Is there anywhere in the entire Whedonverse that lets us know that Crosses aren't the only religious symbol that makes vamps burn.

Has that ever been explained?

Has the question ever been raised as to why only the Cross seemed to affect the Vampires.

Has anyone else thought about this?

This is an excellent question, and I'm a little disappointed in myself for not considering it sooner. Could a Star of David burn vamps? Interesting.

It's well established that Joss is non-religious, if not outright atheist. Crosses and holy water are, however, essential elements to vampire mythos, and I guess they need to remain. This stems from an interview I remember with Joss in which he mentioned the crosses/holy water thing. He said they just tried to stick with stakes and beheading.

Excellent question, BTW.

The interview w/ Joss was under the heading of something like '100 questions with Joss Whedon', if you want to read it. It's funny as hell.

I remember coming across a theory somewhere which suggested that some long-ago Christian mystic came up with an anti-vampire spell which he bound to the figure of the cross, ensuring that that symbol would forever be anathema to vampires.

LOL, I guess that is why Willow was so freaked out when she had to put that cross up in her Room, like "..If my mom sees this...."

I know what that would be like, try to explain to my Jewish mother a Big @$$ cross in my room.

Of course,(now don't throw anything at me) but in Bordello of Blood when Dennis Miller was going to take off his shirt, and that Hot vamp woman got all freaked out at first, then she saw it was a Magen David(star of david) she was releived.

Being from a Multi Faith Family Crosses are all over the place here (I am Jewish, my Wife and Children are Catholic) so I always found that funny.

Just one more example of my wife having all the power...lol

Although my wife noticed that they never were big on the crucifixes in Buffy, just plain crosses, I found that curious as well, but as far as I see it, whatever gets the job done....

Back in season 1 in "Angel" after Buffy and Angel kiss at the Bronze, they draw apart and he's been burned by her cross. I swear, the burn on his chest looks like a crucifix even though her necklace was a cross. Did anyone else notice that or am I making it up in my head? I always thought that was a little odd, but kinda neat.

Packer fans welcome. All others tolerated.
