Wash wraps up his work on the bridge, insuring that they've escaped the planet's gravity and are on trajectory to the pickup point. He doublechecks the scanners and feels confident no past enemies are tailing them, then sets the autopilot. Then heads down to the infirmary.

Bumps into Shepherd Book. "Whoops sorry there Bible Man didn't see ya there! How goes it?"

Well everybody would have to agree if we moved to a new thread and I don't know how to insure that since we're not all online at the same time.

Others are fully within their rights to start a new thread and claim new characters. That'd be another problem though when you jump threads with the same group. The possibility of people who had been characters in one thread not being able to be that character in another.

Then there's the suggestion you made awhile ago, which was a valid one, where we use our profile to 'dress' the part. But what if I started posing as Book or Mal in a different thread? I can't have multiple profiles.

Having a game master is an option. That's not how things are working in this thread so far. There's been no real GM. Just whatever people want to do, the others go along with it. That way things are generally more character driven. If someone wants to be a game master, it'd probably work best if the group agreed to let that one person guide things, and the guide would then not claim any one character, but would instead attempt to represent other characters which are not presently being run at the time. A drawback of doing this in a thread like we have here, is that it means the game only runs when the guide is online. If the guide leaves, the game's on hiatus. A character driven system like this allows people to play regardless of any one person not being around. They just work around one another's absences. There's pros and cons to both approaches.

{That is sorta the beauty of it, you can play other character in other 'episodes'

Yeah, I noticed that the Avatar does change in the old threads and does pose a problem.

That is partially why I suggested the cast list in the very 1st post, it would help - in addition, if you saw me with my avatar other than Simon, you could be fairly sure that I am not participating on the RP at the moment ...

The guide - It does help as a guide can play the parts of the regular cast if a member is absent - but the Guide should play the absentee as minimally as possible, w/o making the character 'go to sleep or some other maguffin (a way of covering a 'plot hole'). The guide can also play any 'bad guy' that another member has not claimed.}

Is the one playing Book still online or should I just go to the infirmary? I dunno. I gotta head out soon too cuz I got work in the morning. If we're gonna wanna be more organized it may not be in our best interests to use this message board. Organized rp'ing tends to work better in IRC or email. This is more of an impromptu unorganized kinda thing. Silly but fun. My email addie is zachsmind@yahoo.com but I don't know how we can find a consensus for when we'll all be online at the same time cuz to get that we'd all have to be online at the same time. Not trying to be difficult. I just don't have the answers. =)

We can only try!

An IRC would be best, one that you could save the text - I think we would need a 'guide' there. In addition we could make the IDs the characters ... the guide's ID would be - well 'Guide' and have to add the characters name in their post when they act or speak for them.

I am a bit of a novice with IRC, so bear with me. I canna get the one here on FFFn to work, by either method suggested.

Meebe we could use the group chat features in either Aol Instant Messanger or MSN Messanger. Anybody can use either, no matter if you have an account with the companys. Just a thought!

Wash pats Book on the shoulder and then motions for Book to walk with him to the infirmary, "Yeah padre. I know what you mean. Our friendly neighborhood psycher-girl's got me a little freaked too, but we gotta put it in perspective. One. If she's really as smart as the doc says she is and as smart as she seems to be despite her being crazy? Then that means she's smart enough to have dusted all of us by now several times over. So since she hasn't turned us into reaver fodder yet, we can safely assume that she's not gonna. Unless we give her reason of course so we should be very nice to her. Ever heard of Billy Mummy in something called the Twilight Zone back on the Earth That Was? Well that's a bit before our time. Two. If Kaylee is right and River can take out three people with her eyes shut? Well I for one feel like she is not going to be prone to the accidental you know what I'm sayin'? I mean if she shoots one of us, it's gonna be cuz she meant to not cuz she doesn't know what a safety is. Granted, this doesn't make it easier for me to sleep at night, but still--"

Wash stops himself in mid stride. Then notices the two of them are now standing in front of the infirmary.

"Come to think of it, I haven't been sleeping very well recently. I hadn't connected the two before now. Thanks padre! I can't sleep cuz I'm afraid Tiny Dancer's gonna slit all our throats! Anyone ever tell you you'd make a good head shrinker, Shepherd?"

Wash turns to Simon with a big go-seh eating grin on his face. He knows Simon's overheard at least part of their conversation. "So Doc! Howzabout shooting me up with something that'll keep me awake and alert for the next-- well for so long as I live?"

I have however forgotten the addresses for them and do not have any copies of them on this computer.

Hi, y'all! Just wanted to say this is an absolute BLAST, very fun running through kind of an episode of FIREFLY. I like the idea of creating a new "episode" of the show by going off some avenues Joss put into the shows. I think rp is going pretty well, but not enough characters (could we double up temporarily?). Also, when we finish with turns, how should we let each other know who's turn is next? Too, when should we convene for gameplay? Should we decide game outline and parameters as well as if we want to play interpretations of characters? What I mean by this is, should the character interrelationships continue to grow and develop with continuity from one rp scenario to the next? I'm open to any ideas as what we're doing is basically just experimenting to get a feel for rp-ing on this thread.

All the crew members have been taken, but if you wanna be one of the supporting characters. One of the bad guys maybe. Maybe you'd wanna create an original character? We're just experimenting so we'll try to make whatever you come up with work.

Presently we're out in space but are supposed to eventually land on a planet and pick up some cargo. That'd be a place we could work ya into the story. There might be room for one more passenger if you can pay the price.

We won't need Badger for awhile, cuz we just left him and we have to go get his stash and then we have to take it somewhere and THEN we go back go get our money from him only to find out he ain't gonna pay us cuz he's a meanie. At which point Jayne will break both his legs. Then Wash'll say something pithy.

I mean if someone wants to be Badger they're welcome to take the character, but we won't be back at Persephone for awhile so if he says anything, we won't be able to hear him cuz in space they can only hear you play guitar. So...

Browncoats, I'm just kind of winging it. But once we arrive on Hara, we'll probably be meeting up will an unsavory intermediary to pick up the "inventory" from. At this point we could use a possible cast addition. Also, if anyone has plot twists, feel free to chime in! I was thinking of maybe taking on a passenger/stowaway. Would that interest anyone? To Mal, "Yeah I think maybe I can sleep now that, with the Shepherd's help, I consciously realize the irrational fear I've got that River's gonna slit all our throats while we sleep."

Wash turns to Simon, "she's not gonna slit all our throats while we sleep right? I mean, she would have by now if she was gonna. Right?" Then Wash looks at the red pill. "What's in this anyway? Is there a blue one that'll keep me awake?"

Wash listens for Simon's answer, then shrugs and heads for the quarters on the ship reserved for himself and his wife, Zoe Warren. He still looks like hell, and is movin' mighty slow, holding his head.

Point One
River cannot see into the future in the literal sense. She can extrapolate past and present events to predict the future from a pseudo scientific basis but she has no true clairovoyant powers. It's probable that her apparent telepathic powers function the same way. That she doesn't so much read a person's mind as she extrapolates what she knows and from that pieces together what the person is probably thinking at that moment in time. River's brain functions at an unnaturally accelerated rate. Things in the brain that are used to filter thought and separate thought from action and emotion have been removed. Her brain works more like a machine than a person, but she also has the feelings of a little girl, clinging for dear life to the madness that a greater knowledge represents.

Point Two
Whoever the guide is, they shouldn't be any one character, because they will represent any characters that are not presently already 'puppeted.' Then they have to be willing to give a character up to newcomers as they arrive to play the game. The main nine characters should always have some player representing them, separately from the guide, but that's just my opinion.

I figured the last time I saw you would be the LAST time I saw you! What with you floating off into the 'verse an all. How did that work out for you anyhow? Able to hold your breath quite a spell were you?" [Turns off audio and turns to Book] Says to Book:"Shep' would ya be good enough to wake Wash up and bring him up to speed?" [Looks at River] Says to River:"Ya surely do have a penchant for understatement mei mei. How do ya suppose that bounty hunter survived? I thought we fixed him six ways from Sunday!" END TURN.

Wash wakes up with a start, sitting up straight in the bed.

"Lewis Carroll! Watch your head! No River don't! River!"

He's got the shakes and is hyperventilating.

"River?" He looks around and realizes where he is. "Oh. Just a bad dream."

Wash rolls over in order to get out of bed and falls to the floor. Still a bit disoriented from the dream, he makes his way upright and manages to clean himself up and put on his clothes, including a particularly bright hawaiian shirt. Although come to think of it the poor boy wouldn't know Hawaii from Alaska. Especially now. His clothes are on inside out and his eyes are dialated. Apparently the red pill is still in his system. The bad dreams just didn't let him sleep it off. Wash manages to climb up the ladder and make his way out of he and Zoe's sleeping quarters.

"I'd better make my way back to the bridge." Wash says out loud with a weird grin on his face. "Gotta find Lewis' head."

..WASH'S MOVE

Considering the boy hasn't slept much in three days due to insomnia, is suffering a mild concussion (or two), has developed an irrational fear of River, and is strung up on a doozy of a pill granted him by Doctor Simon Tam, Wash is none the worse for wear. Clothes still on inside out, he appears to be mildly intoxicated with wild eyes and a cheshire smile, but otherwise functional.

"Steer?" Wash looks in Book's face as he's helped to the bridge. "I can steer. I'm good at steering. But we gotta go. We gotta find Lou's head."

Once on the bridge, Wash aquires tunnel vision, seeing nothing but his chair. He goes straight to it like a man on a mission, pushing anyone else or anything else out of his way. "My chair. I'll be safe in my chair. Yah. She can't get me there.."

Three habitual switch flicks above his right shoulder and Wash immediately begins the procedure of reconfiguring the navigational array, as if he were a pro, which he is. It takes seconds. It's something he can do in his sleep, which for all intents and purposes, he is. If it weren't for the fact that he's suffering from a waking nightmare, you'd think he actually knew what he was doing.

He glances up and looks out the viewport to the starry inky black. Raises a left forefinger briefly and counts stars, "one, two, third star to the left and straight on till morning.. and we're ready to go-" Then he glances to his right at the viewscreen and sees Niska & an impatient looking man whom he doesn't recognize.

"Oh, Hi Niska. How's tricks? --NISKA!?!?"

Wash slams on something which a 20th century observer might equate with an accelerator, only it's on the console and not at one's feet, and the ship has now abruptly changed course, heading towards that third star on the left thing.

Wash is now cursing in chinese rather breathlessly, and hyperventilating, as the ship careens hard to port with increasing speed.

OOC addon:

I do wish to point out that the hyperventilating is due to having just seen Niska, and not due to his piloting skills. Even in his present condition, actual piloting is something he can do with relative safety and discipline. Under normal circumstances he'd be a steely eyed missile man at the controls.

By the way.. Anyone gonna stop Wash? Cuz unless somebody comes along and just knocks him unconscious again, next stop is never never land or wonder land or disney land or God knows where.

Don't blame me I'm just as surprised as the rest of you.

"ZOE! Honey! Love of my life! Good to see your head's back. You had me worried. No time for kissy face though. We gotta save Lou!"

The ship lurches once again in response to Wash's movement at the controls and then stablizes at his will, heading straight for a star (which was 3rd star to the left but is now dead ahead) that's on the charts but no one's ever explored before, as it's a wee bit outside what's known as the outer rim.

Wash glances up to Zoe. "Y'want me to leave Lou behind? Lou saved me from River! He took a bullet for me, I can't let'm down!" Wash locks his steel blue with her chocolate eyes. Frighteningly serious. "Would you leave a friend behind, lover?"

Wash then looks back at Mal, and is suddenly puzzled. "How come everybody's got their heads back all the sudden?"

Ship hasn't changed trajectory or speed, but at least now it's not going any faster. Serenity is still heading outside the outer rim, towards a star no one's been to before, and might I add will be approaching what's widely considered to be Reaver space very shortly.

We're not quite there yet. Just getting close.

OOC: I thought Niska & Early had been on our bough? Aren't they in pursuit, or was their message from a greater distance and therefore not in real time?

[Turns to Zoe] Says to Zoe:"We don't have much of a choice as to jobs. If I had my druthers we'd never set foot on that rock again. But things bein' as they are, we need the coin! Soon as Wash gets us back on course, I want the Doc to give him something. Sleeping pills, warm milk, I don't care what, just so's he gets Wash to sleep awhile. Then, Zoe, you, me and Jayne need to figure on what we're gonna to do once we arrive on Hara."[Turns to Jayne] Says to Jayne:"We got a job to do like as not, I aim to do it! Might be that we're gonna be headin' into trouble on this run Jayne. How're we situated ammo-wise?"END TURN.

Inara continues up the stairs into the bridge, passing Sheperd Book on the way--Nihao, Sheperd, and how are you today? Is there anything amiss? The Sheperd keeps moving down the hall toward the infirmary, unhearing.

Well! perhaps it was just me...I'll just..she trails off as she reaches the bridge and notices Zoe and Wash, glaring at eachother...Wash with a bit of a glazed look about him.

She glances up at the viewport, and sees only the blankness of unfamiliar space. Ai ya! Am I missing something here, or are we a bit more off-course than usual?
