6ixStringJack: After years upon years of politicians talking endlessly while doing nothing, we've finally got some real happenings with meaningful long-term consequences going on all around the world to talk about and the site dies at the same time. Ain't that life?
6ixStringJack: So much stuff going on this week, all over the world. Chaos in Iran with protests and the government shutting down their internet. Lots of people dying on both sides in the streets there right now. Trump did not mince words or stutter when he said we're taking Greenland one way or another. 5 tankers taken now, with one of them painting the Russian flag on it mid voyage, and Putin demanding its return. House passes bill for a 1 year extension on Obamacare subsidies, but it likely wouldn't ever pass the Senate in its current form. Liberal white women are now taking their toddlers and babies to anti-ICE rallies to use their own children as human meat shields because they're brainwashed lunatics. Wow.
6ixStringJack: Maybe we could just "fix" the site enough that we just start off with empty forums again? That would ruin Jaynez's day for sure with nothing to necropost, and we'd loose all of that juicy history of all my correct predictions versus everything that Ted and Second have ever said will happen that never does, but I'm sure it wouldn't be long until we can build up a new history here.
6ixStringJack: I wonder what Second and Ted are up to today. They had to have signed up for Reddit and BlueSky accounts at least. I can't imagine they've been able to go 3 days without arguing politics with somebody online without going mad.
6ixStringJack: I wonder what Second and Ted are up to today. They had to have signed up for Reddit and BlueSky accounts at least. I can't imagine they've been able to go 3 days without arguing politics with somebody online without going mad.
6ixStringJack: If you think this is complicated, you should have seen what the back of a PC looked like in the 90's when every single thing you plugged in had a different plug/socket. There's a reason why everyone has a computer today and they didn't back in the 90's, and it wasn't just the price.
6ixStringJack: Oh, and yes. I would imagine that you have at least 2 USB ports on the front of your PC, and probably something like 4 to 6 of them in the back. In the back is the best place for things like keyboards, mice, wi-fi adaptors, and USB cables meant for external hard drives and cell phone charging. Things you aren't likely to pull out all that much. The front is great for things like thumbsticks and joysticks for video games and easy to access. Not that you need to worry about it because your files are small, but if you notice that any of the USB ports have a BLUE color to them, this means that they are "high speed" USB 3.0 and will transfer data quite a bit faster than ones that aren't blue. There's no difference in your case though, so don't be worried about which one you stick it in if there is a choice.
6ixStringJack: I never really took that seriously years ago because it was never a problem. Until the one time that it was, and I had corrupted most of the data I had on a stick by not ejecting it. Probably 99 times out of 100 you're not going to damage any files by pulling the stick without ejecting it first, but there could be that one time where something was hanging out in limbo when you pull it and now you're stuck with corrupted data on a thumbstick you have to reformat and use from scratch. Just make sure you power the machine down before pulling the stick if you can't figure out the eject process from the article.
6ixStringJack: Great. Don't forget that step at the end to "eject" the USB drive. Most modern computers this isn't an issue, but I don't know how old yours is and I know you're not using Windows 11, so it could be an issue. If you don't understand the "eject" process from the article and it would be hard to explain online, you can just wait until you power down your PC to pull the stick out without any problems. You just don't want to pull it out without ejecting if your computer is set for "write caching" enabled. "Ejecting" the drive/thumbstick makes sure all files are closed and you won't have any data corruption when you pull the stick. But shutting down the PC will make it safe to pull out no matter what.
Brenda: Yeah, now that I have all the info it should be easy. Just have to do it on a day when I can give it all my attention so I don't mess up. Also have to see and remember where the USB ports are on the case. There should be two in the front. Will double check that.
6ixStringJack: Yeah. You can just copy your files directly to the thumbdrive for now, just to make sure that they're backed up. If you get more comfortable with files and folders down the road, you can make folders to organize stuff. Like you can have your book and all your book notes in one folder, and any pictures from your emails in a separate folder just so everything doesn't get all jumbled up on you. Good stuff to know if you end up having a lot of files. But for right now, you should just plug that baby in and copy over your book to start just so you know it's safe.
Brenda: Little white lie. I looked at the link and wrote down the title of it and I will get things backed now that I know how. Sorry for that.
6ixStringJack: Hey Ted... BTW... Trump's Approval/Disapproval spread is now at least 3 points better than Biden's in his only term on this day, and both Obama and GWB's in their 2nd terms on this day in the aggregate. I figured I'd leave you with that little update in case it's the last thing you ever hear from me.
6ixStringJack: You did it! You were able to back up your stuff on the drive too???
Brenda: Thanks for the link again SIX. Got it all straight. Also thanks for the help.
6ixStringJack: Shut the fuck up, Ted.
THG: Stop, give Haken a chance to fix the site.
6ixStringJack: Oh... to Bookmark it, you need to open it in a new tab or window and hold CTRL and press D with it in the current tab/window. If you hold CTRL D here, you will bookmark fireflyfans instead.
6ixStringJack: Here it is again so it doesn't age off: [go to link] You can bookmark it in your browser by holding down the CTRL button to the left of the spacebar and press D. Or you can right click the link, select "Copy Link" from the pop-up menu and then paste the link into a word document by either pressing and holding CTRL and pressing V, or by right clicking the mouse anywhere and selecting "Paste" from the menu that appears.
Brenda: No, I didn't get to the link too day. Haven't played morning mah jong in a while then I had to tromp down to cardiologist's office to make appointment for stress test. Fell a sleep too in chair. And I'm not sure about saving links.
