Yeah. I don't think anybody saw this pulling in more than SMB on opening weekend in the US.

Good for 'em, but I don't expect this thing to come anywhere close to SMB's final number over $1.35 Billion.

My $650 top-end prediction may have to be revisited after we see the 2nd weekend drop, but Minecraft beating Super Mario Bros would be insanity.

I've never seen it, but my brother always raved about it. Especially Raul Julia's casting. He knows its a bad movie night and when he used to have people over for Bad Movie Night parties it was one of the movies he did.

The one scene I know about is the Tuesday speech that is pretty famous. I do like that part, which is the only part of the movie I've seen.

What a great actor compared to the movie he was starring in.

I've always been a huge fan of the Super Mario Bros. movie they did around the same time. There was a certain charm to those 90's failures that you couldn't replicate in today's video game adaptation failures that are just objectively bad, and arguably purposefully so.

If "the future" is that Hollywood thinks that video game adaptation milking is it's next big 20 year cash cow, I'd forget about it.

Mindcraft likely did well because it had minimal influence from the suits and probably wasn't taken all that seriously despite the rather hefty budget (like all big movies, in a year when horror movies are now costing 50 to 90 Million to make, apparently).

Now we've got Super Mario and Minecraft being runaway successes when Disney can't put a hit out to literally save it's life. The suits are going to all want a piece of the video game franchise market.

They're going to try to make money at it, but whatever most of them touch is going to end up not only failing in theaters, (like Borderlands did), but could actively do brand damage and make games uncool to the kids, which is the worst thing they could possibly do. (Like they did with Star Wars, Marvel, DC, etc.)

At least with Borderlands it was never a hugely mainstream thing and since they haven't put out a decent game in about a decade and those fans mostly grew up and moved on, I don't think anybody really noticed it and no real brand damage was done. Put out another great Borderlands game and people will come back to play that and ignore that the movie was ever a thing that happened.

Star Wars was too big to fail, and now that it did you're not going to be able to bring it back to life. Especially not when the screwed up the one chance to have all of the main actors from the OG series on screen together and they wasted that opportunity on whatever they call that trash they put out. It could have been a moment that adults, particularly dads, shared with their kids with a great story wrapped up around it and you could have milked Star Wars for another generation.

Instead of that all we got was abuse from people who are now almost all unemployed, and covens of magical gay witches telling us that Jedis were Nazis.

Good Job, Disney. Well done.

Can't wait to see you screw up some video games now.

I'm only interested if they're made by companies in Japan.

Nobody wants to see Metroid ruined by Hollywood and their propaganda. They were just lobbying to force a dude as Zelda, and freaked out when they picked a good looking white girl for the role instead.

Strange that Metroid wasn't on this list. That game usually ranks among the top of these wishlists.

None of those games need movies. They were better than most movies as they were, in the media they were designed for.

Truth be told, I haven't played most of them, but that's only because I ducked out on the newer systems and the "always online" culture of new games. But I've played early games from 3 of those 7 IP's all the way through, and I was living with my brother while he was playing through at least one game from three of the others I didn't play myself. The only IP I haven't played or seen somebody play in person is Alan Wake, and at least the first game from that series has a reputation that precedes itself.

Hell... My first personal contact with Metal Gear Solid was the original Metal Gear on Nintendo, and Snake's Revenge a few years later. Back in the early 90's is when I played them, but they probably came out in the late 80's before I got them. The last game I played in that series was on the OG Playstation and probably came out before whoever wrote this article was born.

Unless you're going to come out and bring something to the screen at least as good as season 1 of the Fallout streaming show was for any of them, please don't even bother trying.

There is already such a long, long list if movie and streaming TV show video game failures out there already. And what's worse is all the failures in the last 5 years are so cynically and Hollywood-typically cash-grabby that you can't even enjoy any of them when they're bad, like you could the ones coming out back in the 90's and early to mid 2000's.

Please learn your lessons from Star Wars and Marvel/DC. Or you're just going to burn the excitement for Movie/TV adaptations of games to the ground in 10 years like you do everything else. I think in this culture today I'd only give you a year or two before you kill it.

Prove me wrong.

And don't even TOUCH the Souls/Bloodborne games. Unless Hidetaka Miyazaki has TOTAL AND COMPLETE CREATIVE CONTROL over the movie/show, you WILL ruin it. And I would NOT want to be on the other side of THAT fan base after you've DEI-ified everything and shit all over them. Don't even think about it.

Final Fantasy 8 (Liberi Fatali) is probably the oldest game on that list and that's about when I tuned out of games for 10 years. Everything else on this list looks to be PS4/XBox One or newer, and I haven't played any of those.

Glad that she likes it, but by the time we had the earliest game on his list, we had CD music and you could put full orchestral music on your games if you wanted to. While you get plenty of good music out of games after we started using CD/DVD and then made the switch to digital downloads, it's really not the same as pure Video Game music like we grew up with, IMO.

I'm more impressed with how people were able to code music into the early games before we could just record an orchestra or band playing something and put it in the game.

I've been playing the hell out of an old Arcade favorite called Rolling Thunder, and I'm trying to speedrun it. Maybe get myself a record. I forgot how awesome that soundtrack was.

Perfect spy thriller music here, and when it picks up to the "high" at 1:22 it really gets you pumped.

And even though I appreciate that he did a few From Software games, he didn't really hit any Indie games which is a shame because they've got some pretty AWESOME soundtracks too, especially considering their tiny, tiny budget compared to the AAA space.

I know I've posted this one in the Music II thread at some point, but they didn't have the (all 4 variations) version like they do now.

The "4 variations" is really cool, because they all play in the same area, but depending on whether or not your outside, or in a building or underground, the music changes on the fly between all 4 versions without missing a beat. My favorite version of this song is the one when you're outside and you hear the woman humming along with it. (Starting at 5:10, with another non-singing version in the middle, and picking back up with an alternate singing version at 15:29 which is probably the best one). When you go underground, it even has a sort of "muffled/echo" effect as if the instruments are kind of bouncing off the walls of the caves.

I think I like this song so much too, because it makes so much good use of silence and negative space... which then gets filled in somewhat by the woman humming and singing softly along with it in other versions, complementing it perfectly. Most video game music beats you over the head with, well "beats" constantly through the loop. This game is comfortable with being low key in certain areas, and saving more dramatic music for the harder areas and parts that call for drama.

Ender Lilies is an excellent game for anybody who likes Metroid/Castlevania (Metroidvania) style Action RPG games, and a really dark theme.

It's probably got 12 to 15 songs, and except for boss battles there are alternate versions of most of the songs for when you're up on the surface or deep underground.

There isn't a single bad song on this game's ST. This is probably my 2nd personal favorite...

I'm pretty sure a good deal of the people who went to see that movie didn't even know it was made after a video game.

You think Borderlands was released too late, Rampage puts it to shame. 10 year old me would have been stoked for a movie after seeing my first Rampage arcade machine at the roller rink when we had our annual skate day. 40 year old me had no interest. I don't imagine if I had any kids I'd be running to the theater with them over Rampage nostalgia either, even though I did play it quite a bit on the Atari and Nintendo.

I can't believe that somehow Mortal Kombat is a thing that people still care about at all in 2025.

Karl Urban being in there makes me think this one actually has a budget though, compared to the 90's movies. Probably not a good idea.

I would definitely put MK on the list of movies from those 10 that are going to be flops, and Karl Urban being just one name in an ensemble cast makes me confident in that prediction without even seeing the budget.

Looks like they're doing it 15 years after New Vegas, so at least there's that. They can't fuck up New Vegas' story directly.

There were 4 possible MAJOR endings to New Vegas. (There are hundreds of other possibilities that could play out, with many of them being tagged on to the end of the game in a slideshow with a narrator telling you the fate of smaller factions, towns and individuals based off of the player's actions in the game). This actually was one of the first times Todd got himself in hot water when he was telling people that New Vegas would have near infinite possibilities for the ending, but in reality there were really only 4 endings and you don't get to multiply the amount of slides you've got for minor players and tell people you've got literally tens of thousands of endings when we're talking about a mish-mash of superfluous crap, with much of it being the fate of people so incidental to the main story that a lot of people who only played the game once probably forgot about by the time the end credits were rolling.

The main four endings: Siding with NCR. Siding with The Legion. Siding with Mr. House. Or going rogue and letting the A.I. "Yes Man" take control. My usual playthrough ended with the Yes Man ending, even though that's arguably the darkest ending given the implications of Yes Man congratulating you when it's over, only to tell you that he's going to be gone for a while to remove some pesky code by giving himself an upgrade that will allow him more autonomy.

My problem with the factions vying for power, just as with the DEUS EX games is that they're all shit, and by the end of the game I pretty much hate all of them so I just let the A.I. have control.

(The above paragraph is Black Pilled in action, if JSF is reading this).

I wonder which one they're going to base the show off of, if any?

Personally, I don't want to see the Yes Man ending play out, and I think that would be a disastrous choice for the direction of the show. It practically wouldn't even be Fallout anymore, and it would turn into some futuristic si-fi dystopia story with a post-nuclear world backdrop.

Dr. House's ending could be interesting, and I think it would probably be the best choice for the show to use as a jumping off point. He's just one guy. But he's one guy who's body has been in cryosleep for centuries while his brain kept plotting and amassing power for his eventual takeover of the world in a vision he has for everyone. And if he won in New Vegas, he's got an army of deadly robots who are able to build more deadly robots.

I think either NCR or The Legion winning as their start would make the show far too political, which I don't think any of us need any more of in 2025. And knowing that even though the show has been good so far, I suspect there are still a LOT of people over at Amazon who would LOVE to push their agenda with either one of those outcomes. ESPECIALLY if it's The Legion. They'll probably turn Season 2 / New Vegas into The Handmaid's Tale if they go that route.

I'd say that it's pretty obvious that The Brotherhood of Steel wasn't killed off and/or completely bombed out in this version of Fallout since they played such a relevant part of season 1. Because of their secretive nature and their desire not to share the tech they find and evolve with anyone else for any reason, they've never been more than a side-story in any Fallout game before, holding themselves back from ever becoming a major player. This weakness of theirs in the universe gives the show runners a lot of rope to either hang something amazing or hang themselves with.

* Incidentally, the single game in the entire franchise that was literally called "Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel" is considered by probably every fan of Fallout to be without a doubt the worst entry in the series, as the makers of that game hung themselves with their freedo

I've watched about 3 1/2 episodes of Season 2 of Fallout so far, and I'm pleased with it. Unless they do something awful, I don't see what the online complaints have been about.

My one gripe so far would be that they're playing a little fast and loose with the timeline of events. I mean, I've been a fan of the series since it first started in the late 90's, but I'm no Fallout Historian. I couldn't name exact dates and years that events happened in that universe like some of these YouTubers complaining about the show likely could. But having Mr. House still be in the equation after The Strip was trashed and taken over by Deathclaws doesn't really make much sense, no matter what the year is.

But that's the thing about TV shows... If you're going to make one that appeals to non-gameplayers as well as long time fans of the game, especially when every game in the series had so many different possible endings that only line up with other games in the series if somebody behind the making of them declares only one of the possible endings as true canon, you're going to have to make some changes.

I love that "Victor" the Securitron robot as well as some other Securitrons have made an appearance in the show. And I love that they've been shown as being extremely buggy and damaged too, which is the only explanation for the fall of The Strip. If they were going to follow Mr. House in the show, post Fallout New Vegas, there would be thousands of upgraded Securitrons roaming around everywhere. There would be no deathclaws. There would be no NCR presence in the area. The Legion would have been squashed, and the Brotherhood of Steel would have also been eliminated. In other words, there would be no Season 2.

I dunno...

I think if there is any mistake that they made here, it's that they didn't go with a completely new story that took place somewhere else in America and/or at a much different time, like most of the games that came before the show have done. By choosing to make the setting of Season 2 in the very familiar setting of New Vegas and the surrounding desert settlements, they've really put themselves in a bad position with longtime fans if they don't deliver on canon.

That being said, I think they did an AMAZING job bringing the setting of the game to real life. Even though it's falling apart and only half of the lights on the strip are even working anymore in Season 2, the Strip itself looks Amazing. Somebody really put some love into creating these set pieces, just like they did in the 1st season.

So far, nearly halfway into Season 2, I can't find much to complain about.

I think some people just want to complain all the time. And I think that a lot of YouTubers just need to keep that ad revenue coming in so they'll pick the low-hanging fruit whenever they get an opportunity to do so.

I'll update this when I finish Season 2, but if anybody here enjoyed the first season, whether you were a fan of the game series or not, I don't think you'll find anything not to enjoy with the second season, and I would recommend tuning out the noise and just watching it for yourself.

Just watched the rest of it tonight. I'm very pleased, and looking forward to Season 3.

Let's just say that I'm going to be extremely disappointed if we don't get to hear the voice of Malcom McDowell as President John Henry Eden next year. He's 83 years old now, but I hope he's got it in him to do it for the fans.

Those YouTube whiners better not ruin this for us. At least it looks like Season 3 was confirmed and they might have already begun production.

As far as YouTube commentators go, the only "big" name that I saw complaining about season 2 was from ItsAGundam. I didn't watch his video but I think it was titled "Watching Season 2 of Fallout will make you wish for a Nuclear Winter" or something close to that.

Any of the other channels that have popped up in my feed complaining about the show were no-name channels. I'm thinking mostly that's because there's literally nothing woke in the show at all, unless the androgynous friend of Maximus in the Brotherhood of Steel really gets under your skin (I honestly couldn't tell you if the actor/actress playing him/her is a man or a woman, honestly, although I'm leaning on it being male with the hair above the lip). And that character had such a bit part in the 2nd season they may as well have not even been in the show. They also never sexualize the character or force any agenda with them, and they are one of the only legitimately good people on the show so it's kind of hard to hate on them for looking like a little sissy boy.

I guess maybe some people might have a problem with Lucy and Maximus kissing in the first season. But whatever... It's not as if there's many good people out there other than Lucy and Maximus in the wasteland, and I'm pretty sure if memory serves that the one tall, handsome white dude that wasn't a total piece of shit in the show that was into Lucy was her cousin from the vault and she just wasn't into him like that.

If the show were trash, you've have Desparu and The Critical Drinker shitting all over it too, and as far as I know neither of them have even made any mention of Fallout.

I usually don't get into any arguments on YouTube with anybody like I do here, but I've been trolling a bunch of whiners complaining that the show sucks. I completely disagree.

I don't know what my "perfect" version of a Fallout show would even look like, but so far I haven't even bothered asking myself that question. The 2nd season may have been a little weaker than the first season, for reasons I don't want to get into because I don't want to give any spoilers, but it was in no way bad or even a let down. It just went in some directions that I didn't expect it to go, and it added a storyline or two that wasn't a part of Fallout 3 or New Vegas.

But my view on it is why make a TV show that is a direct ripoff of one of the possible storylines from the games? Just play the game again if that's what you're looking for.

What I think is a real shame is that TV shows have gotten so expensive today that instead of having 20-24 episode seasons, we only get 6 or 8 episodes. And then we have to wait a year or two before the next season comes out. I can't hate on Fallout for spending too much money because the set pieces, costumes and special effects are so good, but with only 8 episodes it's over way too quickly and then we're stuck waiting until 2027 sometime for the next season to start.

A 2D chess Fallout show would probably be as unwatchable as real chess.

So far the events taking place were based off of the 3rd and 4th games (not including Fallout Tactics or Brotherhood of Steel). 3 and New Vegas were both 3D, and the sets they've used in the show, especially for the vaults and the New Vegas strip were amazing. The events of the back half of Fallout 3 are going to be front and center for season 3.

The dog has been a character in pretty much every fallout game. In New Vegas it was half robot with a dying human brain inside its head, owned by The King who is a leader of a gang of Elvis Prestley impersonators. You eventually have to get it a new brain later in the game when it gets sick. The dog's personality will permanently change depending on who's brain you give it.

Walton Goggins' ghoul character wasn't in any of the games. They made him up for the show. I'm sure they're considering the show canon since Todd Howard is pretty deeply involved with it, but the show is the first instance in the IP where we're seeing flashbacks and learning about people before the war started, so none of his family were in the games either. The only look back on pre-war events you usually got in the games was reading about things that happened on computer terminals or finding pre-war books and footage. I'm pretty sure most people who played the games skipped most of that reading, and it almost seems like they've made that kind of lore just for YouTubers to devote entire channels to lore of not only Fallout games, but Elder Scroll's games and Dark Souls games as well.

At least through new Vegas, I believe the only time you could play a ghoul character was in Brotherhood of Steel on XBox, which I think is the only game in the series not considered canon. It's possible you could play a ghoul in Fallout 4 or the online Fallout '76, but I haven't played either of those. There are ghoul characters you can recruit though, and plenty that you just interact with like any other NPC. The most famous one is probably Raul from New Vegas who was voiced by Danny Trejo.

One of the things I've always liked about Fallout was seeing how a parallel world that evolved technologically differently than we did. Like how they've figured out how to create all sorts of robots, including medical robots that can hover over the ground and install new human brains into half-robot dogs, but they never invented cell phones.

Here's hoping we visit Vault 108 in Season 3.

One of these days I will own a computer good enough to emulate Dark Souls 2/3, Bloodborne and Elden Ring. I've only played the first 2 of the games in the series and it's probably tied with Fallout as my favorite of all time.

Man... I can't believe Bloodborne turned 15 this year. God I'm old.

For real though... You just can't make a good Mortal Kombat movie.

As cool as it was when it first blew our minds in the arcades as kids, there isn't really much interesting story to work with. I felt the same thing when they were talking about making that Twisted Metal streaming show they put out and I never bothered watching. There are certain games that just aren't translatable to movies/tv without adding a ton of back story, and these are in that group.

This is what Mortal Kombat is good for...

Parody. It's good for parody.

But only if you have funny people who understand how parody works behind it, as Lowbrow Studios clearly does.

That's a weird case.

I saw Yellow Flash say it was woke trash. Then I see Critical Drinker do a 5 minute "Drinker Recommends" on it.

Financially, unless people turn around and see it more like happened with Obsession, this thing is going to lose a ton of money no matter how good or bad it was. It cost $10 more to make than The Tin-Man and Baby Kermit did, but it made $50 Million less on opening weekend.

Sure... it was a dumb show to sell toys to kids. But we loved it.

It doesn't look good, but I hope the movie doesn't fail after I saw Critical Drinker's take on it. I think it's a good gesture that at least some people are still willing to put out stuff that people actually want to see that doesn't preach lefty religion at them every second of the runtime.

As per a Deadline report, Sony Pictures and Story Kitchen have acquired the live-action feature rights to The Drifter. Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg will produce. Timothy I. Stevenson and Elena Sandoval are executive producers.

The Drifter movie will draw from Powerhoof’s pulp adventure about a wandering man caught in a deadly conspiracy. After witnessing a brutal murder, he is drowned by high-tech soldiers. He later wakes up and fights for survival as he uncovers a plot involving shadowy corporations and a dangerous obsession.

At first I was going to laugh and say it's telling that the 3 articles I saw about this mentioned Resident Evil at least twice if not three times before even saying the name of the game that would be getting a movie adaptation, but then I read on...

I dunno. If they do it right, this one could be good.

I haven't played a single AAA game since the PS2/XBOX 360 generation, but I've played a LOT of great Indie games since then. It's amazing what these individuals and small teams have been able to come up with, and I always love hearing stories how every year it seems like at least one Indie game out-sells all the crap that the big boys keep churning out.

I've never heard of the Drifter before. Maybe I need to play it. It's been a long time since I played a Point and Click Adventure.
