Firefly: The Board Game - Playtest Version Available
Sunday, February 22, 2004

In the event that you've missed my blog entries or the short-lived thread, I'm developing a board game based on Firefly.

... Well, it's finally done and I had a chance to playtest it with friends this past Wednesday. Much to my everlasting happiness, it plays not altogether too badly.

It's free and you can get more details here:

Sample Images:

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to host the dozen or so large (1.5 MB+) files on my usual ISP, so the links on the page above link to a Yahoo!Groups file site. If any kind Browncoat would care to step forward to host these larger than average files, I'd be much obliged.

Hope you enjoy... I'm looking forward to feedback.

Koz.

Zoe is there now.

I'm very pleased to say that a very generous fellow Browncoat has offered to mirror the files at his site, hosting provided by Runebearer.

head to:

http://www.runebearer.com/Firefly

The capital "F" is important, it seems.

Out of courtesy to Runebearer's bandwidth, I suppose I should ask that you only use that link if the Yahoo method isn't working.

Many thanks to Runebearer! Happy downloading!

Gorramit.

Now all of YahooGroups is down.

I finally manage to roll this thing out and the hosting site goes belly-up.

Grrrrr...

Anyone care to host 14 x 1.5 MB files with a lot of downloading monkeys ready to pounce?

I joined the group, but it still gives the download exceeded limit message.

Hmmm - weird. I just tested it. Despite the fact that I've set it that all members should be able to download, it isn't letting standard members download, only moderators. I've tried setting and resetting the priveleges but it doesn't seem to let someone download unless they're a moderator. For now, I'll do the workaround by making everyone a low-privelege moderator for now.

I've tested it with another Yahoo account and it seems to be working. I'm not sure what the issue is at the moment... but for the time being, everyone who signs up gets to be a moderator!

You know, it's funny... I've tried it several times this morning and I haven't had any problems. Maybe the download priveleges are different for administrators. I'll test it in a moment.

Sorry about the download limits. As I mention elsewhere, the files need to be quite large in order for any sort of decent image quality to be maintained. As it is, all of the images have been downsampled from 300 dpi to 200 dpi just to make them reasonable downloads.

Hopefully some knight in Browncoat armour will step forward to offer to host these files somewhere. It's unfortunate that I have to use Yahoo!Groups.

Maniac, if you have specific questions, post them here or to the thread in general discussions and I'll try to help you (and anyone else who has questions) out.

This looks like much fun. I wish you were around to explain all the rules to me and help it run smooth.
