My computer is knackered

Basically, my computer is knackered. It has been playing for a long time, but last night it gave up and died. There were lots of strange whirring and clunking sounds, then smoke started coming out of the back.Some one looked at it this morning and said the fan is broken. I tried to locate a new fan, but was advised they don't make replacement parts anymore (it's a very old computer).
I decided to get a new computer, so sat down and worked through the accounts. With the spare cash I have at the end of each month I should be able to buy one in 2008.
We got it working without the fan, but I was warned that it could overheat, fry the internal processor and burst into flames.
I am so fed up.

Take the back off the tower and place a small fan nearby that will blow over the circuts. It helps if you can't afford to get a new one now. Do Not Do This if you have cats. Or a pet that likes to mark things. It is not a great cure but it helps.

Thanks. Shouldn't be a problem for much longer cos I have tracked down a company that still stock the fan.
