I figured since Nathan and Adam and who knows who else have been posting on here and keeping you guys up to date, I might as well, too. I just bought a new lap top and am very anxious to use it! (If I can figure out how to use it). "Serenity" is a dream come true. Working with these wonderful people who love their jobs so much, every day, all day, is just awesome. WE ARE BACK!!!! Some things have changed, but not a lot, and no, Adam, I'm not giving away any spoilers. I can say this, though: Joss is a genius. This script is truly one of the best I've read, and I'm incredibly honored to be doing this film-- his first film-- and my first film as a lead (!). How exciting is that!! There hasn't been a bad day yet. Even with dust in your mouth and suncreen running into your eyes and sweat making little pools under your boobs... this is still the best job I've ever had. Thank you thank you thank you to the fans out there. Your continued support makes this whole experience even more enjoyable. I'll write again soon!

Hi Jewel,
It's great to hear that you and the other cast members are having fun being together again. Hopefully it will be a lot more comfortable for you now that the shooting has moved to the studio. We are having quite a heat wave here in BC so it's probably almost as hot as it is down in LA!

Meanwhile, the job of converting my friends and colleagues to Browncoats goes on...

Best wishes,
Andrew

Jewel! Thank you so much for posting! You (and Adam and Nathan and pretty much everyone who has anything to do with Firefly, really...) are so cool!

I feel like jumping up and down with a big grin on my face every time I think about the movie.

Anyway, if you're still reading this (and you might not be, because sometimes people just post and never read the replies... which is perfectly understandable, because there are usually a lot of them), I would just like to explain something. You may not remember me, of course, but...

At the Fusion convention in Blackpool, England, you commented on my tank top? It had a Blue Sun logo on the front and on the back there was a picture of River with stuff written on it (this picture: )? You asked me where I got it, and I got all muddled up and ended up saying some really strange things... Well. How I got it. I bought the tank top plain, bought some iron-on transfer paper, printed out the pictures (the Blue Sun logo I got from right here on fff.net, the River poster from aforementioned site), ironed them on, and voila, Firefly tank top!

There. I feel so much better after explaining that properly, if only to give 11th Hour the credit she deserves (she has more Firefly posters on her website, by the way: http://the11thhour.home.att.net/ ).

ANYWAY. Again, thank you so much for posting (and for coming to Fusion, for that matter, 'cause that was so much fun)! Things like this always make me smile :)

I am, as ever, waiting (im)patiently for it. Say hey to the gang for us, ok?

By the way--if you scroll down to "Firefly Universe" we have a little RP going in there where I'm playing Kaylee. I'd love to get your take on how I'm doing with her! "GunRunners RP" is pretty long, but it's a good, funny read. I have no idea if you're reading this or not, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks!

I'm just confused why there is sweat pooling up beneath Joss, Adam and Nathan.

Anyways, it's great to hear that everyone is so enthusiastic on the set. Of course, all that does is raise our expectations. If the movie isn't one of the best of 2005, we may end up being a bit disappointed.

Of course, given the talent involved, I think you've got a real good shot at meeting the high expectations.

As another poster from way far away (Tokyo), I'd like to add to what the poster from Israel said, that having you all post here to the fans means even more since it's almost impossible for us to get together with other Browncoats. This site is our link to the wonderfulness that is "Firefly."

Jewel -

Many thanks for the news and kind words on the BDM! And any response I'm cookin' up is of the bland, just that it's wonderful to hear about everything being in operation. And yes, all us fans have been hangin' on the every word posted since Day the First.

Side bar: as taxing as shooting in the desert may have been, at least the weather sounds to have been consistent. Be thankful there was no truth to those East Coast "NYC area" rumors way back when. Our weather's just been doin' the wacky...and I can't think of any desert-like locales around here anyway, so what'd be up with that?!

And yeah...speechless and in awe of the fact that we'll all be lining up to see it 22 April.

Wow, one of the BDH popsting on the same site as I frequent? Shiny.
I just want to wish you and all the other cast and crew members all the best in the movie, and whatever else you do in the future. I'm waiting for the BDM with baited breath.
So, a big 'Hi' from all the Browncoats in my corner of the 'verse (Devon, England), and best wishes for the future.

Jewel thank you so much for taking time from your busy schedule to post here and tell us how things are going on the BDM.

We are so happy to know that you and the rest of our BDHs are out there in Hollywood making Serenity even as some of us are reading these posts. It makes us browncoats all warm and fuzzy inside to know that Joss and the cast are doing the impossible. It makes the pins & needles of waiting until April more bearable.

Take care, wish all the cast our best, and post when you can. You are most welcome here to our humble site.

Hearing from you makes all the difference. You are the greatest group of people. The limbs I would give to work on a show with any of you. We love being kept in the loop of the filming. I worked the Trek Expo here in Tulsa and proudly talked up the movie to anyone who would listen, and a few that wouldn't. Your posting here validates us. We may not be "official" but we are ever loyal, ever faithful, & ever browncoats.

We're so glad that you were able to figure out how your laptop worked for the moment ;) We appreciate any and all updates and thank you kindly. It's great to see you as a lead, you are an amazing actress and I've been a fan since way back when. You definitely deserve to be a lead! We're all excited about the movie and we know the whole cast is working hard and let's keep it that way :) We can't wait to see the movie and we know you are all making us proud. Joss is the man, he only makes gold, so we know this script has to be literally, out of this world. Thanks again for the update and we hope to hear from you again soon :)

Well, since I didn't bother to read more than 30 or so of the 70+ replies to this topic, you might not either, and I probably won't be saying anything that hasn't already been expressed (and probably using the same words), but. . .

"Firefly" is an amazing phenomenon. There is not a single person I know who has seen it and not fallen in love with the show immediately. The fact that everyone is as shiny off-screen as they are on-screen is rare, and makes the show even more special. I hope you and everyone else realize that means a lot to the fans, to know that we're part of "the gang" and not something to be avoided.

That would make you all Big Damn Heroes even if the movie never happened, but you all have done the impossible, and that makes you mighty. You're the best mechanic in the 'verse, so keep Serenity flyin'!

I think perhaps that, until my first child is born or whatever, sending that letter to universal is going to rank as one of the best things I've done in my life (although I'm sure it was pebbles in the ocean in terms of actually achieving anything :>)

But: so cool! If there's anything any of the cast/crew/extended-family-of-any-member-of-the-cast -or-crew need, like a place to stay in England, or legal advice, let me know :P

Hello Jewel,

Wow, my favourite of our great BDHs posting here on this very site. I'm gobsmacked, this has just made my day!

Many thanks for taking the time to post. "Firefly" really is a unique phenomenon; I've never known any other television programme or film where the cast and crew have such an obvious synergy with the fans, and if anything that fact makes me even more proud to be a Browncoat. It's very obvious that wonderful things are happening with the making of "Serenity" and means so much that you gave us your thoughts.

Please come over and see all your fans in the UK again soon, and in the meantime, keep that ship flying!

Hi,

I believe I spoke to you on the OB. I didn't mention it at the time, because I know how annoying it is to have missed something that you could have gone to, but Starfury conventions that I told you about also ran a Buffy event earlier this year. Nathan Fillion, Jewel Staite and Summer Glau attended. The following is a link to people's reports about it:

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=5020

And this is a report from the City of Angel website:

http://cityofangel.com/behindTheScenes/bts4/fusionHapps.html

I believe Joss Whedon also attended a convention in the UK a few years ago. I can't remember the name but I think it began with an N. I'm not sure. And Jane Espenson who wrote the episode Shindig was at a convention called The Harvest a year or so ago.

If you want to know anything about any of these let me know.

Also if someone else would like to reply here I'm sure it would be appreciated by Obsidian as I keep hijacking her threads and she probably wishes I would go someplace that's not here.

I'm useless meeting Firefly/Buffy cast or anyone for that matter.

I think I was accidently pretty rude to Jewel Staite at the convention, which I feel really bad about. So if she reads this then I apologise profusely. I was having a group photo taken with her, Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau. I get hugely nervous in photos. Firstly I hate having my photo taken and secondly those things are like those military operations where someone shouts 'go' and it's literaly in and out at light speed. So you have no time to overcome the horrible fear and dizziness at meeting the cast. So when Nathan Fillion put his arm round me in the photo in all the confusion of thinking 'Oh my Joss! Nathan Fillion just put his arm around me' I had my back to Jewel Staite and completely ignored her. It was not at all intentional but was completely rude of me. So if she does ever read this I really do apologise.

Then meeting James Marsters (I'm good with the name dropping here aren't I?) he signed a picture for me and I managed to tell him about five times before I left how fantastic it was that he had signed his name. Oh dear.

So I am like the worst people person ever, but in the end you have to risk making a fool of yourself in order to meet this amazing cast. The chance that they'll remember every person that they meet is pretty small anyway.

I don't know whether you have heard the stories on the board of the extra in the movie who got to meet most of the cast. If that had been me I'd never have made the most of it. I'd just have sat there eating lunch on my own, done my scene and then left. I'd never have been brave enough to approach Adam Baldwin or Summer Glau like he did.

I know what you mean (you lucky thing you)and I think my body subconsciously tries to foil my every attempt, I have been sick or injured at every event I have atttended.

I travelled down to London Expo last Oct with really bad flu with the express purpose of meeting Michael Madsen, after queuing for what seemed like an eternity I was finally stood face to face with the man with my nose streaming, a pounding headache, a high temperature and was struck dumb. Fortunately my quickwitted friend interjected at explained that I was not well and the wonderful man put his hand on my brow, gave me a hug and told me to get home to bed (advice that I subsequently ignored but lovely all the same).

This year I'm improving slightly, actually managed to speak a few words to Corin Nemec and Armin Shimmerman (start with the least threatening)and beginning to think injuries are the key. Was involved in accident after intimate Ghost of the Robot gig (name dropping - who me?)before May's Expo and was on crutches which seemed to give me the sympathy vote. Spent a good ten minutes cuddled up to Craig Parker as a result and was able to get some great pics. Maybe I'll have to start breaking bones on a regular basis, it could be the key!

I'm so jealous that you got up close and personal with Nathan, but there's always time.

Take care

Nathan said he'd be back in the UK. I think he might even go to the Serenity con so I'm sure you'll get your chance. I wont deny that he was amazing to meet. I forgot to say that also Jonathan Woodward who played Tracy in The Message will be at the White Room in October. Also James Marsters and David Boreanaz are now holding a con in London that weekend. i posted a thread about it with more info somewhere.

There's no official date yet. I supspect it will be next year and there was talk about doing it to coincide with the movie release or to work around the movie release. I'm not sure.

www.starfury.co.uk has a thread on their messsage board about it but mostly it's just speculation on there at this point.

I managed to be rude to her as well. When having the autographs done I was so nervous I couldn't even look at her, I spoke to the guy sitting next to her instead. I also repeated the same sentance five times! She gave me a strange look. Oh well, hopefully she will read this a know I am not a lunatic.

Meeting Summer wasn't too bad. I managed to gibber something about liking ballet.

Meeting Nathan was embaressing. The first thing that popped out of my mouth was 'I think I'm going to faint'. I had a script I wanted him to sign and he asked where I had got it. I said 'it came in the post'.
