You must see 6 and 7.

I think I'm done hammering that in Chrisisall

I rushed from season 1 to 5 in a very short period of time. If I watch season 6 and 7 too soon, I'll have nothing to look forward to.

Going back and watching 1-5 again will allow me to catch the things I missed the 1st time around.

Seriously. I was very angry at her for the way she treated Riley. ANd then she got all whiny and it just ticked me off. Then of course she USED Spike.

So I was NOT a happy camper for awhile!

Nobody liked Reilly more than me (no closet jokes, please), but Buffy was in pain, FMF! You think being an active slayer leaves much room for day-to-day common sense? She's lucky she could keep her friends!
And later she got dead. That ruins your whole year, know what I mean?

Originally, it's what made me sell all the Buffy I still owned but season 3, that's how much I hated Reilly's leaving.
But I think on some of my friends and their choices, and Buffy's no different. Some broken piece inside her compelled her to make a self-destructive choice, who are we to judge?

BSG Season 2 was on Sky One over here which I don't get to watch so often. I caught it at midnight on a couple of Saturdays. This was one of the last ones I saw, and it was quite confusing where the extra battlestar came from, why Apollo was running it, why people were stupid enough to vote for Baltar and why the Cylons weren't killing everyone.

Oh and where the hell did that planet come from?

Luckilly I signed up to Shoutcast TV, which has a 24 hour BSG channel, all the episodes from the mini-series to the end of the second season back to back so I've managed to see it now.

Oh and I guess you know what's up with Dawn now. Needless to say she was the key component of the season.

I agree with Chrisisall:

You must see 6 and 7. You have no idea how complex and lovely this show is until you've seen the whole thing. You will then find yourself watching it again and again.
Buffy is a bit whiny and I am inclined to agree with those who think Buffy screwed up with the way she treated Riley, but he was a bit of a child himself. Letting vampires suck him.. GYeeshhh... (channelling Xander here)

I have watched this series waaaaaaaaaay too many times...

Going back and watching 1-5 again will allow me to catch the things I missed the 1st time around.

------------

You will love OMWF... It's a very different buffy. I find myself singing and singing and singing...

I do love Hush and Earshot... Hush is the scariest ep as far as I'm concerned, but I love to talk...

Anyway, until you see Seeing Red and Grave, you have a large hole missing in your life!! And you cannot miss Chosen. or potential... awww, just watch the next two seasons...

"Ow.. mommie... this mortal wound is all itchy..."

Regarding not caring if certain relatives die. I can relate. And I'm full of emotion and caring. but I had one particular grandmother who was just evil. Now, losing anyone else, that would suck. but when she died, I didn't even consider attending her funeral. Only good thing she did was to have my father and his siblings.

Riley was a swell guy, and very caring (plus, bonus points for being human), and after season 5, I sold it all- good riddence to bad Buffy!

Then I missed it, and got the Chosen Collection.
Best purchase I made since Dark Angel.
(I don't include FF because it's not a choice, it's a lifestyle )

I don't mind. I accidently hi-jack other people's threads all the time.

The only thing that annoyed me about Buffy in the earlier seasons was how mean she was to Spike. She would always walk into that crypt he lives in without knocking, and the first thing she would do was go straight to him, and punch him in the face, and Spike always just let her do it. I found that very annoying.

Buffy's a hero, and she's saved the world many times over, so she can be whiny, bitchy, or depressed if she wants too. I love her just the same. Joss did a good job creating her. Speaking of Joss, you know, this guy creates characters that really stick to you...its sort of amazing because I know no other writer/director that does that.

I also love Willow. Out of all the characters in BTVS, Willow was the character that was completly different at the end of season 5. She had nothing in common with the Willow from season 1.

Back to the misery of paper work.

Buffy's feeing of loss and helplessness didnt really hit me until she uttered the word "Mommy?" as the shadow of Joyce passed the window and was heading for the front door.

I was soooo gladddd that Dawn tore up that paper that had her mother's name on it before Buffy could open the door!!!!! There was something really creepy about that whole scene.

I'm glad that I stopped at season 5 of Buffy. You guys are such a pushy lot. You got to watch stuff, and then wait a bit and let it sink in before you move into the next season. My rushing from season 1 to 5 so fast at the urging of the now evil Chrisisall made me want to go back to season 1 of Buffy. Creeps. Kneecap kicking all around for that.

It is important to have things to look forward to, and I am determined to save seasons 6 through 7 of Buffy for October, which is also just in time for when the 3rd season of Battlestar Galactica ramps up. Also around that time I should start on season 3 of Angel. if I time it all right, I should be quite busy, working through all these seasons and episode of mentioned shows that should carry me through to the next year. And when all that is done I will move on and start watching Dark Angel. Good plan if you ask me.

I'm trying to figure out why I like BTVS so much and I figured out why. Buffy Is Sandra Barger. Buffy is Supergirl. Buffy is Jamie Summers. Same noble characters, but comes with different names. History repeats itself. This crap is seriously starting to get to me.

So were many of us!! I was actually mad at Xander for talking Buffy into chasing after him. Riley had too many hang-ups and jealousies about Buffy's past.

Favorite Riley scene:
Riley~ "I'm not leaving this room. I mean it"
Buffy and Angel leave room. Angel smirks.

Willow and her snot-nosed band of Scoobies brought Buffy back from heaven where she was happy, content, and loved, and finshed with her mission on earth. Buffy should have killed the whole lot of them when she got back.

I guess I lied and decided to watch season 6 after all. I'm mad as hell.

There is an episode - cant remeber which one, as its a while since I watched them all, where Willow an dbuffy are walking out of class at college talking about the hunchback of Notre Dame, about how he isnt really good, he has no morals of his own, he just does what he thinks the heroine wants... They are actually having a philosophical discussion, a fact which Willow is thrilled about. Anyway, when things started happening with spike a few episode further on, I realised that was a direct reference to spike. Yes, he is trying to do the right thing, but not because he thinks he should, but because he knows Buffy will think he should. There is a difference. Like the episode where they are helping the injured at the bronze, and he points out he hasnt tried to feed off the injured/dead. Buffy asks if he thinks that deserves a medal - he doesnt get why she doesnt understand that he thinks it should.

Later, well, thats another point entirely, but no spoilers here (I dont know how to do the spoiler thingy)

Quote:

Spike’s character was really starting to grow, but I was put-off by how the Scooby gang treated him especially Xander. Xander’s behavior towards Spike really started to get on my nerves. It was clear that Spike was trying to make amendments through action helping them in their little adventures, but they wasn’t giving him a chance at all. Towards the end I really liked and respected Spike. He put up with torture, and didn’t tell Glory anything about the Key, and got his ass beat up on in the process. He did it because he really respected and loved the Slayer.

I was glad in the way that one experinces when a toothach goes away. I guess my mother had laid there all night dead and the blood had pooled to the center of her body. She was face down. I looked an touched with curiousity. It was weird but I called the ambulance and then went back to watching the Original BSG since it was airing that day. I guess my older brother and sisters freaked out a little, but that was not my problem. I never loved my mother. She gave me no reason too.

Buffy's relationship with her mother, that watcher and her friends is an alien concept for me. I cannot even begin to understand how people form relationships like that. My relationships with people were always strange. Never like what I see on Buffy. No group could ever be that tight, so I must chock it up to being a fantasy made-for-tv sort of thing.

Out of all my friends and relatives that died from natural causes or suicide, I only got upset once about a death, and that death was a guy friend I knew and talked with from time to time. His name was Bruce and he died in 2004. I think I shed a tear or two for him, and then nothing. I must be like a machine or something. Oh well, next DVD.

River

I sometimes come back to the posts that I write and read them. This one in particular bothers me. What kind of daughter reacts to her mother's death this way? I'm a strange one but I know that I'm not alone.
I guess we are supposed to honor our parents no matter what they do to us. Call me weak, but I guess I couldnt, and never really said that out loud before. She was mean, and no one would give me information. I reacted the way I did to her death because she never taught me to love her. You can't get something from nothing.

I think I shall carry this misplaced guilt in my heart for the rest of my life, but you know something? I think I had every right to be bitter or souless. If someone slaps you around and was cruel to you mentally, physically and emotionally, when they die, its sort of hard to think fuzzy good thoughts about them. I'm so going to hell for this, but I can't help it. She was well-meaning but a very bad human being and because of her I've become very rich, but completely empty and unable to form relationships. I blame her for that and I blame myself for taking it all so seriously.

On one hand I'm a bright, evil person. On another hand I'm so beyond clueless and don't have a bucket to piss in.

River

P.S. How does one make a friend? I have lost that ability. What is a friend? Why do people need friends?

No, you are right. She did use Spike. I take my kicking you in the kneecaps back. Spike turned out to be THE hero in the end. Spike's character was better than Angel could ever be. Towards the end I really admired Spike. Spike's sacrifice atoned for all the evil he did. Spike saved the world along with Buffy and all the other people who fought.

Throughout the series there were little things, little indicators of Spike's character. Spike was a true romantic. He liked soap operas, he tried to do the right thing by Buffy through action not just words, and he never backed down from loving Buffy no matter what nasty thing she put him through. Spike was the same guy that he originally was before he got changed into a vampire. A nerdy, romantic guy who only wanted the love of a woman he adored.

My opinion of Spike change radically when an episode flashback showed him trying to express his love for some woman and she said that "he was beneath her." And later on Buffy said that he was beneath her, and Spikes first reaction to that was tears and humiliation just like he experienced years ago before he became a vampire.

Spike went on a journey, and that journey made him a champion. Spike became a man before he died. Spike is one of Joss’s best characters I think.

You have every right to feel the way you feel and to have reacted the way you did.

Yes one should honor ones parents. But, it is possible for parents to lose the right to that honor and respect.
