SpaceAnJL's musical meltdown

Saw the Rolling Stones on Tuesday. Awesome. Jagger ran about for two hours solid - my friend and I have a combined age that just about matches his, and we were knackered after dancing for two songs. I love that rock stuff - keep your Beyonce B*ll*cks and that MoBo S***. R&B is folks like Howlin' Wolf, not some skinny little dipsh*t that can't hit a note without warbling round the scale trying to find it. So I've had a refreshing few days off, and now I'm revving up for the next chapters. There may actually be something resembling a plot. Possibly proper science fiction. Been reading Neal Asher again - things could go...odd. On another point - I pm'd a writer whose work on this site I admire. Perhaps it was a little presumptuous of me, but I had hoped for some feedback. Just being ignored sucks.

Wrong kind of dial-up on the tracks

There may be a short delay between postings - tomorrow I am going to attempt to update my hamster-box for something with a broadband connection. It is taking soooo long to load at home that I can't stay in touch with folks. I am also finding that my e-mail notification and such is not happening. :crap: Whether that is my machine or the site, I don't know. But...apologies to folks for the delays. I have a plot - and it's mine, I tell you, all mine. I'm finding so many coincidences out there, that I'm gonna get me a little tin-foil hat, stop them readin' my thoughts. What can I say? Paranoia just means that you haven't caught them watching you yet.

Cold Comfort Mountain continues, honestly

My Firefly OVC is shipping from the States. It's actually faster than waiting for the UK edition. How mad is that? There is a disinct possibility of two chapters at once on the horizon - they are being drafted and edited, and I am trying to work out the natural break. Hopefully something will be posted tomorrow (Sunday UK time) Of course, if when the OVC arrives, I find I am on the wrong track, writing will cease.

It's Official! I am channeling the Jossverse!!

Got my Firefly OVC yesterday, got my Finding Serenity today. I nailed it. I got Jayne right, I got Mal right. I got the motivations. I got the cage imagery that Mercedes Lackey sees. I have absorbed the influences, read the books, seen the movies... In short, I feel that I am actually pursuing the vision in a way that would make Joss, well, kinda proud. So I'm going to continue on my own goofy little way. Sod anyone who can't be bothered to give me feedback - I feel vindicated and validated here. Even if I never see a penny from any of this, I am writing good, solid work with firm foundations and an informed slant. In short, gorramit, I can write like Whedon and Edlund and Minear and all those other wonderful folk that got paid to do it. So maybe one day someone is going to pay me for my stuff, too. There is nothing like a little modesty. And reading the above, that is certainly nothing like modesty. But hell with it - ain't like folks read and comment on this, now, is it? SpaceAnJL Breeder of mutant plot-bunnies since 2002...

Still flying. Everything's just shiny...

I got my OVC, 'Finding Serenity' and a copy of 'the Killer Angels' last week. So I got a little sidetracked. (see previous hysterical gloat) Plus, friends. With issues. (also see previous) However, in response to the e-mails I have received - there is another chapter being edited even as we speak. (type, whatever) Honestly, I'm kinda scared to open my mail, 'case I get one of the Captain's ears in a box or somethin'. Though if someone wanted to send me a gift-wrapped Jayne for my birthday... So, really, I'm sorry it is taking so long, but I wouldn't want to palm folks off with something shoddy. I want the results to be the kind of thing that Joss would like (or even say, 'pretend I wrote that, okay?') This is not my job, unfortunately. It's what I do in the hours around earning cashy money to pay my mortgage. (I am old and boring) I would like this to be my full-time occupation. It may be that when I have finished my FFfest (or it finishes with me) that I will go back to my original writing. But I will not leave people hanging in mid-fic. That's all kinds of bad-mannered. But if you figure that I average about 2,500 words a chapter at about one chapter a week (self-proofed and edited), and fit that around a full-time job, a social life with my husband, and running a house, you might see that I do reasonably well. Incidentally, I wrote most of 'Another Girl' whilst preparing for my wedding, and a couple of chapters by the pool on my honeymoon (husband is mostly understanding of these things, luckily). The crossover I started for the summer challenge has actually mutated, and will be a long fic in its own right. I just need to work out if it comes before or after Zen II. BTW - has anyone got the technical skills to link music files to fics? It would amuse me to actually put the soundtrack to AGAP on the fic. (You guys did notice the soundtrack, right? If not, check out the lyrics to the songs/chapter headings. It all makes a horrible kind of sense.)
