JADEHAND

Sorry I couldn't locate the old thread in which several people here were sharing their thoughts on the show 'Lost'. I had a rather strange idea hit me the other day reguarding the show, and wanted to see what sort of reaction it got.
We've all heard the idea that they are in some sort of purgatory, but the writers have said that that is not the case. Anyway, not sure where this thought came from, but I had the idea that maybe they are all actually in a hospital somewhere in comas and having some sort of group dream. Might explain the kid 'creating' the polar bears. Also the guy trying to take the pregnant girl. Maybe he was a doctor taking her for further test relating to her pregnancy, but was seen by the others as an invader. The pilot in the pilot episode that got ripped out of the cockpit? well maybe he just died or maybe he came out of his coma and thus left the island.

Ok I'm completely off my nut.

Interesting theory! It would also explain why Locke can now walk and why Jack was seeing his father all over. Oooh, this is exciting stuff!

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

Sounds rather Jacobs Ladder-ish or, dare I say it....like Pamela Ewing's dream sequence season from Dallas.Make of that comment what you will, but I'm just enjoying each episode as they come. Good stuff!

Well, they have to be in supernatural comas because they can all see each other and live the same story.
And, I think they did a story like this on Buffy too. ("Normal Again" from season 6)
Plus, in a coma you have a certain dream-like quality wich doesn't seem to apply here.
But, who knows, anything can happen on this show...

I was thinking more on this, and the whole french woman and the others that used to be with her but are now gone. Maybe some other group had something similar happen and everyone but her got better. She sees this as them getting killed,"It killed them all." thus leaving her bat shit crazy.

I think the idea came to me from the whole thing with castaways hearing the whisphering when they were alone. Like if they weren't engaged in the thoughts of the others they could hear this whispering. I guess in the group mind coma theory these are the voices of the doctors studying them or their visitors??

I guess even if they are really on the island then these are likely the voices of people watching them.

Don't do it, man! Horrible things will happen.

Anyway, my current silly theory:

The island is the prison of an incomprehensibly alien and powerful Lovecraftian force. It can't leave the island, but it can manifest things like the 'monster' there, and influence the outside world beyond the island in ways that seem random to everyone else... the numbers are actually powerful numbers that bring bad luck and are somehow wrapped up in the binding/unbinding of the creature, and can drive people insane. It's used its powers to draw the castaways (both groups) here, and manipulating them into freeing it.

Yeah, I know, probably not it, but hey, I enjoy the theory anyway for the time being.

I'm not too hip to dropping theories cuz I like the mystery. But wanna twist your brain. Check oout all the times those numbers pop up.in very unexpected places. The best way to fin em is by the transcripts.

EMBERS

so last night, with the cursed lotto winnings
based on the secret numbers from the island...

pretty interesting, and intreging

it is one wacky island.

I just hope we get to see more of the French woman,
I always liked her (on Babylon5)

PINGJING

I don't think your theory is too far off, Jadehand. Insanity seems to have an important role on this island. French Chick is crazy, Hurley was/is crazy, Said and Sawyer are hearing voices...but they're maybe the ones closest to the truth. In comparison to the insane, sane people live such superficial lives.

How wacky is it that Hurley owns the box company Locke worked at? "A box company?" -"Yeah, they make boxes." That was hilarious.

Eeep! I completely missed that connection!

One of the interesting things about the series is how connected everyone is.

RKLENSETH

We should also note the married black woman's (can't remember her name) comments to Jack about the others not being dead.

I think it is safe to say that Locke knows what is happening or at least has a better clue than the others.

But to trounce the coma theory, we must remember that the numbers led the French woman and her people to the island because it was being broadcast on the radio tower that she mentions in the last episode. The same numbers that the navy men heard and got bad luck from using them and the same numbers that Hurley used (after meeting one of the navy men in the mental hospital repeating over and over again). The numbers also led Hurley to Australia which eventally led him to get on the plane.

And what about the whole Claire and her unborn baby. Remember the tarot card guy telling her to give up the baby and then later not give up the baby which led to her getting onto the plane. And the guy that wasn't on the plane coming after her of all the people on the island.

Right now, I think the numbers and the baby have a big part in the mystery. I'm sure we already have the answers, we just haven't realized we've seen them yet. Watch some of the earlier episodes and you'll notice things you thought were insignificant. Like the numbers which show up before the last episode but we didn't realize they meant anything.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.
