Years of arty indie films and massive block busters and cool tv shows

Comic book stuff probably peaked 2017, 2018 it starts to fall, you still have Thor Ragnarok, Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ...Logan a great movie!
Avengers Endgame might have been the start of the end

Will we have to go to Australia and Japan and China and New Zealand to get our fix of tv shows and movies?

Will there be a brightside to this, maybe the whole hollywood thing got too big and corrupted, maybe the smaller compnay can bounces back, smaller indie films from Hawaii, Texas, NYC and Florida and other states

2019 was a huge year Incredibles 2, the Joker, Frozen II, Alita Battle Angel, Spider-Man Far From Home the list of box office hits taking int hundreds of millions world wide went on and on.
From the US and comicbook land, the Marvel Cinematic Film franchise is worth 8 Billion, more than Potters, Bond, scifi Starwars series and others all combined
2019 was Massive year for Block Buster films, the final end to the Avengers franchise
Avengers made $858,000,000 + Domestic and International $1,939,427,000 +
DC was making a comeback in Aquaman and Wonder Woman ideas

then came Corona in 2020

and it was election year, Politics is everywhere, left vs right nonsense dividing America, the bvirus hits entertainment hard...suddenly its almost a ghost town
We still got to see tv shows American Gods, The Man in the High Castle, Alan Tudyk Resident Alien, "Chernobyl" docu drama, The Orville, The Mandalorian

It seems like the 90s or maybe the 1980s, its barron and dusty, shows come out glacially or at a trickle
they dont do 24 eps per season anymore

I'm amazed at how well the whole S.Korean tv and film industry is even though they stand next to powerhouse nations like Japan and China, their own film industry is incredibly strong and continues to grow

I actually never watched season 3. When I was actively watching TV, I usually waited until an entire season was out before I started it. But then they cancelled it and I was just done. Really, it may have been that cancellation that sparked my disinterest in TV shows altogether. Firefly was far from the first, and I'm sure Dark Matter wasn't the last.

I figured the show was safe. It was super low budget compared to Kill Joys. That's actually the reason that it survived for a season 3 while Sci-Fi was doing some restructuring and deciding what the lineup would look like that year. Maybe the actors contracts were up after season 3 and some of them were holding out for more money?

I absolutely loved the first two seasons. If you haven't gotten to the one where they do a Groundhog Day type time shift episode, you owe it to yourself to at least get that far with it. One of my favorite single TV episodes of all time, but I never get a chance to show it to anyone because I don't think it would be as good for somebody who hadn't watched the show from the beginning and gotten to know the characters first.

Well... I must have at least started season 3 before the announcement came out. (Sorry... my mind was a bit... foggy... back in 2015/2016).

I recently watched a show called Undone, created by Amazon.

I really enjoyed it.

I'm hoping they don't make a 3rd season. They certainly leave it open ended enough where they could put more at the end, but after a few days of digesting it I decided that unless they have something terribly important to add and a better way to end it, they shouldn't even make the attempt. The more I thought about the wrap up and looked back on the show the more I believe that this was not only the perfect ending to the show, but with a premise that could easily have trivialized EVERYTHING, it was the only ending that could be made that trivialized NOTHING.

I challenge the writers to prove me wrong about that, but only do it if you really mean it.

I don't want to say any more than that right now for fear of spoilers.

I had heard that Disney shelved this and wasn't going to release it. What were they thinking releasing this now? This is nothing but hard core brand damage to something that is already on life support at this point.

It's hated because nothing is earned. These characters face no diversity and just are magic because they are magic. They're also automatically the best at everything they do because melanin and/or because lack of penis.

That is their entire character arc in every movie. It doesn't matter what paintjob you give it when all you are doing is trotting out the same soulless empty vessel of Liberal Utopia Perfection to come on screen and talk down to the audience.

Think about it Jaynez... Outside of Spider-Man, can you name one superhero movie in the last decade that told the Hero's Journey without skipping all the adversity?

That goes for male characters too. (I genuinely don't know if they write the men just as badly too, because I don't watch any of this shit).

The Hero's Journey the way it was told in No Way Home was a masterclass in how you tell that story in a big-budget super release. Not only did they tell it, but then they finished off the movie by starting to tell it again in a completely different way and just leaving you wanting to see how they're going to tell it the next time. If I wasn't so sure that the next movie is going to be a huge disappointment, I would argue that I'm much more interested in seeing this next Hero's Journey than I was the one I enjoyed so much in No Way Home.

Yeah. It was cool seeing 3 spider-men and all the nostalgia surrounding the whole thing, but I wasn't praising any of that when I spoke about the movie. It was an awesome gimmick, but a gimmick nonetheless and, more importantly a gimmick they're never going to be able to pull off again. At least nowhere near the level of success of NWH.

It was the ending to that movie that got me, and I had nothing but praise for Hollywood sticking the landing like they did and not pussing out last minute with some magical mcguffin that set everything right in the last 5 minutes.

Actions have consequences. Even super-heroes make mistakes.

Peter's aunt is dead. His girlfriend, his best friend and everybody he knew don't have any idea who he is because he never really existed. Why not make a habit of it if you're going to make money doing it?

KPOP Demon Hunters looks like it's going to easily take 1st place for the weekend with $18 Million.

Now, even in a really shitty year for Hollywood like 2025 has turned out to be, there would have been plenty of weekends where it wouldn't have taken the top spot, but if Netflix wants to put stuff like this out during the first few months of the year, or right around now at the end of the summer blockbuster season, and maybe a month before the Christmas season when James Cameron is dropping Avatar 3, it has plenty of opportunity to put out more #1's if they have something competent and they time it right.

Is this the first time that Netflix made a movie that took #1 on the box office for the weekend? It might be.

I hear that Netflix usually doesn't give any numbers. They must be proud of this one.

You wouldn't have caught me dead at a Trekkie convention when I was younger. It was pure girl-repellent.

I remember going to ComicCon when I was a kid with my friend and his dad, and it was wall to wall tables of musty smelling comics in musty smelling comic book boxes owned by musty smelling virgins as far as the eye could see in the McCormick Place in Chicago.

There wasn't a single female in the entire building.

I've got to hand it to the big corps for temporarily broadening the appeal and bringing women in. I think it started when somebody got the bright idea to start paying hot young women to cosplay at these events, and eventually they turned Geek Culture cool...

But then they made the mistake of trying to appeal to everyone and they ruined their products. After they did that, they started attacking the original audience who grew up loving these things.

Now it appears, particularly in Comic Book Movies, Star Trek and Star Wars, that the "popular crowd" has moved on and the original audience doesn't exist anymore.

Oopsie.
