The Name Game

Whatever possessed Joss when he dubbed our mercenary "Jayne"?

I've broached this subject before on several occasions, and I've come to a few realizations.

If you notice, the name Jayne is actually an amalgam of J(OHN) (W)AYNE, and if you take into account that John Wayne himself was originally given a girl's name (Marion Morrison), I'm of the belief that it's a tribute to the Duke.

There's also a supreme irony in the fact that the meaning of the name "Jane" (feminine version) is "gracious" or "merciful".

I may be over-thinking the whole thing, but it's interesting all the same, no?

Not trying to knock anyone, but I think that taking amalgam and such is starting to stretch a little.

Nuclearday, the Johnny Cash thing was the first thing that popped in my mind too! I guess great minds think alike ;)

Huh... Never thought about that before. Sooner or later I'll realise that everything in the 'verse is multidimensional. I mean... obviously I know this but I can never seem to remember it, leading to many forhead slapping/'no duh' moments!

Good thinking...Just wanted to point out that Marian is a girl's name and Marion a boy's.
