[Dead] Guerilla marketing tracking
Monday, February 14, 2005

{Final update}
Well, it looks like Amazon has removed the recommendation feature for their site so this blog entry is unneccessary. They did this once before but brought back the recs after a few weeks (and the direct bookmarks to the rec pages still worked, they just weren't linked off the main product page). This time it's been more than a month since they removed the links and the rec pages have been deleted. So it's a safe bet that this guerilla marketing tactic is dead. Therefore, no reason to be coy about the data on this page...

Quick summary, I tracked the Amazon pages of clost to a hundred DVD boxed sets for half a year. For the vast majority of these, the Firefly DVD set appeared on the main product page as, "people recommend this DVD in addition to this product." Based on that, I conclude that this particular guerilla marketing tactic was a success.
