Very informative article with some good research. The author does make some supposition in part 3, but the drug use information does check out. Long story short, Arizona watermelon iced tea and skittles are two of three ingredients to make "lean", an intoxicating beverage. Martin's autopsy shows physical conditions consistent with long term lean use.

Please read all 3 parts before you comment.

Okay, I read it all. Much of it sounds convincing, especially:
Quote:

When he saw Zimmerman he began the conversation by saying “hey man, what the f**k’s your problem, what the f**k you looking at”?
Zimmerman responded tennatively, somewhat fearful, somewhat like an “uh-oh” reaction, blew off the initial confrontation from Trayvon, and reached for his phone again to call the police.
Frustrated and feeling profiled for no-good-reason, (mindset “what you wanna call the cops on me for”?… this busy body Zimmerman is bringing grief for nothing. He should mind his own damn businesss.) In his mind, and in actuality, Trayvon was no threat to anyone. This dude calling the cops on him just pissed him off. Part anger mixed with a high dose of frustration.
It went downhill from there.

This theoretical description sounds close.
Still, if Zimmerman was NOT following him, nothing would have happened.
If Zimmerman WAS NOT ARMED, he would have suffered cuts & bruises that he could have sued over later.
I never maintained that Martin was an 'innocent', just that he didn't need to wind up dead because Zimmerman found nothing good to watch on TV that night.

Unless there is more in the medical examiner’s report the article does not match the facts known. The only thing said to have been found in Martin's system was THC and at very low levels.

I wasn't referring to the toxicology report. I was actually referring to the part of the autopsy report where they described the condition of Martin's liver. Not conclusive, but it could point to extended use of lean.

On the whole, I kinda agree.

I don't think there NEEDED to be a physical altercation or a firearm discharge. It was all a terrible turn of events, that resulted in the unnecessary and tragic loss of life.

And so what? I don't get the significance... lean, bad day, general life frustration, break up with girlfriend, what's the difference?

Flow chart says that cause A was Zimmerman.
What? Don't follow drug addicted nuts with a gun, is that it? How about don't follow ANY people with a gun...? Professionals are paid to do that.

I think the speculation was that , due to excessive, prolonged drug use, Trayvon was edgier and more aggressive than he probably would have been otherwise. That aggression lead the the fight, which lead to Zimmerman using a gun ( justified or no ) in self defense.

Sure, it's speculation, but it also paints a portrait of Trayvon not being presented by the media.

It could, but it could also point to nothing at all. Mild fatty metamorphosis is not uncommon. The report did not indicate any abnormality in this. It's conjecture at best.

I'm on record here saying that Martin was a dope for getting physical. I don't particularly care if it was substance-assisted or not; stupid is stupid, how you arrive at stupid isn't my concern. Zimmerman was stupid, and that was pure him.

Also, the propensity for a young male, so fascinated in MMA videos, may have helped formed the psyche of Trayvon seeking a violent solution to being 'hassled' by Zimmerman. Males that age tend to be wound up as is, w/ out the added issues of a broken home, drug use and immersion into underground fight videos. Kids his age go through phases, and it's likely he was just 'acting out' on the particular phase he was going through.

I don't buy it. So he had a couple of things that *COULD* be used to make "lean" or "purple drank" - there's still no signs that he had access to codeine cough syrup, the active ingredient, or to promethazine, the other common prescription-only drug found in lean.

This is like saying that someone with ice cubes and Coca-Cola is an alcoholic, because those are two of the ingredients in a rum and coke. Without the main ingredient, you've got nothing.

Or, to put it more bluntly, Zimmerman had the main ingredient used by people who go on shooting sprees; does that mean he was going on a shooting spree? There actually is more evidence to support that outrageous claim, because Z actually did shoot and kill somebody, and it's not been shown that Trayvon ever used lean.

This "lean" is even a real thing? When I read it I had to confess skepticism that a black kid is being accused of distilling some sort of alcohol or drug from watermelons. It sounds like a bad joke about racial stereotypes, where the punchline is something about fried chicken.

EDIT: after looking this up on wikipedia, it appears there is a drink called lean, which does involve candy to change the colours, but it's based on cough syrup with painkillers. Not watermelon. I think the watermelon thing might call the veracity of the posted article into question.

I confess I found the article less than convincing as well. We're given no name or account information in the screenshots, no confirmation on any of the pictures, and encouraged to believe that this is in fact this kid's actual accounts. Not to mention I don't quite understand the need to drag some dead kid through the mud, which makes me question the website itself. Lastly, photoshop is impossible to rule out.

I don't particularly want Zimmerman convicted myself, if just because of precedence for stand your ground laws, lack of hard evidence, and my opinion that the justice system is a farce. But I don't think this is his best defense. :/ There's a big difference between saying "this was a tragedy, it was a mistake, and when it turned violent I had to defend myself" and saying "this person DESERVED to be killed." At some point picking over the bones of a dead teenager becomes really distasteful.

I confess to being ignorant of this 'lean' stuff as well. From the sounds of it, the ingredients, it seems to be in line w/ the ' purple drank' concoction, which is a favorite for some inner city youth, as well as professional athletes. ( See JaMarcus Russell )

Point of Fact.

Firstoff, most of these ridiculous claims by the media are upon investigation all but straight out bullshit whipped up to demonize their favorite target, young people - since they have no legal rights or ability to fight back, even make their voice heard, till that "magic number", and not the resources to do so even then.
Just imagine if say, you threw these lameass shoveljobs at better protected targets, how fast the lawsuits would pile up, yes ?

Cue smartass letter going round bagging on this phenomenon.
http://nataliegoffee.blogspot.com/

Not to mention asking such loaded questions of young people who dislike you and mistrust you is just BEGGING to be trolled.

Point of interest number two.

Wine contains the same chemical as "date rape" drugs, poppyseed muffins contain opiates, and many drug tests are downright laughably unreliable to begin with, even before viewed through the veil of distortion applied by folks with an agenda.

This one being particularly egregarious since the cops know a LOT of ways to deliberately cause a false positive, and if they're testing your shampoo, they're LOOKING for one, on purpose.
Not to mention that forensic "science" is often anything but.

Of course, leaving out some pretty damn obvious media bias, there's also that the conduct of the department is suspect itself, which means a compromised investigation from the get-go, and why on earth would anyone in their right mind THEN trust that same department to investigate its own investigation ?
Nah, I don't trust a whit of it, any of it, and stand by my initial assessment, still.

It however *IS* very telling how far the so-called authorities are trying to dig, dig, dig to obtain even the most minuscule of evidence to demonize Martin, while simultaneously obfuscating even obvious red flags regarding Zimmerman - that all by itself screams bias about as loud as possible.
And frankly, for a young ethnic guy in this day and age, despite all attempts to convince us otherwise I daresay Martin was remarkably well-behaved, comparably... heaven knows MY disciplinary record practically read serial-killer-in-training.

Codeine/ opioids and promethazine are part of routine tox screens. And the tox screen only showed very low levels of THC, nothing else.

So, is that the sum of our argument, Troll? Martin must have been using purple drank, even though the active ingredients magically didn’t show up in the tox screen?

Do you know how fast codeine clears from the system? Would it appear on the tox screen even 48 hours after the last use? But we have Martin's OWN WORDS that he was a user. Plus supporting physical evidence. Zimmerman's lawyer would be insane to not bring this up at trial. Remember, that it is up to the state to prove beyond a shadow of doubt that Zimmerman's actions alone caused the shooting. Just the possibility of Martin suffering from long term effects of lean usage, with increased aggression contributing to the events could get Zimmerman acquitted.

Which, for people who have already made up their minds, does not seem to be a possibility.

It's not what Zimmerman did or did not do prior to the shooting. It is whether or not the state can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. Martin is not on trial, but his actions before and during the incident will certainly come under scrutiny.

Pretty much this... Which since it CAN'T be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, makes our amateur investigation into both Zimmerman and Martin's activities rather pointless.

I see no reason 1) to claim Martin drank this stuff, both on principle and from the "evidence," and 2) no reason to keep dragging the kid's name through the dirt.

Hacked of not they could not have gone back and posted conversations in the past.

That being said, without Martin's facebook page to varify those images are true (or finding the conversation on his friends pages) there is no way to varify them.

And why didn't the cops and DA make a serious good faith investigation early on, before the national media got involved? Sounds way too much like Rodney King out here in LA.

And promethazine? Here's the answer:

Promethazine has a half life of 12 to 15 hours. However, this is plasma half life. Promethazine is highly protein bound and distributed within tissues. Therefore, even when most of the drug is eliminated (<1%) there will still be subtle residual exchange between the tissues and plasma that can still be detected in a drug screen. (Months)

Dude - give it up. He didn't use the stuff.

As for HIS OWN WORDS --- if young men really had as much sex as they brag about, if (in my day) junior high students really smoked as much weed, if young people really got as wasted as they claim - you wouldn't recognize the world you're living in.

Do you mistake an online persona for reality, especially one of a young man trying to create a cool image? If so you are really clueless.

Did the tox report just do studies on blood and urine or was there a tissue report as well?

The point being, the defense does not have to PROVE anything. They just have to cast doubt on the state's case. This is looking more like a walk through for Zimmerman.

I read that Trayvon's GF heard him say, "Get off, get off!" just before the phone went dead.
If so, the prosecution may present it as evidence that Zimmerman touched Martin first.
It could cast doubt on his self-defence claim. Combined with his stalking of a teen who was,
at that moment, doing nothing wrong ...

Look:
Zimmerman was on the phone to 911. He hung up the phone. Then he followed Martin.
Martin was on the phone to his GF. If he then decided he'd rather fight Zimmerman, I think he
would hang up the phone first. Apparently, he did not hang up.

We can say all we want about Trayvon was a gangsta/gangsta wannabe. It's completely irrelevant.
He was doing just fine that night until Zimmerman made contact.

I've also read that juries like to convict.

The 911 recording makes it clear that Zimmerman started to follow Martin while still on the phone. Not a huge difference, but just felt this need to be corrected.

OMFG. My FIRST degree, and job, was doing this kind of testing. You are so F*ing ignorant it's not even funny. Do you know what having a reservoir in the tissue means? It means that a little seeps out into the blood and urine, over a long, long time, And so, it is detectable at trace levels in blood and urine for a long, long time. It's the same mechanism that allows THC to be detected for a long, long time, except promethazine is stored in protein, while THC is stored in fat.

Go away, please, and stop wasting everyone’s time with your banal, ignorant and irrelevant bleating.

Apparently you can lead an asshole like Troll to facts, but you can't make him think. No wonder he's a right-winger!

Kwicko, I thought you were Niki's flying monkey? Now it appears you are 1kiki's flying monkey. Are you running around on Niki?

And Kiki, you haven't done anything to show that this will not cast suspicion on Martin's action. Lack of proof is not proof. You should know that. It's right there in the leftist strategy handbook.

Leftists think that lack of proof is not proof? Hmmm... That actually makes sense.

You, on the other hand, seem to think that lack of proof IS proof. In a sense, it is - it's proof that you're a fuckin' moron (but we already knew that).
