I just ordered it. Has anyone read it, know if it's any good?

If you're a Faith fan (like me!), it rocks! If you're not, then you might not enjoy it quite so much.

And if you haven't read it yet, also try "Blackout"--I haven't read all the "Buffy" or "Angel" novels (probably less than half, actually), but those two stand out as definitely the best of the bunch...

Who wouldn't be a fan of Faith? Even non Buffy fans I know say they loved Faith.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

There's always people who don't like something (character, episode, season, whatever), no matter how popular. I can't believe how many people will jump up to tell you how awful Spike was, how he ruined the show(s), blah-blah-blah... (Altho, thankfully, I think the people who love him still outnumber the people who don't)

Even worse are the people who say they hate Tara. Not liking someone is fine, but it just seemed pointless to bash such a non-threatening character. I've never read a good, well-thought out reason for disliking her.

Yes,I like Faith. But that doesn't mean I'll like the book, necessarily. Have purchased about 10-15 Buffy/Angel novels, but only enjoyed about half. The only one I truly LOVED was Spike and Dru's. The worst one was the one I ironically looked forward to the most: Queen of the Slayers. The cheesy ending killed it dead for me.

I haven't read "Blackout". What is it about? Who is the author?

With "Go Ask Malice", judging by what I've read from ppl online, most seem to have enjoyed it and give it high marks... but the minority that didn't like it really didn't like it . Not knowing you personally, I have no idea which category you'll fall into. Hope you let us know afterward, tho.

"Blackout" is by Keith R.A. DeCandido (KRAD), and is about Spike and Nikki Wood in 1977 New York ("Fool for Love" and "Lies My Parents Told Me")...

Because she replaced the best buffyverse character ever, Oz? Because she was a shy, stuttering, pathetic loser to start out? Because she was the least attractive female cast member? Because she didn't die soon enough?

Faith on the other hand was a great character. Her guest stints during season 4 of Buffy and season 1 of Angel were the best episodes of those seasons. Plus she was in Orpheus probably one of the best Angel episodes overall. She did the good to evil back to good again thing. She's just a great character all around. I think she could have held her own on a new series though I just don't think the general public would care enough to watch.

I was sad to see Oz go, definitely. But calling her a loser? Hell, that used to be the Scooby credo. They were the outsiders, and they wore that badge with pride. And calling her unattractive is just low.

On the other hand, I'll agree about Faith. She was one of the best characters, and she never really got enough credit.

I'll have to second what DeepGirl said about calling Tara unattractive and using that as a reason to dislike her. It IS low, because you're not only insulting the character, you're insulting Amber Benson (one of the nicest people from Joss's shows). I'm pretty sure Joss would be offended, too.

Edit: And she wasn't a replacement for Oz. Just like Kennedy wasn't a replacement for Tara. Willow will always love Oz, even if it's no longer a romantic love.

I'll have to disagree with that... kinda (or maybe we're just arguing semantics). She was a replacement for Oz, and Kennedy was a replacement for her, in the respect that neither character probably would've existed if the previous character had stuck around. But once they were gone, there was an opening in the cast that needed to be filled, and voila.

On the other hand, holding that against Tara (and Amber) is just plain stupid. It's not as if Joss had the idea for the character of Tara, and wrote Oz out of the show because of it. Seth decided to leave because he'd become a big movie star, and good for him. Once he was gone, they came up with the idea for Tara. But she certainly didn't steal his job, fer Chrissake...

And not only is calling her unattractive uncool and uncalled for, it's also untrue. Amber's frickin' gorgeous!! You wanna go all semantic-y and argue the point of "least attractive" female on the show, then yeah, maybe she doesn't outrank Michelle or Eliza, but in a show that spent 7 years featuring some of the hottest chicks on TV, being 3 or 4 notches down that list isn't exactly something to be ashamed of--that's like saying the last guy to qualify for the Olympic team is a terrible athlete. Gimme a break with that #%&*. Personally, I'd take her over Charisma any damn day of the week...

Cuz holy Schwingy McBoing-Boing does she look fine here! Definitely starting to see why Willow would select her/Tara to be her first sapphic lover

Other than Joss, Amber might be the most all-around talented person to ever work on that show. She acts, she writes, she directs, she sings...

Oh yeah--and she also totally rocks!!

That she does. I've got "Chance", too, the movie she made herself during weekends while filming BUFFY. Also in it are James Marsters, Andy Hallett, Can't-think-of-his-first-name Ricketts--one of Joss's hat tricks, and Nick Brendon's wife. If you can get past the somewhat disturbing thoughts of "Tara" having a crush on "Lorne" and "Spike" in love with "Tara", it's a pretty good movie.

I believe I called her least attractive, not unattractive. I also believe the poster I was responding to said there were no reasons and I was listing the ones I'd heard from actual buffy fans I know. You can call reality low if you like but that doesn't make it go away nor does it make it wrong.

Now, having said that, I do find her unattractive. I have no idea what this has to do with her being a nice person or not. I know plenty of nice, cool, unattractive people. It doesn't miraculously change their appearance though. I still find them unattractive and see no reason why I should lie about it. It's not like I'm insulting a choice she made in life. It's just genetics.

Anyway this seems to have dragged the thread off topic. What about this Faith book? Is it set after the end of Buffy? If so is she working with Buffy and the other slayers or has she gone off on her own again? Seems to me she still has a lot of personal demons she should be fighting before she takes on many real ones.

So, in other words, you don't care that your comment was offensive?

"Go Ask Malice" is about Faith's history, the events that happened to her as she became a Slayer.

I bought the "Go Ask Malice" book about a month ago and left it on a shelf and forgot that I had bought it. I saw your thread and you reminded me that I have it so thanks. I'm reading it now and I love it.

I just finished the Wicked Willow trilogy and it's pretty good, but I have to admit that there were strange moments in it. I suspect that the writer lost her way at certain points but all in all, it was decent and a good read.

You're welcome for the reminder! But don't tell me what happens...still hasn't come in yet, and once it's here it'll probably be awhile before I can even get to it.

Still have approx. 50 eps. to finish on my BUFFY marathon before I get the comic. An email I was sent last week said it'll ship now on the 21st or 22nd. This is my priority!

I won't tell you what happens. I would not want to wreck it for you One day while looking for a book for the advanced study of T-cells, I stumbled across the whole BtVS and Angel section at the local book store. I had no idea that so many novels were written! I thumbed through a few of them and was delighted. It was just like having whole new episodes, so my greedy hands started snatching books from the shelves, and I was rather embarrassed as I carried an armload of novels up to the check stand. The cashier kept looking at me strange, and then the creep said "You know these are kids books right?" I told him they were for my daughter (I don't have a daughter) but I was annoyed that the creep felt he had to say something...some people always have to say the dumbest things. It's like there must be a factory out there that produces a certain type of person that rains on other people's parade. People like this annoy me, and I wish that if they can't say something nice they should just shut their trap. Oh well. Sorry for the mini-rant.

When you get the time you should also read the "Lost Slayer" It's a really good read.

I understand the rant...been there, believe me.

"Lost Slayer" was one of my favorites, too. I just forgot what it was called or I would have mentioned it before. Without giving away too much to those who haven't read it yet, it was pretty shocking, wasn't it?

Entirely pointy.

I just finished 'Go Ask Malice' and I loved it.
As soon as I closed the book I went downstairs and watched 'Faith, Hope and Trick' with new eyes. The Faith perspective. Somewhat darker.
I may just read it again, now.

I finished it last week, but I forgot to mention it here. I liked it, too, but my favorite book I think is still 'Spike & Dru'.

Select to view spoiler:

Bizarre Giles connection, huh? Also found Faith's reaction to learning Buffy's name pretty amusing.

What did you make of the portions of text that were carefully 'inked out'? I had trouble figuring out the purpose behind that, especially the name of the town where the foster family lived...

I was confused about that too. Was it Faith, or her watcher, or whoever discovered the diary in the Sunnydale pit? Why did those details need to be covered up at all?
