I'm in the scifi club at U of IL. What we do, or at least, what we did last year and will probably do this coming year, is to have random discussions as well as sitting around and watching tv shows and movies. Oh, and eating pizza. The pizza is key. :) Last year we watched FF, lots of Star Trek (all the incarnations, with an emphasis on TNG and DS9), Babylon 5, as well as almost all of Futurama and Family Guy (so it's not scifi, meh. it's good times :) ). We also dabbled in Dr. Who, Farscape, Stargate SG1, Red Dwarf, Brimstone, Clerks, Undergrads, MST3K, random 80s classics (lol, like Captain N) and prob a few others I can't think of right now. The thing is, I'm trying to put together a list of shows we can watch next semester, and I'm having trouble coming up with good either scifi/fantasy or cult shows. They don't wanna re-watch, so I feel like I'm running outta good material to draw from. (and we don't get the sci-fi channel, so we basically subsist on DVDs, downloads, and rentals) To get to the point of this post- could you guys recommend just good shows? Doesn't have to be strictly scifi/cult, tho that helps. I know a big one we haven't tried is X-Files, and I was also thinking of trying Cupid and maybe Alias (the Rembaldi thing's practically fantasy). Suggestions?

Well, the original Battlestar Galactica is not too bad. There was also a really stellar series called Blakes 7, a British series, that's reminiscent of Firefly in some ways. Look past the cheesey sets and effects to the wonderful characters. Past that, you could always watch Farscape, because I'm told it's actually quite good. There are some tolerable episodes of Andromeda out there, too, but they're tolerable at best. One show which would be difficult to get your hands on but well worth it is another short-lived Fox series (surprise, surprise) called Space Above and Beyond. Think Robert Heinlein meets television. Really good stuff. It used to come on Sci-Fi, so you might be able to wrangle some episodes on cassette. I'm not sure if they still show it or not. If not, the only way is bootlegs and they're typically kind of pricey. Oh, and speaking of Sci-Fi, you can always watch the Dune miniseries.

Nevermind, you said Farscape already, but all the other shows still stand. Oh, and though I was never a fan, there was a long running Highlander TV series as well, that would probably work. And, I'm not sure if you want to delve into Anime, but I'm sure there are some Anime shows out there that would work as well. I'm not a big fan, so I couldn't tell you which ones. You could of course always watch the Justice League cartoon, or Samurai Jack as well. Oh, and while we're on the subject of cartoons, you should throw in a few episodes of Johnen Vasquez's Invader Zim.

Yay for the Blakes7 recommendation--I agree that the two series have a lot in common, although the B7 characters dislike each other much more than the Firefly characters do, which adds extra point to the constant squabbling.

Do you guys have a VHS player, though? Because B7 is not available on US-format DVDs. Season 1 (out of 4) is available on a British DVD, but if you buy it for your multiregion player, make sure you get the later-issue disks that DON'T have extensive skipping because of a manufacturing problem.

There was a thread posted here not too long ago about essential Sci-Fi. There is a tremendous list of good stuff. Here is a list of some of my favorites:

Dark Star (cult classic)
Gattica (Must see)
Fifth Element (hi-larious)
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (BBC)

Anime has a tremendous impact in Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Here are a few recommendations:

LAST EXILE-Two vanship pilots (couriers), while delivering a package find themselves swept up in a grand epic. Excellent use of 2D and 3D GCI. Complex character motivations. Presented in 26 25 minute episodes. When viewed, it is more like a continuous movie 11 hours long. (Highly Recommended)
.HACK//SIGN-While playing an online adventure game, one player can't log off and return to reality. Interesting concept.
TENCHI MUYO-17 year old Tenchi, suddenly finds himself living with 5 alien women. Chaos ensues.
(hiliarious)
ARMITAGE OVA-Naomi Armitage, a living, breathing, thinking, feeling android cop, caught in the middle of human riots against androids and uncovers a conspiracy to murder third type androids.

John Doe and Witchblade have established cult followings. John Doe was cut after one season, Witchblade made it to season two. They are both rather dark though.

Track down the DVD set of The Prisoner immediately.... a surreal hippy-era sci-fi/psycho drama from Britain that is not to be missed.

The 80s BBC version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is low budget but fun.

Also, don't forget about Twin Peaks (sadly, the second season of which is not yet available on DVD in the States )

Cowboy Bebop is worthwhile and entertaining, though the movie may not make as much sense if you haven't seen the episodes.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Prisoner. And, you know, while it's more spy show than sci-fi, it did have some pretty fantastical elements to it, so the Avengers might be a decent choice too. It's definitely "genre" television. Get the Diana Rigg years though and forget the rest.

it may sound silly, but it could prove to be quite fun

pickup the childhood cartoons and anime. Many of them can be found on dvd, so you can rent or buy.

Robotech - i know I have an obession
Thundercats - thunde, thunder, thundercats
Aqua Teen Hunger Force - not childhood
The Tick - animated, on a side note, the live action can be bought on amazon w/Firefly for a discount

as far as movies, Spirited Away is very good and kinda trippy.

I don't know if it's on DVD or not, but Seven Days (UPN series) was kinda fun.

Cartoons: Samurai Jack -- Absolutely! Star Trek - the animated series from the 70's (ah, childhood memories...) and most definitely The Tick!!! If anyone knows where to get the animated eps PLEASE let me know! I have access to the live action ones (which are ok), but nothing surpassed the sheer strangeness of the animated ones. And if I'm not mistaken, wasn't the creator or producer of the animated series (Ben Edlund)the producer of Firefly as well? I know I did a double take the first time I saw that name at the beginning of a Firefly ep!

Movies: well, yeah, you gotta do all the 60's-70's stuff....Andromeda Strain (I actually use it in some of my classes I teach to talk about scene transitions and camera angles), Colossus: The Forbin Project (creepy, you'll never look at your computer the same way), and many others of their ilk...I'm assuming you HAVE done 2001 and 2010? If not, get thee to a video store!

I can personally attest that Gundam Wing is quite good. Make sure to see Endless Waltz (the movie) after the series though, since it contains spoilers on who lives and dies.

Evangelion is also good, but you'll need to either get the series episodes (ignore the Death & Rebirth DVD, as it's barely coherent), and see End of Eva only at the end. Done this way, it barely makes sense (expect to be trying to discuss it for weeks as your brains regenerate).

I'd also suggest InuYasha, as it has something for everyone. Romance (involving a vampire, no less), intrigue, action, ultra-violence, time-travel, shape-shifting, betrayal, a perverted Buddhist monk, an undead vampire/priestess/psycho-stalker, a time-travelling schoolgirl, a demon-slaying ninja girl, three badass demons (well, two demons and one half-demon), and Shippo, Myoga, Jaken, and Rin, who defy simple explanation.

well, glad to see others mentioned some interesting shows. I had actually forgotten about 7 days and Prey. Both were good from what I recall. But if you want some entertaining, rolling on the floor wetting yourself fun I highly recommend Invader Zim.
The first part is out now and i think a second part is coming out in Sept. I'm not sure how many episodes were made before Nickelodeon realized what they were showing and yanked it. Yeah it was on Nick', but never should have been. It was created by Jhonen Vasquez (sp?) who also created the comics Johnny The Homicidal Maniac, if that tells you anything. Really not for children. One ep. features Zim removing the internal organs of children and replacing them with other objects like a ruler, a cat, and a radiator.

That show made me track down A Midsummer Night's Dream and read it on my own. In high school. There will never be a better Titania than Kate Mulgrew, and Brent Spiner is the definitive Puck.

Okay, if you want to do this right, you have to lay the foundations, explore the history of scifi on film, because I'm willing to bet that there are tons of classic SF titles kids (and yeah, I'm probably old enough to be the father of most of your group) haven't seen these days, but are utterly basic to where scifi film has gone.

My personal hit list, all titles from before Star Wars:

King Kong (1933)- see the original, not the 1976 version, before Peter Jackson comes out with his remake.

Things to Come (1936)-- don't laugh at the togas and sandals, this was H.G.Wells best (and fairly prescient) guess as to the future.

Destination Moon (1950)-- written by Robert Heinlein (well, mostly).

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)-- my personal favorite of fifties scifi. Gets me every time.

When Worlds Collide (1951)-- Bonestell art and design, and a film that begs to be remade with CGI.

Forbidden Planet (1956)-- robots and monsters of the ID. Yow.

Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964)-- corny in places, but made with the best guesses at the time as to the actual Martian environment (okay, they were off a little bit).

2001 (1968)-- If anybody in your group hasn't seen this, whack them with a wet noodle, then tie them to a chair and show it.

Planet of the Apes (1968)-- Charlton Heston and the statue of Liberty.

The Omega Man (1971)-- More Charlton Heston, automatic weapons, fast cars, and zombies. 'Nuff said.

Silent Running (1972)-- R2D2's ancestors save the forests. Love the Joan Baez song.

Soylent Green (1973)-- an eco-disaster flick that didn't come true. Or, at least, not yet. Oh, and Charlton Heston again.

One thing about watching pre-Star Wars scifi-- you have to have a tolerance for cheesy matte paintings and rocket ship flames that drip toward the bottom of the frame. The special effects of these films were almost there merely to suggest what was happening. If you judge the effects by today's standards you'll miss the point.

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

OMG, yes!!! I must have been half asleep when I posted a list before to have left these 4 off! Silent Running is still one that just about rips my heart out, and the message of it (and that of The Day the Earth Stood Still) are so powerful. Omega Man is just great wild 70's stuff, and Soylent Green is simply a classic, if for nothing else, Edgar G. Robinson's role and Heston's classic ending lines.

Oh, and as far as anime-- I don't like most anime, but you can't pass up anything by Hayao Miyazaki-- the Shakespeare of Japanese animation. A good survey of his work would include "Kiki's Delivery Service", "My Neighbor Totoro", "Laputa: The Castle in the Sky", "Princess Mononoke", and "Spirited Away", the last of which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. I'm less enamored of his early animated "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind", but the manga of the same name is one of the greatest pieces of scifi graphic art in history.

Also, just for fun, you might want to check out the series "Urusei Yatsura", which has got to be one of the funniest animes I have ever seen, and is almost impossible to describe, except that it involves a high-school filled with super-beings, aliens, ghosts, deranged monks, Leopard tanks, and a jealous alien girl who is constantly putting the whammy on her feckless idiot of a would-be boyfriend. I'm not sure how much of the series has been dubbed or sub-titled for American audiences, but it's out there.

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr. comes out this summer - definitely SF, sort of! ;) And we all love the western angle, don't we?

If you're considering watching The Avengers, then The Wild Wild West is the same kind of cheeky gadget show with just a touch of SF, plus it's set out west, and the Season 1 DVD is coming out this summer. Do NOT go by what the movie was like - they have no similarities whatsoever besides the title!!!!!

The Andromeda Strain was incredibly nail-bitingly suspenseful. Book was Crichton's, directed by Wise.

Westworld - I think this was the first movie Crichton did himself and it's one of the best of the revolting robots genre.

The Brother From Another Planet. I know the title sounds cheesy but it has no relationship to blaxploitation flix. A moving, suspenseful, sometimes icky story about an alien who escapes from a totalitarian regime only to land on earth. The problem? He's black - and mute. But the runaway trackers are hi-larious!

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but how about BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. I have all four volumes of it on DVD, and I gotta tell ya. The hype about it is justified. It's been considered the kid's cartoon equivalent of THE SOPRANOS and also the best incarnation of Batman in ANY medium (comics, tv, movies, everything).

If you are into checking out the Batman animated series, should also get some Justice League Unlimited. Recently watched a few eps and found it to be on average just as good as the batman series. They have actually been adapting some of the better stories from the books, such as the Alan Moore Superman story "For the man who has everything". Good stuff

What about Taken it wasnt to bad and other people have said itbut Blade runner always blade runner, get bit drunk watch it and all of a sudden its full of the most incredible symbolgy on mans search for god so well worth it. Its a classic cant be beat.Oh yeah and a flim that i cant remember name where its a western theme park where people have gun battles with robots that always lose but one of them goes crazy its a classic(sorry can someone help with the name)hey what about comic films xmen ect expand the geekdom horizions.

The movie you're describing seems to be Westworld, which starred Yul Brenner, best known as Lurch in The Adams Family.

For those interested, the DCU tooniverse continuity goes something like this:

Batman: The Animated Series (the show that started it all).

It's mainly noteworthy for the chance to see Superman being an utter d*ck (when you meet someone who wears a mask, don't peak!) and for Joker's quip about "propulsion envy."

I'm a big fan of Batman Beyond, and consider the movie (Return of the Joker) to be a high point of American cartoons, featuring one of the best fight scenes in a franchise known for awesome fight scenes. Obviously, I'd recommend it, both for the animation and for the witty dialogue ("Good bad dog"). Of interest to Browncoats, the future Gotham has a number of Asian influences, up to and including a few bits of shuai Chinese slang.

Two that come to mind right off the bat is Quantum Leap and Sliders. Most of the people I know never even heard of Sliders but it was one of my favorite shows for a while. X-men is also considered Sci-fi even though about everyone's seen those by now, but X3 comes out next month so a good time to watch the other 2. Stargate was another good movie as well.

Hehehe Blakes 7. One of our Brits not too bad shows. Yeh I can see that it was similar to Firefly but a much cheaper budget. LOL. Another 2 cult Brit Shows you may be interested in are Space 1999 and UFO. They are Gerry Anderson, however no puppets here they are both live action and alot darker than his usual kiddy stuff. Also they both have killer theme tunes :)Oh yeh and of course RED DWARF and Spaced

The film is called Westworld. A Michael Crichton film. It stars Yul Brynner as the android gunslinger. His total dialogue consists of 'get this boy a bib' and 'Draw' .lol. It's about a Theme park in the future called Westworld, 1 of 3 (the other 2 are Medieval World and Roman World). The whole Theme park is inhabited by Androids who go berserk and start killing the humans and the creators are unable to shut them down. Brilliant film. So good The Simpsons have payed homage to it in more than 1 episode. The most noticeable is when the simpsons go to Itchy and Scratchy land and just like in Westworld all the robots go berserk. There was a follow up to it called Futureworld but it was never as good. I mentioned it in work the other day and I was disgusted to hear that nobody had heard of it. That's no surprise none of them have even heard of Serenity :( On the bottom of my Email signature I have 'Can't Stop the Signal'. My manager asked me what it meant. So I tryed to explain. In the end I had to remove it. He didn't ask me to but I knew he didn't approve :(

I think all the good series have been mentioned, but I'll plug Blake's 7 again. Avon was a sort of Jayne. Disruptive, treacherous, sell you out in a heartbeat, highly intelligent criminal mastermind (Ok, maybe a little divergence, there...), but cool and likeable. Servelan had probably the greatest haircut in Science Fiction. And she was hot.

Old Doctor Who. The Talons of Weng Chiang. Cracker. And it had Leela in it, being well 'ard. However, don't come whining to me about its non-PC-ness. I will accept criticism of the giant rat, though...

Comic Book heroes. Pretty badly served, apart from Batman and Spiderman. I thought Hellboy was great.

Werewolves. Dog Soldiers and Ginger Snaps are good variations. Dusk Till Dawn will leave you sorted for vampires and strippers.

Moving on to British (although not exclusively) stuff.

See if you can find a BBC series called Campion. Totally brilliant. 1920s Detective stories by Margery Allingham, who completely kicks Agatha Christie'a arse on every possible level, walks off, changes her mind and goes back to give her a real doing.

Tutti Frutti, if you can find it. 1980s Glasgwegian rockers. Funniest thing ever.

Amelie. Will make utter saps of all of you. And you won't mind a bit.

Invasion. Not the interminable boring contemporary one. This was a British effort a few years back. Really, really bleak.

Space Above and Beyond gets my vote. Pretty much perfect except for Vanson's lips. That could just be me, but collagen implants give me the shuddering horrors. And on a Marine...

The Avengers.

Adam Adamant. Your basic Edwardian adventurer frozen by arch-enemy. He thaws out in the swinging sixties.

Edge of Darkness. Top-notch conspiracy stuff with golf.

The Book Group.

Coupling. Learn lots about The Sock Gap and The Melty Man.

Green Wing and A Very Peculiar Practice. Off the wall medical dramas. Way, way off the wall. All the way over there. Almost out of sight. Here, you can borrow my binoculars if you want.

The Coen Brothers.

Christopher Guest's stuff.

And you'll surely be after watchin' every episode of Father Ted with a pot of tea. Go on. Go on go on go on go on.

There was discussion of shows like Arcane in other threads

I would say the first ep or so of 'Arcane' is pretty good but I'm not sure I will finish it but its sound and visuals are amazing. I hear its based on a game League of Legends which I don't really know other than its a battle game and you have people or animal people things, different characters that battle in a scifi fantasy setting...doesn't sound like much but they made it into a story. I read a French animation studio did all the sound effect and animation, it might have some American style or Japanese style influence, it has 'steampunk' elements but it is unique.

Some of them should be impossible to do wrong they already have shows, books, movies, video game and comicbook, literally paint by numbers and the script already wrote but Hollyweird will find a way to trash its original source material and force its weird politics?

With movie making and shows you might look at the original European French George Méliès Trip to the Moon or old tv shows like Flash Gordon to see how far it all progressed, xlassic tv like The Twilight Zone or the original Outer Limits or the original Star Trek series. Kubrick's 2001 is a classic. The big movie hits from the 70s to the 90s, StarWars, Aliens, Terminator, Jurassic Park, Solaris 1972 was one of the foreign movies that made it past Soviet censors.

There is the genre of French weirdness, Delicatessen a 1991 French post-apocalyptic black comedy elements of horror, surreal and absurd. Spielberg offers a happier take on Alien contact in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Arrival 2016 another good watch, the Japanese animation became popular with 'Anime' brand like 'Akira' and 'Ghost in the Shell', WALL-E 2008 American computer-animated Pixar movie is a great watch. John Carpenter's remake of The Thing? 1982 is a classic, an addition to many of the scifi horror great. You have movies like Blade Runner that were hated by critics and flopped at the box office to later become cult hits, 12 Monkeys could be another. Some fans liked David Lynch's Dune and movies fans say are under-rated like 'Edge of Tomorrow'.

We have the modern superhero scifi genre with movies like Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, Jon Favreau Marvel 'Ironman', James Mangold 'Logan' from the X-Men franchise. Superhero stuff has made it on tv with 'Heroes' and 'Daredevil'. With movies you could look at 'Dark City' or the William Gibson books before Wachowski tranny Brothers / Sisters who did the 'the Matrix'.

You have classic big sfyfy Channel Farscape and Battlestar. The Orville made a comedy out of StarTrek, the tv series Stargate has a number of spin-offs. Old classic scifi Babylon 5 is respected for its great writing, 'Fringe' a supernaturalish scifi Xfiles style show. There are many many ideas that are re-vamped and re-imagined for a modern audience, others like 'V' and 'Lost in Space' have been remade.

The series 'Mandalorian' had a lot of fans. There are a lot of people who enjoyed the indie shorts of 'Love, Death & Robots' there has been some hype about Night Sky and a Japanese style animated Cyberpunk Edgerunners, South Korean tv has come a long way with tv like 'Grid' or 'Glitch' or 'Squid Games' selling high in foreign countries, 'Halo' from a video game franchise got mixed reviews. I enjoyed the first Season of 'Dark Matter' keeps viewers guessing with its twists and turns, some like Resident Alien with Alan Tudyk from Firefly.

It's funny they mentioned Travelers. I was wondering if that was going to show up on that list. I wouldn't probably have thought that this morning, but on the 4th I was talking with one of my old friends and somehow we both ended up raving about Dark Matter. At some point he had asked me if I'd seen Travelers too. (I did, but only the 1st season before getting my dad and brother to watch it, but I never finished it since it was one of the many, many shows I was watching and quit cold turkey when I quit drinking).

Personally, I don't really see the parallels between the two shows other than they're both sci-fi, but it's been a long time. But it was enough for my buddy to bring it up, so there must be something to that list. On Fringe, I could see the box being part of a several-episode arc in a parallel universe.

It's cool my buddy was watching these shows. If he was ever into sci-fi when we were kids he never showed it. He's the guy who taught me to build my first computer back in the late 90s, so it really doesn't surprise me that he is. Just a shame to find that out in my mid-40s when we were hanging out since we were 10 years old.

His old man was a quiet, tough-guy ironworker foreman, so maybe he wasn't introduced to sci-fi when he was younger by his dad like I was. Or maybe he got enough crap for being "nerdy" and into tech from his old man as it was and didn't add a whole bunch of love for sci-fi on top of it while he was living at home. He did end up following in his dad's footsteps after all, when I was sure that he was going to have a life working in tech.

I have never really seen 'Fringe' I maybe seen part of maybe two unfinished episodes, maybe the start of one or the end part of another episode. It seemed ok, X-files like but maybe too long too many season to invest for me, it probably did not help that I began to dislike 'Lost' and J. J. Abrams was also co-creator of that show, for a while J J was everywhere even if you didnt want him liek JarJar in StarWars his style and his face would keep showing up, he would pop up in all places.

Travelers was another I quit, it just seemed like it would go on too long, I blame 'Lost' for me quitting tv shows when I feel they were wasting my time.

I don't blame you for not wanting to get into it. Getting into a show with 6 or 7 seasons would feel like homework to me.

I also don't blame you for not wanting to watch something JJ Abrams was involved in either. I used to think that it was Kurtzman who kept JJ on a leash here and made the show great despite JJ being involved, but maybe it was Roberto Orci who managed that. I haven't had any respect for Kurtzman after he did what he did to Star Trek.

This wasn't a show with a LOST ending. They did a great job wrapping it up. My old man loved this show and hated the last season, but when I saw the last season it was my favorite. When he told me he was watching it a 2nd time a few years back I told him to really try to have an open mind about that last season and he told me that I was right and the last season was his favorite after a 2nd watch. That first time he watched every episode weekly while it was on TV. Maybe binge watching it the 2nd time is what allowed him to appreciate that last season and it had nothing to do with my input.

Fringe is worth a watch for real if you can ever get over the length of the show and the fact that JJ and Kurtzman were involved.

Very strange how they now remake 90s X-men and 90s Batman...out of ideas.

I might give Pantheon a go, the animated feel and sound, its a better improvement.
there was a time when everything was looking the same drugged out drunken low effort 'Cal Art' and it is Not a good look the CalArt ...Thundercats reboot or ‘CalArts style’ StevenUniverse, Adventure Time, Rick and Morty, Fairly OddParents, Star vs the Forces of Evil, Gravity Falls, everything had these big round football looking heads but not current or funny like South Park, it all looked very same-sh or similar,
There are studios that keep there own look or style, Generator Rex, Sym-Bionic Titan, the Marvel DC stuff at least try to stay ahead of the Japanese.
There are those Matt Groening Simpsons Futurama guys who do their own thing 'Disenchantment' it got mixed ratings, maybe it is bad and it also seems like it came out 8 years too late after HBO Rome or Period pieces or Game of Thrones.

I understand why kids don't watch a lot of Western animtion, first 'The Message' is terrible the DEI and SJW political stuff, next issue is bad animation. So the young adults the kids have taste, they move to South Korean shows or anime Japan movies ....glad Patheon at least looks different, maybe it shares similar animation style to a mix of Japanese anime and 'Invincible' the whole 'Skybound North' or 'Amazon MGM Studios'

Yeah... that Ralph Bakshi was a strange case.

I'd never heard of him before, but I happened on Fritz the Cat very late one night in my early 20's and was kind of fascinated by it, simply because I'd never seen anything like it before. I can't say that I particularly liked it or anything, but I did end up renting it once to watch the whole thing after that.

I found out more about him from the internet and tried watching some of his other movies. They're pretty much unwatchable, IMO. I know he has a pretty sizable cult following, and I felt somewhere inside of me that I really should like his stuff, but man... I just can't. That Wizards movie was one of the worst animated things I ever saw and I didn't even finish it.

I'm going to give you another bite on Pantheon, since you seem so resistant to give it an opportunity. I really don't want to because I don't like spoilers.

I'll just say that ultimately it ends up having quite a bit in common with Dark Matter (2024), and I did not see that coming at all.

Eh... By 2007 the big studios were doing pretty good with voice acting.

I remember getting pissed off and airing it in here about Hollywood actors getting all of the best acting gigs for video games and pushing out regular voice actors, but in retrospect it's kind of hard to argue those results.

Mass Effect had Keith David, Seth Green, Lance Henrickson, Jennifer Hale and around 6 dozen other names I don't recognize.

Right around that same time Michael Ironside was voicing Snake in the Metal Gear games, and Malcolm McDowell was the "President" on Fallout 3.

It sure beat most of what we got in the PS2/XBox generation and smoked any voice acting from the PS1/N64 generation.

PlayStation 1: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Intro scene dialogue)

I have no stake in Mass Effect. My brother was a huge fan though. He'd be bummed if Amazon screws it up.

They did Fallout right so far though. There's still some hope.

If memory serves though, the makers of Mass Effect screwed up their own property with Mass Effect 3 and how they wrapped it up. During the first 2 games every choice you made counted and caused ripple effects throughout the universe, which all carried over from game to game with your save data and would alter where you started the next game from where they would start you if you skipped the prior game(s) and started with 2 or 3.

If I remember right, the problem was that almost none of it mattered or effected the ending of the series like it should have. There were a whole lot of promises being made about how many possible different endings that were available to you, but after 3 games they didn't deliver on any of it. I think there was something like 3 different endings, instead of the near limitless endings they were leading people to believe would be possible.
