I saw a couple minutes of Andromeda the other night and I wondered if anyone would recommend the first season DVD set?

I can gladly recommend season 1 and 2 of Andromeda but once Robert H Wolfe was gone and Robert Engel brought the series went way down hill imho.

Another board to ask questions about Andromeda would be www.exisle.net- but pls keep in mind many people there are still very unhappy with what happened to the series after RHW departed.

First season, yes (low budget, but some brilliant concepts, carried off reasonably well).

Second season, less so (still some good points, but mostly "action porn").

Third season, your call (firmly mediocre).

Fourth season, avoid (the suckage far outweighs any good qualities).

Fifth season (currently airing in the US, not available in Canada), avoid at all costs. From what I've heard, even the writers don't seem to know what's going on from scene to scene.

Thanks for the info - that's pretty close to what other people are telling me. I'll check out the site you mentioned shortly (I'll mind my p's and q's).

Thanks for the info. That's an ever increasing tale of woa for sure. Sounds like the end came around season 4 - the season of much heavy suckage.

I bought the first 2 dvds from the first season, good quality. But the seasons end with cliffhanges so you always need the next season- and after season 4 I reckoned it wasn't worth it.
I was a fan, but they screwed it up way worse than they messed up Dark Angel (THAT series I had to own).
Hope it helps.

Well, season four's finale had an alternate ending 'cause they didn't know if they'd get renewed.

Canada got the ending where everybody died (space station blew up) after Dylan magically saved his own ass.

The US apparently got the ending where part of the Arcology station made it into Slipstream (an obvious "out" to bring back the characters).

I'm guessing both endings will be on the DVD.

One of the main problems of S5 is that, despite the show being called Andromeda, the character/ship Andromeda isn't actually in it. It's the Dylan Hunt Show.

S5 all takes place in some kinda alternate universe/fantasy world, where all the characters have been retconned, any deaths from the past four years are cancelled out (they can bring back old guest stars), and where nothing has any real connection to the previous seasons/episodes/scenes.

I wondered how they were going to get out of that. Actually it was more of a 'huh? what the hell just happened?' But then, it was the only episode I saw of that season, so for all I knew it may have made sense (sounds like it didn't though).

And that's different from before, how? I guess it would have been difficult to explain a pregnant avatar though.

But yeah, I agree with everyone else - seasons 1 and 2 were alright.

Agreed with most thought, although I had to give up on the show mid season 3. It was suffering too much from Tribune-syndrome. That is, it's a show by Tribune Entertainment (they may not be the culprit, but they're the name I most associate with the problem because of their placement on the end credits). Much like Earth Final Conflict, which had a very good first year, and then each additional year got dramatically worse as execs continued to tinker with it until S5 completely sucked and really had no relationship to the previous series (it became Renee Palmer, the Space Vampire Slayer), and was mind-numbingly dumb at times.

Andromeda season one and early season two were a bit rough, but they showed definite potential, but as the show got worse and worse I had to give up, I couldn't bear watching it happen to another show I liked.

I think that was the worst part of Andromeda. It had so much potential in the beginning... and it just got wasted. Not that it was every going to be on the level of, say Firefly, but it had the potential to be decent sci-fi (and it was for a bit).

And now we get to live with the repeats forever.

same here as everyone else watch the first 2 seasons and stop with the second to last ep of season 2. it's a good show in the beginning but there is nothing worth watching once you come to the seoson opening for season 3. since the last ep of season 2 is a not so very interesting cliffhanger just stop befor that and be happy.

Seems nearly unanimous: season 1 and 2 good and pretty good, then the bottom drops out. Think I'll take chance on season 1 - thx again!
