This is probably a fairly good idea. Since the beginning of the RP, pretty much no one except Wash has taken time to sleep... A couple of folks have snacked as they waited to do stuff in the galley, but mostly we haven't had a meal together since we started. (To think, in RP time, only about 1 1/2 days have elapsed!) Now that we're headed to the black, it's probably a good idea to eat and catch some rest, once the scene in the galley is over.

I agree--time for nice meal, and then for everyone to steal off the their bunks--Inara and Thorne have some things planned that need doing :)

Ahhh I'd love to see Wash and Zoe get all snug.

Question is: Do Wash and Zoe get all snug, or does Wash stay on the bridge while Mal gets some shut-eye? (Keep in mind Wash's long sleep after his halucination episode)

I have been re-reading the last couple of threads and I gotta say - there is a lot of good and creative stuff here. You guys are STONE. And shiny! I come home from work just excited to see the next "page" and where the story went. Too much fun.

Ciara: the Capn has not seen that one yet - I had it set up and ready to post when we went into the black. Yes, deliberate foreshadowing I also did not speak to him last night, so I don't have your information. If he don't call tonight, maybe I ping him.

Boomer: I have not been a Gunrunner long and am only a guest spot anyway, but do you include me in your kind gift offer? *hopefully*

Geezer: Oh yeah, don't give her time to detox in peace, just jump on with the questions. yeah, yeah I know your type. Well, I was expedting that and I hope you don't end up too disappointed.

Hey, all...sorry I've been outta the loop for the last couple of days. Family stuff and one mother of a headache have conspired against me. And today, of course, is St. Patrick's Day (cheers!), and my family always gets together down at the school where the elders went (Irish families, you know).

I'm on long enough to get caught up (teach me to miss a couple of days!), and maybe post a move for Kaylee. You guys need to slow down. Seriously. I'm not kidding.

Ok, I am kidding. And Mercedes, no problem at all! Email me your address and I'll make one for you, too! Hopefully I should be able to send them out this weekend, providing said family stuff doesn't mess with me too much.

Keep up the great writing, GunRunners and HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY!! (Time to get Blarney Stoned.)

Ok, a couple of points (after 45 minutes of catching up with the RP!):

Squee--Kaylee had no idea that anyone else was working on the cannon with you. Remember, when Mal told her to work on the engines over the comm, Damon was the only one mentioned. She had no idea about Merz until she went to the Bridge. As far as the animosity between them, I'll try and patch it up in the next couple of posts, if that would be amenable.

Hope no one minds that I included a minor "River moment" in my post. If memory serves, waaaayyyy back when, it seemed as if the crew was able to access certain areas of their brains (albeit when asleep) after having been in close proximity to River for so long. LOL...Anyone else remember that?

If Mal or any of the crew need Kaylee to stay in the galley, let me know & I'll edit.

Maniac: Boomer's actually talking about waaaaaaaayyyy at the beginning of the RP - back when Zachsmind was playing Wash (*sniff* - We miss you Zach!), and had lovely interesting things going on in a dreamscape, as well as having some interested daytime side effects.

Oh, and I just wanted to say that Zoe's not sleepin' over there. I intend to have her take the data stick off the table, and take it to Kaylee. I just don't have time to post the move right now... Will do it a bit later.

Astriana

Consider Zoe responded to.

This has been an interesting experience for a first-timer. I had always though of roleplay in terms of the D&D type with dice rolls and Dungeon masters, etc. This communal storytelling is more my cup of tea. I'm not sure if what we're doing is atypical, or if I just had a limited picture of the RP universe.

I join in the praise for our group writing. The laser install and escape from Hera reads very well. More fun to come, since I'm hoping we'll have a couple of days, RP time, to interact without too much external disturbance. Hardly had time to draw breath so far.

This is the second RP that I've played, though it's my first message board. My first RP was live time and a completely different ball park. The the biggest differences that stand out in my mind are the speed, style of writing and a rule that doesn't apply to message boarding: no playing other peoples characters.

If anyone is interested, I can send them a piece of my first RP so you can see what it's like.

OK, well that was a little off topic. I'm off to read and post.

It's the weekend, Maniac - We tend to slow down a bit, then rev up again during the week. It should be the other way around, I know, but that's how it is.

I for one, was out of town until just this evening. Went to see the folks and family and celebrate a couple of birthdays - "baby" brother is 34 on Tuesday and Mom turned 75 two weeks ago today.

And now that I'm back, I'd like to get the nine-ball game started. I know you're a fan, and I imagine you've played it once or twice. I've never actually played nine-ball, but I have played a lot of pool and I looked up the nine-ball rules. So I think I'm ready to go.

Just remember, Channain, slop does NOT count in the game of 9-ball. And if you manage to sink the 9 on the break, you win (unlike 8-ball...).

no worries, Boomer - I was taught no-slop. To my mind, slop never counts. That's why Rowan always announces her shots. I've since learned that you don't necessarily have to shoot the nine balls in numerical order - you can make any shot on the table so long as the lowest number on the table is the first ball that the cue ball strikes.

I would have to say that in the case of Shephard Book, if Rowan wants to keep the preacher playing, she'll allow for some slop. On the professional level, however, I don't believe slop is allowed.

Slop is hitting a ball into a pocket by chance and getting to continue hitting because of it. I believe, even in pro 9 ball, that if you strike the object ball first, it doesn't matter what happens to the initial object ball, as long as you pocket a ball. So, you could say, smack the one ball and it could fly around the table and knock in a different ball and you would still get to go again. Does this sound familiar to anybody else, or am I just a crazy maniac? Was that redundant?

Okay - been doing a bit of review. According to the World Standardized rules, 9-ball players are not required to call a shot like they have to in 8-ball.

Hey Maniac - I asked around and it seems the pool game is slowing things down a bit. Much as I'd like to keep going, we probably need to continue the Book/Rowan encounter another time, or another way. Might be good for Book to ruminate on Rowan's dream awhile, maybe catch some shut-eye? I dunno - your call.

FYI: as a refresher: the Song of Solomon used in Rowan's Dream:

Xiang: "Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned."

Rowan: "By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him but did not find him. 'I will rise now,' I said, 'And go about the city. In the streets and in the squares I will seek the one I love.' I sought him but did not find him. The watchmen who go about the city found me; I said 'Have you seen the one I love?'

"Scarcely had I passed by them, when I found the one I love. I held him and would not let him go."

Lyrics: RU:
"Standing firm on this stony ground…The wind blows hard, pulls these clothes around…I harbour all the same worries as most - the temptations to leave or to give up the ghost"

"I wrestle with an outlook on life that shifts between darkness and shadowy light. I struggle with words for fear that they'll hear, but Orpheus sleeps on his back still dead to the world."

Xiang:
"I opened up the pathway of the heart. The flowers died embittered from the start. That night I crossed the bridge of sighs and I surrendered"

"I looked back and glimpsed the outline of a boy. His life of sorrows now collapsing into joy, and tonight the stars are all aligned and I surrender. My mother cries beneath a southern sky and I surrender."

"Recording angels and the poets of the night bring back the trophies of the battles that we fight. Searchlights fill the open skies and I surrender."

"Outrageous cries of love have called me back. Derailed the trains of thought, demolished wayward tracks. You tell me I've no need to wonder why I just surrender."

I think I added this part, but I don't recall.

"I stand too close to see the sleight of hand
How she found this child inside the frightened man
Tonight I'm learning how to fly and I surrender"

In that vein -

EDIT
Teela, I LOVE the dream sequance!

We need to get together and discuss the River'isms needed for the mini-serises at some point.

Well, not to mention the strange actions of Simon and how it is affecting River.

Another note/question
To all: How did the interlude 'play' to you?

In addition, I will be sending, via email, the message that Simon made to your respective characters. This is so you may use it as flashback materieal or even in a dream sequance.

Although, it seems like most of you have already seen the direction I was heading and BRILLIANTLY added it into your respective posts while I was MIA.

Thanks!

UPCOMING ACTIVITY ALERT AND SUGGESTION SOLICITATION

It's not too soon, I think, to start planning what's going to happen when Serenity and crew get to New Hokkaido. All that's sketched out now is that Thorne's cargo is being delivered to some of the crew from Capn Rahn's Dragonfly, and that there needs to be a big gunfight.

Things we need to know:

- Where's the transfer take place? In town? Out in the wild? Somewheres else? Needs to be on a planet though. We already had space battles.

- How is the delivery to take place? Ship to ship? conex on ground hauler? Unload and strap on a mule train? Magic carpet?

- Who's going to be the baddies in the shootout? Alliance? Reavers? Klingons? Common garden-variety thieves? Badger and his minions? Niska and his minions? A combination?

- Does anyone want to get off at New Hokkaido?

As usual, just put suggestions here in the OOC so we can discuss, then I'll decide, and y'all will go ahead and do whatever you want anyway. (like herding cats, this bunch.)

OK, here is one from right off the top of me head.

A very quick (as possible) conex drop and camo drape on the moon of New Hokkido. Along with a nasty hidden surprise - a sniper party to disenchant any potental Aladdan wannabes. Jayne and Book may be a good choice to lead up this mini-mission of a sniping party.

The Serenity and most of the crew moves the port city of Tomokomai (A random city name I grabbed from the real Hokkidio).

Next would be a greet and goody location swap at some local busy open air or tented gathering place with the contact (Chimera crew). Something like a market or arcade - or even a faire. Yes, Boomer - that was directed in yer direction, lol.

Back at the Conex Sniper party, our snipers run into, not Aladdan wannabes, but a group of 40 Theives wannabes.

Are they Reavers? Or is it just a bunch of low rent gimboyds (read: twits, nutters, incompentant goobers) that are looking for the 'big score' and putting on a farce (by dressing as Reavers) to scare any potential cranky owners of the stuff they wish to steal?

Only a firefight will tell...

Our Serentity group returns in time to join in the bullet-ridden mayhem.

EDIT
As to herding cats - it is best to have a open can of Seafood Delight and you have every bit of each purr-bucket's attention. With that little can in hand, you can herd 'em like lemmings!

Hello everyone.

I just finished a chat IM with both Deb and Squee.

Squee has some concerns on how I plan to run the next RP miniseries.

I would like to hear if there are any potential concerns from everyone else.

These are the ones I know of so far:

Squee - numerious, mostly concerning control of events outside of character devlopment.

Geezer - General length of the story and complexity and gaming style concerns. Ironed out, yes?

Channain - Xiang's personality - but I think we touched on that and achived the beginnings of a aggreement.

I have done a substantial amount of work on this and still have much more to do in order make the miniseries framework a fun thing for all, including myself.

I would hate to think it could be all tanked because of misunderstandings.

Feel free to email me at capnrahn@aol.com
