So considering that Anchor Bay has been kind enough to release one of my all time favorite shows, The Greatest American Hero, to DVD today with the next two seasons following in the short coming months (granted with some music changes but still it is finally available to the mass public) ... I wondered if there are any other fellow browncoat fans for this show?

From my experience it seems anyone who would know this show would probably have to be around my age or older (I'm fast approaching 28) as I think I was one of the youngest viewers who saw it on ABC back in 1981 who still remembers it. I only say this because I know it hasn't been syndicated much since then. Yes I know it was on FX around '95 or '96 but not many people had the channel then. I was fortunate to see the show again unedited through a local run here in L.A. about 4 years ago. Those VHS tapes will stay permanently on my shelf now thanks to the music alterations.... but I think for the interviews and picture quality alone these are worth picking up.

Anyway just wanted to see if anyone else out there had some fond GAH memories.

On a side note I was toying with a GAH/FF crossover fanfic but it would require breaking a FF rule and acknowledging some dodgy canon from GAH I don't particularly like (from Vanity Says the Preacher for those who are in the know....) but that siad it could be a fun idea.

OMG LOL. I used to watch GAH when I was a kid. It ranked right up there with Buck Rogers and Shazzam hehehe.

I wonder if Buck Rogers will ever be remade.

Sweet- nice to meet fellow fans!

I know Buck was in development to be remade as a feature film a couple years back at err...shoot I want to say Paramount. But who knows what happened to it in development?

I know that unless these DVD sales go through the roof, Disney/Touchstone's GAH feaure adaption will never happen. Although if they go with the Adam Sandler or Will Smith versions, I think it's best to let sleeping dogs lie....

Loved that show, I always got a kick out of him trying to fly.
That reminded me of another show during that time that I loved. Anyone remember 'Voyagers!'?

I wish I could post a pic- but yes I do. Seen the episodes way too recently plus I had a GAh suit made up for Halloween a few years ago and spent far too long figuring out the measurements!

I know that it was based on a pair of scissors the designers at Jean-Pierre Dorlac (sp?) had at the time. And a lot of fans have said it's coincidentally the chinese symbol for "Center" or "Middle" and if you read Ralph as the middle man between the Green guys and Mankind then it kinda works.

Count me in. I watched it religiously. We only had the 7 channels (no cable available where we built our house, 'way back when) - the Big Three Utah affiliates, plus a couple from Albuquerque, and then two PBS stations. Which weren't so bad, back then, what with being our only access to Britcoms, up to and including the Hitchhikers series, as well as Red Dwarf.

I also dated a guy, when I was living in LA, who was actually a bud of Bill Katt's (who is the son of Barbara Hale, who played Della in the Perry Mason series) - I think they'd gone to high school or college together, or something. Of course, the same boyfriend had also hung out with Lindsay Buckingham during his days in Venice Beach. Woo-hoo, two degrees of separation and all that. (It's not that I'm that old, it's that my boyfriend was.)

Buck Rogers was my all-time, high school, teenage fangirl, favourite show. When it got pre-empted for some Reagan speech or other, it made me steaming mad. I remember that because it made me so upset, I ranted about it in my diary. Heh.

That the one with the time travelers using the "OMNI" device? If so, I loved that show as a kid.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Watched it every week like clockwork. Got a love a would be superhero who neglects to get the instruction manual for his alien super suit!

If I remember right, it came on every Wednesday night on ABC at 8pm.

I didn't know it was being released on DVD. May have to scope a copy.

Being at a REALLY young age, I managed to miss a few things like Voyagers and Tales of the Gold Monkey... things I had to discover from older fans or my brothers years later after they went off the air.

But the greatest American Hero was staple viewing for me. And yep! Anchor Bay who have been putting out Hunter, 21 Jump Street and Wiseguy (other Cannell shows) have committed to putting all three seaosn of GAH out this year- the first season arrived yesterday and I have to say the booklet and box design are pretty cool.

If you're a die-hard like me, you'll be dissappointed to know there's no bloopers or vintage trailers/promos, deleted scenes and such (and Cannell has these... I guess it cost too much to put them on) and the biggest gripe is a lot of the original music (Joey Scarbuery cover versions of songs like Rocket Man, My heroes Have Always been Cowboys etc.) have all been omitted due to new licensing fees and replaced with generic music. It ha shelped keep the cost of the box down to an attractive 20 bucks but it's still stings a bit.

But the episodes are uncut otherwise and we do get 75 minutes of new interviews so enjoy!
