I own:
Firefly (obviously)
Buffy s1, 3, & 6 (I really want 2 and 5)
Angel s1 & 3
Dark Angel s1&2
And there's some more I really can't remember now. I might get the new Doctor Who when it comes out. See how the rest of the series shapes up.

...and we will call it...this land...

I think he meant in Canadian dollars,
but Cybersnark have you checked lately?
The US dollar has weakened a lot so $35/US is now about $43/Canadian...
and you might get one thru Amazon's 'new & used' section (they often have deals):

Farscape is somewhere on the list as well.

Maybe have to throw some dice hehe

Let's see if I can remember what's laying around the house...

Firefly - Natch.
Buffy S1 - Thanks to the recent "cheap at Wally World" thread!
Twin Peaks S1 - Paramount needs to hurry the hell up and give this a proper release.
Fishing With John - I love the Criterion Collection.
Rocky & Bullwinkle S1 - That trick never works!
The Awful Truth S1 - Need to pick up S2 one of these days...
Futurama S1-3 - ...but I need S4 of Futurama first.

Then there's a pile of British television:

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smileys People - Alec Guinness is a god.
The Sandbaggers S1-3 - Roy Marsden is less of a god, but still great. I love bleak cold war spy shows.
Black Adder (The Whole Shebang) - I hear Rowen Atkinson is also worshiped in some circles.
A Very British Coup - Ray McAnally, we miss you.
Ultraviolet - Just finished re-watching this series and am still blown away.
Doctor Who - I've got a couple of Tom Baker adventures and am itching for more.

I've also got a whole helluva lot of them there Japanese cartoons. Cowboy Bebop, Maison Ikkoku, Infinite Ryvius, RahXephon, Black Heaven, Macross, and god knows what else. At the moment I'm particularly keen on Satoshi Kon's Paranoia Agent.

I'm probably forgetting something, but off the top of my head that's it for TV and DVD. If we get into laserdisc, VHS, and (ahem) downloaded shows, things get just plain silly. In the future, The Prisoner, MI-5/Spooks, Lost, and Wonderfalls are at the top of my shopping list, with Samurai Champloo, Genshiken, and Gankutsuoh (a particularly trippy adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo) on the anime front.

Man, here I lurk for ages and am dragged out of the corners in order to list a bunch of TV shows. I'm sorry, I'm weak and just couldn't help but share.

My tv on dvd:

Firefly (you knew that one)
Star Trek:TOS (S1-3)
Gargoyles (S1)
24 - Day One
Wonderfalls
Fawlty Towers
Kung Fu (S1 - waiting for 3rd)
Lonesome Dove:TOS (Eric McCormack!)
Lonesome Dove:The Outlaw Years (Eric McCormack!)
Dark Angel (S1)

Lusting after the incredibly expensive:
Farscape / DS9 / Babylon 5 and the non-existent "Highlander, The Methos Collection".

And to buy soon:
Angel S5 (maybe just netflix it)
Dark Angel S2
The 4400 - it's cheap but I taped them all...

This is nit-picking, but weren't we talking commercial dvds? Not that I wouldn't love to have all 4 seasons of Blakes 7 on dvd in NTSC to replace my VHS tapes. (I have also been collecting the new Who on dvd, btw. And I have Queen of Swords in low-res vcd on disk but would love good quality dvds...)

Is it a show-off thread? I looked at each list as kind of an outward indication of the poster's personality, seeing where we differ and where we overlap. For instance, I was surprised that I wasn't the only Gargoyles fan.

For some of us, forking over cash does mean that we think the show is important. I have boxes of tapes (MST3K, A-Team, Time Trax, Beauty and the Beast, Highlander, some Equalizer) but not all of them matter enough to me to purchase in box sets.

And yeah, I have divx copies of lots of newer shows - Gilmore Girls, Law and Order, etc. too but the only new show I want on dvd is House.

So what do you have on dvd that you would actually pay for? :-)

An intelligent, tightly-scripted show with engrossing characters and emotional impact, that wouldn't even have a DVD release if it wasn't for the fans, many of whom have personal stories about the show's impact on their lives. If anything I'm surprised there aren't more of us on this particular board.

It may just be 'cause the Gargoyles DVDs weren't really hyped (and about ten years late ).

Here's hoping it's doing well enough to at least get the other seasons out --I want a full Gargoyles box set on my shelf.

BEOWULF

First thing I ever bought on DVD was Firefly.

The only other thing I own is Wonderfalls. It was a gift, but I woulda bought it if it hadn't been.

I suspect the next thing I get on DVD will be Serenity (I'm hoping a Director's cut/extended version is at least announced at the same time as the initial release. I really only need one and that'd be the one I'd want.).

I own a few movies on VHS - 100% of them were gifts. The thought was appreciated, but I've never been one for owning movies/TV shows. If I didn't already have it on VHS, I might get a DVD copy of 2001 just because it rocks that hard.

If money wasn't an issue, I'd own the entire "Created by Joss" collection, but 12 seasons of Buffy/Angel would ring up quite a bill.

Firefly (natch! And bought without having seen a single second)
Buffy (1-7)- has also owned 1-4 (I think) on video, long since sold for ridiculous low amount.
Angel (1-5) - mostly R1 as soooo much cheaper even though the packaging is too big!
Alias 1-3
Friends 1-10 (don't get me started on how much that all cost me and how cheap I could buy it now)
Arrested Development
Tru Calling (again, hadn't seen any of it)
Dead Like Me (ditto - yes I need cable!)
Roswell 1-3
Twin Peaks
Battle of the Planets (Jason - my childhood crush!)
West Wing 1-4 (R1 coz of extras but wish they'd catch up with R2)

I saw a fan music vid on a compilation tape, which is how I learned about it. I bought the video tape of the first episodes and was hooked. I had to find a friend with a different cable company to tape for me, my system didn't get toon disney and this was way before bittorrent.

I'm ashamed to say it didn't change my life (unless you count sleuthing for sources) but great stories, literary references galore and the voices of former TNG cast members - what's not to like? Although I still get weird looks when I bring it up - evidently anime is okay but Gargoyles isn't. Their loss... a great story is a great story.

Isn't the guy who voiced Goliath doing voice-overs for TNT at Law and Order time or am I imagining it?

"Twin Peaks * (will season 2 EVER come out on dvd?!)"

My understanding is that the rights have reverted back to Paramount as of this year - good job on sitting on the license, Artisan - so at this point it's in their court.

Here's the latest update from the Lynch fanatics at Dugpa.com:

Latest Rumor for Release Dates of Twin Peaks Season 2 in Europe Region 2
Leonard Krantz sends me an email today stating that Paramount will be releasing the Twin Peaks Season 2 DVD set split up into two box sets containing 4 discs each. The first to be released on September 22nd, 2005, and the second half on October 20th 2005. The set is supposed to contain new video transfers, 5.1 newly re-mastered audio, and extras to be announced. I'm looking into this rumor, but so far, it sounds pretty dead on. Eventually a US release will follow."

Again, this is rumor, but it looks like things are finally happening again on the Twin Peaks DVD front. Looks like Europe will get a release this fall, with the US to follow suit sometime before the heat death of the universe. Maybe. If we're really lucky.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

I'll save you some anguish -- none of them are as good as I remembered, with the exception of the final episode of Sonny Steelgrave, which is one of the best hours ever to hit TV. Naturally, in order to best appreciate it, you need to watch the whole Sonny Steelgrave arc.

On the other hand, if it helps the value equation, Nightstalker is a double-sided DVD, with Night Strangler on the flip side. I seem to recall it was originally broadcast as "the Gaslight Goul", but the "Night Strangler" titles were obviously done @least a quarter century ago. This double-sided DVD is a relatively recent release; there was an earlier edition, now out of print, with just Night Stalker.

YT, I heard they replaced some music in Wiseguy, I was wondering- do you still get to hear 'Knights in White Satin' while Vinny and Sonny are alone in the theatre after their fight (just before the climax)?

And I agree, one of the best hours. At least I have it on tape.

They replaced almost all the music. I don't specifically remember what's in that scene, but it works on the DVD. I didn't actually notice it 'til the third set, when Vinnie is playing pickup baseball, originally to the tune I'm listening to right now; they replaced it with something generic, & having nothing to do with what's on screen.

Now we see the level of my obsession. I just assumed it stood for Dark Angel.
That's why I like Firefly; it reassures me that there are other and sometimes better things out there besides Dark Angel.
