Muffin the Vampire Baker
Tuesday, October 25, 2005

I’ve mentioned Sluggy Freelance in one of my blogs before. It’s one of the most hilarious comic strips I’ve ever read. Well, reading through some of the older stories, I ran into a story I totally forgot about. Muffin the Vampire Baker. I think the author/artist of this comic; Pete Abrams is a bit of Buffy fan. Maybe even a fan of Whedon's work. I could be wrong though.

Sluggy Freelance has been running since 1997 and most of the characters have developed throughout the story, but it’s just as funny and the writer continues to treat his readers as intelligent people. If you start reading the story, start from the very beginning. I promise… it’s worth it.

But… you don’t need much, if any, back-story to enjoy these:

Muffin the Vampire Baker is mostly a stand-alone story that centers on one of the (not so major) characters, Sam. Sam’s a vampire. It’s a long story. Sam also has some character flaws that make him painfully endearing. Ok, not endearing but just funny.

Also, another hilarious stand-alone story in Sluggy is Torg and Riff’s Sci-fi Adventure . Just put a little of the movie Aliens, Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, X-Files and hilarity into a blender and put it on frappe.

I hope you enjoy them. It’s a ritual for me to check out what’s new on Sluggy every morning. There are mornings where people are looking over the walls in my cube to figure out why I’m struggling to keep laughter down. And there have been some really strong emotional moments too.

I’m really expecting at any moment to see a Firefly/Serenity reference somewhere, sometime in his comics.

I started reading Sluggy after you mentioned it in your last post. It's HILARIOUS. I've been reading a few weeks worth a day and I'm up to March 2001 now. I'm completely addicted.

I went to the beginning of the calendar and I'm up to the middle of October 97. It's awesome!
