SUNYATSEN'S BLOG
I recently discovered Firefly two weeks ago, and it was a revelation for me. I am now obsessed with it and Serenity, to no small degree.
I saw an issue of Serenity #1 (with Mal on the cover, no less) at a chain bookstore as recently as July 30th. Stupidly thinking that this was the comic book version of the film, I avoided buying it since I didn't want to ruin the surprise.
Since finding out that the comics tell a bridging story between the television show and film, I've begun looking for them to no avail. For reference, I live in San Francisco, not some tiny podunk. Comic book shops have sold out, and I refuse to buy a single issue off of eBay for $10. And yes, they really are selling for that much.
Part of my anger is at Dark Horse for underprinting such a highly demanded series. Part of my anger is at myself for stupidly not buying it when I had the chance. And part of my anger is towards profiteers who, sadly, are charging all that the market will bear.
Critiques of lassez faire capitalism aside, would someone be so kind as to share a brief summary of the comics with a poor, lost soul?
8/6 Update: For those interested, Border's downtown and Virgin Megastore (also downtown) have lots of copies of Serenity #1, but only the Mal cover. Buy them from Borders, since Virgin puts ruttin' price tags on the merchandise and leave gummy residue when pulled off.
