Spreading the word of Serenity any way I can
Monday, September 12, 2005

My Canadian Literature prof is... unusual. I had my first Can. Lit. class today and the first thing she asked the class to do was arrange the desks into a "u" shape. Now, I haven't sat like that since elementary school. Then she asked us to make name tags. Granted it was so she could learn our names but then she asked if she could take our picture to help make the name learning easier. It was a little weird. But weird in a cool sort of way. She's different and that's nice in a prof.

So being different means new things. I just discovered this orientation thing I have to do before the weekend. The first half asks that you reply in the discussion board and that's obviously not going to be an issue for me. The second half is to make a little homepage about yourself. This can be done with this on-line thing called "Blackboard". It's not a real webpage but the class, and maybe the whole campus, can see your profile.

So I took the opportunity to spread the word of Serenity .

I tried not to sound too geekish, but now it's known class wide, and possibly campus wide, that I'm a geek. Bah. Who cares. I briefly mentioned that Serenity was coming out at the end of the month and uploaded an icon I had made of River. I took the image from the Australian poster so she looks scary. Hopefully people will actually do this assignment, see my page, be intrigued by River, and decide to check out Serenity . I can dream, right?

Ouch. I feel left out, I'm still in high school. I hope I'm not giving this site a bad name by being one of the youngest people here. Sorry.

I've spent most of my grad school classes evangelizing for Serenity through my projects. Anytime I have some kind of interactive project to create, I tend to make it Firefly/Serenity related...all my JavaScript exercises were exclusively 'verse projects, as was my final Authorware one. I don't think I'm going to be able to do much this semester with it, except maybe my research basics class, because I'm proposing an ethnographic study of science fiction fans in various genres and their use of technology. Gotta get it in where I can!

That sounds great! If I had to design a homepage, I probably would have made it about Serenity, too.

And that's right; who cares if you're thought of as a geek. We like you that way!!
