Ever increasing impatience
Tuesday, 05 July 2005 15:42:13

Not about Serenity, though. I've been a very good boy about waiting for it. Very little whining. No, my impatience involves my unborn son's complete unwillingness to leave the womb. My wife's due date is this Thursday. Everything we've been told so far - from doctors to family members with significant family history concerning pregnancy - led us to expect an early delivery. Which, I suppose, is still possible, since today is only Tuesday. However, when I think "early birth," I think about me - I was a month early. Both of my sisters were early. My wife is, as a doctor recently told us, "short." As in, she lacks height. She claims 5'1", but she ain't. She has no torso. OK, not NO torso - that would be odd. She has little room in her torso. Baby didn't have far to fall. In short, I want my baby. Above all, I want him (and my wife) to be happy and healthy and safe, but I'm getting antsy. I'll try to post a picture when he gets here. Assuming he's still a "he." In which case, I'll try to post a picture when SHE gets here. *** Speaking of the wife, something got me thinking about a really cute thing she did a while back. She had this really bad allergic reaction to some medication. OK, that's not the cute thing. She had some bad cold/sinus stuff going on, and she went to the doctor and got a prescription. This medicine made her itch like a mofo. Real bad - for several days, she could hardly sleep, had to take off from work, was literally about to go nuts with this itching that wouldn't stop for anything. Eventually, I had to call and bitch out the doctor until he found something to make it stop. Oh, the cute thing. After this, she took the bottle with the offending medicine and, rather than throwing it away in a fit of rage, wrote "BAD ITCHY" on it and put it back in the medicine cabinet. Not only cute, but smart. Gotta remember what that medicine was so she won't take it again. "BAD ITCHY" - that cracks me up. *** As you can see, my antsiness has kept me from getting a really good night's sleep for the last few days, and my sense of humor is bouncing all over the place.

... and now, for something completely different ...

Can't count the number of times people have told my wife and I how our lives are about to change with our new addition (STEVEthePIRATEjr - see image in Blue Sun Room for photo, posted 7-11-05). They're right, and I'm glad. I'm ready to have some fun with this little dude. Thanks to everyone for the kind words in response to the photo I posted. I came across a fantastic Wash-esque outfit recently, but it's a 6-12 month suit. It'll be a bit big on him by the time the BDM gets here, but it'll still be cute enough to post. Thanks again. Gotta work tomorrow, so I'm off to rest.

Hockey! And more ... but mostly, HOCKEY!
Friday, 22 July 2005 21:11:05

Hockey is back! WHOO! Set aside my personal thoughts on the lockout that took the 2004-05 season from us (both sides were wrong, there were no winners in this situation, the fans lost the most, etc. blah blah). I love hockey, and the NHL is back in business. Sweet smells are smelling a bit sweeter today. So, here's my recent timeline. Nearly two weeks ago: first child born. Also on it's own level of awesomeness. Ten weeks from today: Serenity. I'm guessing you've heard of it. The week after that: Hockey returns. Most notably for me, hockey returns to Nashville. Go Preds! Any locals that might be reading this, you can find me in Section 301, staring in stupor and admiration at the freaks in 303. (www.section303.com for the curious) What could make this better? You mean besides a winning lottery ticket (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease)? A better job. One that I actually enjoy, as opposed to the one I have now, one that I'm growing to despise. Guess I've always gotta complain about something. Still - in short, new baby, the BDM, hockey ... All is right with the world. Well, almost. Still need a new job. Anyone hiring?

New job! WOOHOO!

Actually, it's a job I've had before, enjoyed and probably shouldn't have given up. But, it gets me out of the one I'm disliking right now, so ... PARTY! How this relates to you (in my twisted, "me first" train of thought) - I'll have more time at work to post and work on fanfic! Don't lie. I know you've missed me. So, today and tomorrow is all I've got left at this job. It's the happiest I've ever been here.
