Patience is part of serenity
Tuesday, November 23, 2004

Okay, a five month delay. This would have to be done on the day I book my tickets to the convention but that's synchronicity for you. Actually, I'd prefer it if the cast/audience didn't know the result of the movie when we see them. Nowadays you know if a movie is a success about five hours after it opens so even if it had just been a week we'd know if it was a flop or sequeltastic.

Just thinking about these things in general terms, how often do sci-fi series make a successful comeback?

Star Trek: The Animated Series - flop
Star Trek: The Motion Picture - hit
Star Trek: The Next Generation - hit
Farscape Miniseries - flop (ish)
Doctor Who TVM - flop
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace - hit (financially)
Stargate SG1 - hit

So that's really about a 50/50 success rate. Let's hope it's Firefly's turn to hit and hit well (although do note that while the Doctor Who TVM failed, a mere 9 years later a fresh series is about to hit our screens so don't give up on Firefly until at least 2014).
