2x2

My own T-Shirts....
Thursday, February 2, 2006

I went and bought some Silk Screening Textile Inks the other day and decided to give silk screening a try... I ended up buying a sheer curtain to use as the screen, and made the frame out of a 2x2 (snicker) that I had laying around. I bought a squeegee thingy at the dollar store, and some white glue, and I was in business....

So far, I've made two shirts... I did a TG Freight shirt, using a method where you trace the image on the screen, and then fill in the areas you don't want to print with the white glue... this resulted in some very imprecise lines that were not crisp enough for the letters and symbols unfortunately, but it's passabel for my first attempt.

The second shirt I did is of a sihouette of Serenity in black, with the chinese characters for "serenity" in red over top.. I really like the design and this time I used a paper stencil which gave me much much more crisp lines. Since this was a two colour silk screen, I had to cut out two stencils, one for the ship, with the space for the characters left un printed, and then one for just the characters... unfortunately, I wasn't able to cut them out exactly perfect, so they didn't 100% match up, but I still think it looks pretty cool... I'll post some pictures as soon as I get them off the camera...

I must say it's totally addictive... I have plans for alll sort of Serenity/Firely t-shirts... Naturally, I'll have to do a Blue Sun one ;o)
It's extremely easy, and the results are quite acceptable.. I'm having a blast!
