let's say that afew people buy 15 shares of stock each, in the same company. 15 shares is not that much, but if that group was working together it all adds up. Suppose there are over 500 members of this site. Now if say 250 of those members, thats less then half, each bought 15 shares of stock in the same company, that would a total of 3750 shares of stock. Now if that company happened to be a tv network like Sci-Fi channel or Spike tv, then a petition from the stock-holders would carry more weight than a pettition from the general public. We would have the "gold" so we would be able to influence the rules, and mabey, just mabey, be able to bring back Firefly!

We also have one thing that the cable companies do not have, Microsoft! That may sound pretty lame, but Paul Allen is a major Sci-Fi fan. He owns captain Kirk's chair and a life sized replica of the Alien, from the movie Alien.

I think this is just crazy enough to work, I mean, I have seen a few petitions to start up Firefly again, but I have yet to see one made that was signed by stock holders!

let me know what you think.

ACCIOJOSH

I agree that it's a good idea, but also agree that we need to ensure its continuation, not just the return. Obviously one of the major problems was not content, but how it was put up on the screen. We need to put the show back in a medium that would cater to Joss, the show and us, not to their belief in what we would want.

I think we've proven beyond doubt that those morons working the controls really have NO CLUE what we want when it comes to sci-fi. They've done well for the general masses (aka people with low IQs who need every minute detail spelled out to enjoy something), but sci-fi fans tend to be of a higher calibre, and we tend to require more from our shows.

That's why I also believe the SciFi channel would be a much better candidate for this than Fox. Not to mention I hate Fox.

If someone knows how to get this rolling, and what we need to do, I'll surely help in any way I can. Maybe we should petition that guy who has that ffseason2 website...

great idea though how much would shares cost?
probably wouldn't have to buy shares in FOX - sci-fi porbably would be cheaper. although FOX own the rights it may be easier and cheaper as shoreholders of sci-fi to get them to seek the rights from FOX then as shareholders of FOX to get them to start it up again

Not a bad theory, but the group would have been massive, to buy up all available stock in Fox Television, who have the rights to the series.

Still...it's a plan;)

shiny sign me up also I saw this idea posted on one of the threads, if all the browncoats chipped in $10 a week then we might be able to defray some of the cost

WASHBURNEFAN

I think it's a great idea, however this is like trying to bring back someone to life, they do, but the person is damaged from loss of oxygen.

My prediction is that it might get back on the air, but die again like it did... unless it gets a different time-slot, or we find a way to fund it ourselves/ get more people to watch it.

Here's an idea, it's a new FOX reality/contest show, where the winners/winner gets to bring back one cancelled FOX show of their choice i.e. Firefly.
