Has anybody ever wondered why after all these years Angel lost his accent, but Spike never did? Don't get me wrong, Spikes accent is so freaking sexy its not even funny, i just think its interesting that he still has it, while Angel only has his in flashbacks.

'Spect it's because James can do a passable British accent, and maintain it... but David's "Oirish" accent, even for the short flashbacks, was pretty ropey.

Sorry. I'm sure someone can come up with better, more story-orientated, reasons :))

Asside from David perhaps not being able to hold the accent as well as James, maybe it's because Angel tried to cut ties with his past and become "Americanized" to blend in, while Spike never gave his speech patterns much thought and kept them. Any other ideas?

that sounds very possible. Spike wouldn't care about it because that is how he always wanted people to think he was, flying by the seat of his pants and not caring for anything.

I can't say which show it was in except that it was one of the ones that flashed way back but William had a more upper class accent before he got vamped. Sometime later on--years later on--he affected a Cockney/lower class accent as a kind of rebellion against the milquetoast he used to be. Angel makes fun of him, I think, in the scene in China where Spike goes after the Chinese slayer. Spike has retained that accent ever since.

This is completely irrelevant to this particular discussion, but it is something I've always wondered myself. In "Becoming Part 2" Spike strangles Dru and knocks her out, but as they've mentioned so many times on the show, vampires don't breathe. Angel tries to pull the same thing on Darla when she's pregnant, but for obvious reasons it doesn't work. I assume it's just an oversight, but it's always bothered me.

I suspect part of this is David's weak Irish accent (though better than whatever the hell Kendra's was supposed to be). But I also suspect that part of it stems from the fact that Angel turned up first season, as a recurring character, not a regular. I've no idea if they always planned to keep him around, or how much of his back story they'd already written, but there's no reference to it early on. Angel, therefore, talks like David. It would have been terribly odd if he'd talked like an American first season, then suddenly had an Irish accent. (I did love, however, that in "Spin the Bottle," when they all became teenagers again, he tried to figure out where it went.)

Here's another "I wonder" moment -- at what point did Angel start lifting weights -- he's pretty well built in the flashbacks, but when we first meet him on Buffy, not so much. So did he lose muscle then gain it again?

And if vampires are dead, why does their hair keep growing? It must -- Angel's gone long to short to long to short. Unless those things from the 70's were extentions.
