A quick summary of how I was feeling last night:

For anyone who missed all the drama, I posted a new fanfic entitled "Wet" in the Blue Sun Room. Anyone who's read any of my fics can probably guess the pairing and rating, right?

Here's the first reponse I recieved, from an anonymous poster:

Quote:

"umm... thats past NC-17...

and uhh, if ur gonna write porno novel, please don't post it here like this.
I'm 17 myself and my little brother gets on this site.
think aobut the children."

Mmmmkay. I think I've figured out why this ticked me off.

First: Past NC-17? Is there such a thing? As far as I'm concerned, unless otherwise noted, NC-17 denotes that the story contains graphic sexual activity between consenting adults. Which is what my story contained.

Second: My fic is hardly the only NC-17 story on this site. Although this troll said it was the first one it had read. Well now, if it's the first it read on the site, it must be the only one, right?

Third, the troll went on to say that Simon and Kaylee's love is much purer than what I portray in my fic. All right, anyone who's read my previous fics (there's 12 of them) knows that I have spent this entire series showing the progression of Simon and Kaylee's relationship. Also, just because their love is "pure," they have to be celibate? Uh, that. Personally, I believe that when two people truly love each other, sex can be one of the purest ways of expressing that love.

Furthermore, and I think this is the thing that really annoyed me: Think about the children? No, I will not. Know why? Because they are not my children. Frankly, if parents allow a young child to be online without discussing what kind of sites the child is allowed to visit, or monitoring their child's online activities in some way, anything that the kid is exposed to, anything that happens, is completely and totally the fault of the parents.

I'm already disgusted by people who use the TV or internet as a babysitter. I really don't need someone telling me that I somehow have an obligation to make it that much easier for them to do so. Bull. Sorta like when people complain about what their kids see on TV. So sorry Hollywood hasn't done a better job of raising your kids.

And after that, the troll has the nerve to start critcizing my writing style. Yeah, not even going there, except to say that anyone who wants to critque any writer damn well better learn how to spell first.

I'll quit bitching and get back to writing, but first, to summarize: If you don't like NC-17 material, don't read my fics. If you don't like my writing style, don't read my fics. If you read one of my fics and don't much like it, I don't much care. And of course, if you are under the minimum age for viewing adult material wherever you live...

Oh, let's be honest here. If you're underage and you want to read NC-17 fics, even though you shouldn't, nothing I say is going to stop you, right? Gorram kids these days, no respect for the rules...why in my day we had to walk 15 miles to read smut! Through five feet of snow! Uphill! Both ways! *stomps off, muttering about rap music and baggy clothes*

Heh. What REALLY disturbs me is that the troll is 17 and spells like that.

Humanity is doomed.

Don't waste energy raging about stupid people :-) As others have said: two people in love having good sex is a wonderful thing and should bother no one anyway. And by rating it NC-17 you surely did enough.

What really bothers me is, that the guy is only 17 himself. I would expect to find a comment like that from worrying parents or grandparents, but not from a teenager. I sure would have appreciated a text like this when I was 17 and the last thing on my mind would have been that it could somehow "corrupt" me or a kid brother. This guy is old already, but maybe he will get over it when he has the first good sex himself ;)

Oh, I will, don't you fret none. I just needed to vent about it a little.

Just ignore the anon, they didn't even have the guts to use their screen name, if they are even a member of the site. It's obvious that people love your fics by how much they have been read. So keep up the writing and ignore the bad vibes from who ever that was.

I know, I'm such a perverted little deviant, writing about two adults expressing their feelings for each other physically. I must have some real emotional problems, huh?

Yay sarcasm!

OMG, you *freak*, how dare you write about two adults choosing to have a healthy, consentual sex life in a healthy, progressive relationship?!?!?

That's... uh... who would do that kind of thing?

(by the way, that's sarcasm, I'm totally on your side).

I didn't comment on your fic (Simon/Kaylee just isn't my thing, but I support your ability to write the damn thing!), but if I were you... ignore it. Just... ignore it.

Firstly, it's your writing, you have the choice to express it as you want to.

Secondly, you did the right thing and labelled it NC-17, which automatically suggests that there will be either very descriptive sex, or very descriptive violence/death/cruelty, etc...

From what I've seen, your fics don't ever rely heavily on descriptive violence, cruelty or death.

You're also right in suggesting that children who *do* get onto the site (and other sites where fanfic is openly posted) should have a very strong conversation with their parents/guardian about what they can and cannot read.

Keep writing. Most of your comments/feedback are good. Write for yourself and write for them.

Ignore the flamers and the trolls, there will always be a few people running loose around the net.

*glares at the troll*

Okay, to be fair, I doubt they would have kept going if they'd been aware that little sister was watching, but yeah.

Heh heh...dirty River!

That whole thing about the purety of their love made me go... um, were we watching the same movie? 'Cause I'm pretty sure they were gettin' it on while his sister watched.
